Attitude6
Complaining never improves a situation. However, a positive attitude coupled with possible solutions to the problematic issues can improve our situations and soul.
ActionsWhat we do each day impacts the lives of your colleagues,
students, parents and community members, either positively or negatively. Aim for the positive at all times.
AccountabilityMeeting deadlines, making phone calls, being on duty post
and following procedures prescribed by the school and district administration, the state and federal authorities alleviates all questions about our actions each day and ensures we are in compliance and meeting the needs of
our students.
AppearanceHow we look will determine the reaction your students, parents and visitors have towards you. We are the only personal role model many of our students see each day
and we want to model the appearance we want our students to have.
AchievementOur daily objective is raising student achievement. We will
do all we can do to ensure students succeed. We are headed in a greater direction, where instructional rigor will
be our aim. Toward the stars we will soar.

2011-2012 CAFETERIA PROCEDURES For the 2011-2012 school year we will run a staggered lunch schedule. Classes will come to the cafeteria in three minute intervals. TEACHERS ARE EXPECTED TO BRING THEIR STUDENTS TO LUNCH ON TIME AND IN A STRAIGHT LINE IN SILENCE.
Teachers escort students to the cafeteria. Please use the HALL CLOCKS to ensure all students report at the designated time. Each teacher is to walk his or her class down to the cafeteria in a straight quiet line. Do not stop at the restroom on the way to the cafeteria. WE ARE ON A STRICT TIME LIMIT. This should occur before it is time for them to go to lunch. This seriously causes a backup in the line. At the end of lunch, teachers are to report to the cafeteria at the time indicated to retrieve their students. If you drop your students off late, it is expected that you report at your assigned time to pick up your students.

TRANSITION PROCEDURES
20
During the 2011-12 school year, A. Maceo Walker Middle School will utilize a no-bell schedule during the school day. The bell will ring twice – once in the morning @ 8:30 signaling the start of homeroom and again at 3:15 signaling the end of the school day. Therefore, it is imperative that all teachers assist in facilitating a smooth transition.
Class change will occur in the following manner. First of all, teachers should synchronize their watches to match the bell clock in the main office; thus, ensuring all clocks read the same time.
The Teams will move in this manner. Classes are to remain seated until it is time for them to make their move into their next class. ONLY ONE CLASS SHOULD BE LINED UP IN THE HALL!!!!! After the designated teacher has his or her students lined up in the hall, team of teachers should direct the transition as follows: The sequences hold true for every period (excluding exploratory):
TRANSITION SHOULD LAST NO MORE THAN FOUR MINUTES.
Wallace class will line up to the right of her classroom door. Then Mallory’s class will move to Wallace, then Bentley to Mallory, then Franklin to Bentley, then Wallace to Franklin.
Crenshaw’s ’s class will line up next to her door facing the Science lab. Then Sanders’s class will move to Crenshaw, then Huntley to Sanders, then Cameron to Huntley, then Smith to Cameron; then Crenshaw’s class will move to Smith.
McFarland’s Class will line up in front of the lockers next to the Stanford Math lab. Then Ross’ class will move to MacFarland, then Rankin to Ross, and then Lewis to Rankin, then Ford to Lewis then McFarland’s class will move into Ford’s room.
Williams’s class will line up across hall from her door. Then Johnson’s class will move to Williams, then Jones to Johnson, then Vaughns to Jones, and then, then Williams class will move into Vaughns’ room.
Thorns’ class will line up in the hall next to his door, facing the science lab. Then Hunter’s class will move to Thorns, and then McDermott to Hunter, then Bartha to McDermott, then Brodnax to Bartha, then Thorns’ class will move into Brodnax’s room.
When it is time for a team to go to Exploratory, it is the Core teachers responsibility to walk the students to their exploratory class. Teams should determine which students attend a specific exploratory class and take only one group of students to a specified exploratory class. and pick them up from the same exploratory class. Exploratory teachers will return students to the team’s wing at the end of the exploratory period. All teachers should be STANDING at their doors waiting for their students to return from exploratory. Because exploratory teachers are asked to
21

*( based on BOE Policy 6.313)**document evidence of all conferences using attached forms
To: All TeachersRe: Disciplinary Procedures
Please remember to use disciplinary referral form in accordance with MCS Policy. As you will remember, a referral to the office is step seven of A. Maceo Walker's 7-Step Progressive Discipline Plan (except in level 5 offences/serious student misconduct). Every effort must be made to correct student misconduct prior to an office referral. All attempts at correcting student misconduct should be documented. Please use the forms in the faculty handbook to document phone calls, conferences with parents and the development and implementation of Behavior Intervention Plans. The Behavior Intervention Plan should be developed with the student and parent, implemented and monitored. Please attach documentation of calls, conferences and BIP’s to the disciplinary referral form, when a referral form is warranted.
Additionally, when a disciplinary referral form is necessary, please be sure to complete the following:
student's first and last name, date time grade school name referring teacher
room number student status incident & level of severity location of the misconduct specific incident details
describing the behavior
infraction which occurred on that date
others involved, and progressive actions taken by
the teacher before the office referral.
33
Referrals should only be placed in Mrs. McBride's or Mr. Brittenum's mailboxes in the main office. The referral should be completed accurately. Only one student should be written up on a single disciplinary referral form (there should not be three students written up on one form). If student misconduct happens prior to your planning time, the referral should be submitted during your planning time. If the student misconduct occurs after your planning time, the referral should be submitted by the end of the school day. When serious incidents occur and administrators are unavailable, the guidance counselors can help address discipline issues and escort these students to the office. It is important that all serious incidents (physical accidents/injuries, fights, sexual harassment, and other level five offenses) be reported immediately.
In conclusion, please refer to the student code of conduct, MCS policy, and the A. Maceo Walker teacher handbook when determining when a disciplinary referral is warranted. As student achievement is negatively impacted when students are absent from school, we want to make sure we create an atmosphere that prevents problematic behavior and encourages compliance to behavioral expectations.
Thanks in advance for your adherence and cooperation. We look forward to another successful year.
Respectfully,
TSM & TB
