    CHAPTER 1

The hall was crowded with people, closed and dazzling. She could see almost everyone fromthe position she was standing: those wearing the same attire she did were sitting in front of hersquare-shaped divided into two groups by the center aisle, there were about 80 of them. The

people forming U around them wearing various attires, mostly formal could also be seen clearly, some faces she recognized, and some she didnt.Lizzie Hart stepped forward to reach the microphone. Her eyes were hurt a bit when some

lights were directed to her. After her eyes adjusted, she started her speech right away. At firstshe was happy, proud and unruffled, but as she was in the middle part, she felt sadness deepdown. Somewhere in her heart she doesnt want her speech to finish, not yet, she wanted timeto stop, if not, move slowly, which was obviously impossible.

There is no reason to be sad, she said facing the people in front of her Always rememberthat only through parting people can meet again. Dont stop dreaming. Let us all fly higher andmeet at the top!

The students applauded formally as Lizzie went down the stage back to her designated seatafter she delivered her valedictory address. Yes, she ranked 1st in the class. But it was nosurprise; almost everyone had expected it from her. She had always been an achiever eversince she was a kid. People say she inherited her brain from her father, Mr. Engineer, whileothers believed its from Mrs. Doctor.

The flow of the ceremony was as smooth as feathers and as calm as the lake. Everythingwent as what they adept like a computer programmed accurately, but not after the schoolpresident delivered his closing remarks and the high school graduation ceremony was nearingits end. Instead of forming a line and head to the stage, the students went around huggingtheir friends, weeping like the world will end the same time with the ceremony. Their faces

could hardly be recognized; their lips curling in such bizarre manners, make-ups all ruinedcausing their faces to have atypical colors and worse, most of the ladies had their mascarawiped down by their tears drawing black lines: thick and thin, to several directions on theirfaces. Tied by several events, their batch was especially close. It appeared more of a Halloweenparty than that of a graduation ceremony.

Bye Lizzie. A girl said, hugging her tightly, crying.Bye, Im gonna miss you. She replied serenely as she hugged the girl back without any traceof sadness, not a single drop of tear. She felt sad, she knew she was sad . Shes going to misseverything and everyone: the school, the teachers, the joy, the fun, the friends she hadherhigh school life. Theres just no way she could permit herself to cry. Why, because she wantedto act coo, because she worries about her pride? No, in fact she never tried to act cool, nor did

she care about pride. She simply cant let her tears ruin her make-up that took her more thanan hour to apply.

Lizzie stood still as she looked around the room, observing, thinking, feeling witnessingthe end of one unforgettable chapter. She could hear her breathing. She was making deepinhales and exhales blinking her eyes continually in small intervals as she tilted her headupward.

Not gonna cry yet?A familiar voice softly said from behind.Dwayne she said as she turned around hastily.

Dwayne gave her a warm smile. They looked at each others eyes for a moment and notlong, her tears began to drop bit by bit.

You look horrible when you cry, you know that? he said puckishly looking straight at her eyes.Shut up. You look worsealbeit you dont cry she countered cautiously wiping her face withher finger.Dwayne just tsked, not planning to tease her further. Here, use this. He said handing hishanky over.

Though he and Lizzie may be a complete opposite; hot and cold, black and white, day andnight and about 90% of their time together were spent arguing, hes not really used in seeingLizzie cry, and certainly had no plans. Theyve known each other as far as he could remember ,but hed only seen her cry once: when her bird, Kittie, died. It was too upsetting for her. Shegot it after 3 months of begging and everyday god-girl act. She was just 7 years old back then.

His and Lizzies father had been friends even before they were born so they grew up likesiblings in London.

So, how long do you guys plan to make us wait? A deep, cold voice said. Dwayne and Lizzieimmediately turned to the direction the voice came from.

Uncle Dwayne said as he sawthe most important man in Lizzies life, Daniel Hart.He was standing close to them wearing a light blue polo printed with black lines of no

recognizable pattern paired with black slacks and leather shoes. He had a broad shoulder and amasculine physique like that of a boxer.

Where did everyone go? Lizzie asked her father, Jeffrey, when she saw neither her mom norDwaynes parents.

Theyre waiting for the two of youI mean us, at the van. Look, we know its your big day butarent you hungry yet? In case you didnt notice, its already quarter to 12, soshall we gonow?he said as he swayed his arms showing the way.

Dwayne didnt care much that his parents went ahead without a word of congratulations, but Lizzies different, shes rather sensitive. She wasnt mad; she just felt like somethingsmissing, that her parents werent pleased, as if that day was nothing but a usual day when itwas very significant to her.

They changed their attire first before they headed to the parking area. When they were fewsteps away from the van, its lights were turned on directed to them and before they managed

to figure out whats going on, incessant popping sounds startled them.

Mom, dad, whats the..?asked Dwayne removing the paper strips from his hair. Anthea gavehim a hug and said, Isnt it obvious son? Wereco

Itsyour punishment for taking so long. Jeffrey Johnston interrupted as he connected a lightblow at Dwaynes chest.

This is so sweet mom, thanks. Lizzie said hugging Emlyn tightly.Thats not all baby, theres still more. I bet youll be shock.

    3/16

What is it, tell me? she asked eagerly. Not after lunch baby. Daniel said shaking his head and waving his finger pointing upwardsimultaneously.

Daniel was the one driving the van. Beside him in the front seat was of course, his belovedwife, Emlyn. Dwayne felt sleepy so he leaned his head on the window; he didnt close his eyesbut was looking on nil. Lizzie closed her eyes as she listened to the songs in her iPod. Nobodybothered to bother somebody. The quiet, bizarrely dull atmosphere went on until they finallyreached Blue Feathers, a restaurant owned by Dwaynes parents. They were especially led onone of the VIP rooms. It was roomy and exceptionally elegant. Everything were preparedfantastically from the mat to the wide table down to the food.

Come on guys, dig in. Theres plenty for everyone so dont hold back. Jeffrey said passingseveral plates over.

Like hell I will, Im too hungry I couldnt even talk, Daniel said helping himself.God, this isgood.

Hmmm, I should say your skills had improved again Thea. Emlyn complimented.

Thanks Emy. Here, try this one; its new, not yet on the menu. You better critic truthfully.

They talked about lots of things as they ate like how they plan to spend the season, whatwere their plans for college, where they wish to study and so on. Dwayne and Lizzie alreadyanticipated that serious topic despite their worthy having-fun time. Not that they hate it butthey already discussed it with their parents and obviously, they just wanted to talk about ittogether. They somewhat got used to it. For some reason, when their parents are together, they almost always tend to plan things out. Anyhow, the subject fortunately, for them, didntlast long.

Wow! Im too full I can hardly move my body. Daniel said rubbing his stomach.Thats what happens when you eat too much, Lizzie said then gulped a glass of water, somom, whats the thing you were saying will shock me?Daniel looked at her deeply, sharply, burrowing at her.

What? Lunchs finished. She said keenlyEmlyn laughed, You sure are impatient baby, fine. then took out a booklet from her shoulderbag, here, take a look at that.

Whats that? Dwayne asked stretching his neck, glancing on the booklet.Youll know after her. Jeffrey said with a teasing smile.OH MY GOSH!Lizzie shouted as she stood, her hand covering her mouth, eyes wide open. Are, are, are we reallyYesbaby, Daniel interrupted raising his passport. Were going to Philippines.

Emlyn was a Filipina. She and Daniel met in Australia; he was one of her patients back then. When they got married, she embraced a new life with her family in Australia. Knowing that fact,Lizzie had always wished to set foot on Philippines, visit the place where her mom grew up andsee her relatives in person.

Oh I cant wait to see Marissa and Melissa. She said hugging her passport closely.Didnt you just chat with them last night? Emlyn asked

  • 7/27/2019 A Spark of Existence

    4/16

Yeah I did but its still different in person. I can no longer wait to pinch their chicks. Thosetwins are just irresistibly cute.

Wait, can you take a seat first? Dwayne said with a knotty face. Then he pulled Lizzie down.Dont you think everythings too sudden? I meanA surprise should be sudden son.reminded Anthea.Dwayne was taken abackby surprise, his mouth left opened. You mean you knew about this?

We knew theyll go but we dont know when exactly, Jeffrey replied. So, when its gonnabe? he asked facing Daniel.

Tomorrow, He answered with a jolly look.Really? Lizzie asked. A wide smile bloomed on her face.Daniel and Emlyn tenderly smiled at her.

Why so soon? Dwayne asked sourly. Why? Arent you happy? Jeffrey asked looking confused.I am, but Im not ready, not yet, just.not now.

Everyone stared at him, hushed, puzzled by his response, his weird, peculiar reaction.I, I, I mean her. Yes her. Lizzie, shes not ready yet.I think he said despondently.

After recovering from that blow, they all went at the Lizzies place to help pack their things. The workwasnt that protracted since only few were left unpacked. Daniel and Emlyn secretlystarted the job a week ago. With 6 people, they sure finished earlier than expected so theyagreed to have dinner together, not on the restaurant, instead, at Daniels house this time, thefood especially prepared by them. Dwaynes family went home first to bath as they preparedthe dishes, and afterwards, would wash up.

Youre cookings good. The tenderness of the steak is just right. Anthea commented facingDaniel.Daniel wiped his mouth and said,I really wanted to say thanks if only I did most of thecooking, sadly it was Emlyn.

Well what can I say? Its hard to believe it coming from an expert, but thanks.Emlyn smiled.Mom, can I cook something for my cousins, aunt and grandma too when we arrive? Lizzieasked gleefully, innocently, her eyes were sparkling.

Sure thing baby. Emlyn replied wiping the sauce in Lizzies chick.

Lizzie wasnt called babyfor nothing. Being the lone child of a successful couple, she wastreated as a baby, living in lavishness; she got everything she needed and everything shewanted, a maid was hired so doing household chores was out of question.

I thought you like themDwayne saidI do.Lizzie clarified. Then why will you kill them? he asked pointing his fork at her.

FYI, my cookings not that bad. She clarified hitting his fork with her knife.

That night, was the dullest night they ever had. Their fine dinner was over, the dishes werebeing washed, no alcohol, simply juice, they cant get drunk and miss the plane, no singing ordancing like they normally do when they gather at eithers house, Just chit-chat, pure chit-chat.

As the adults were chatting at the living room, Lizzie went out, sat on a swing under the tree. She took her iPod out, put the earphones on her ear, and gently closed her eyes as she listenedto her favorite song, feeling the breeze as it softly touched her skin. She didnt hear Dwaynes

footsteps calmly approaching her. She had no idea someone was nearby until gradually, sheopened her eyes.

WhaDwayne! She said taking off one side of her earphones.Hi. He said as he took a sit beside her. What are you doing here? You trying to scare me?

Nope, and you, what are you doing here?Nothing much, just feeling the ambiance. She said, serenely looking at the stars.I know I would be gone for long butHow long? Dwayne intervened. What? For how long will you be staying there? he asked as he intensely stared at the sky.Im not sure, I havent asked, but mom cant leave her job for too long so probablyjust for amonth or even lesser I think.

That should be enough. To what? she asked turning her head to Dwayne. To think His eyes still at the sky.

About..?an answer. To she said, befuddled.Dwayne sighed. my question.

    What question?

Dwayne was silent for a moment. He faced down then turned his head to Lizzie. Therewere no traces of mock in his eyes, but not totally solemn. He looked like the usual Dwayne justthat, the seriousness was a bit leveled-up. She knew somethings going on, she just cant figureout what it was.

I love you. Dwayne said looking straight at her eyes. Do you feel the same way? he askedcalmly, unruffled. That question. He added with a smile.Lizzie was dumbfounded, speechless, like a body without soul sitting at the swing, motionless.

I wont chat with you, text you, or e-mail you when you leave. Ill give you all the time tothink. He said standing in front of her.

Hey Dwayne, Jeffrey shouted, We gotta go.See you tomorrow Lizzie. He said as he took his leave.Time for bed baby. Daniel shouted.Coming.Lizzie kept her eyes on Dwayne until she reached the front door.

    CHAPTER 2

Everyone went to bed. The night was deep and quiet. Lizzie was still moving around in bedunable to sleep. Closing her eyes would remind her of what happened. He suddenly said heloved her. Was he even serious? She couldnt help but ponder. God knows how s trong her heartkicked when she heard those words. She almost said yes despite of hisunromantic, nocreative or flowering, sweet, lovely words no flowers or necklace, or bracelet, not even acandle-light dinner but just-like-that confession. Not that shes complaining. Actually she washappy about how Dwayne felt about her and but shes always wary and careful in makingdecisions, especially when it comes to things not in her mind yet.

    6/16

Hey baby, wake up. Breakfast is served. Emlyn said kissing her forehead.Few more minutes mom she said as she covered her face with a blanket.Do you want to miss the plane?

Oh crap! she said and swiftly got up the bed.

She was still lethargic even after taking a bath. She didnt felt like she had slept at all. Herhead was banging around like a rocker as she ate her breakfast, heavy-eyed. She was eatingsomething, for sure, but didnt know what it was. She could care less about food, whatmattered most was her sleep she would make her mind climb up the stairs back to bed if onlyshe could.

Are you not feeling well baby? Daniel worriedly looked at her You dont have to forceyourself. We can cancel the flight.

No dad, Im fine. Im just kind of sleepy.Dont worry I can sleep on the way.She said smilingDaniel looked at her in incredulity.

    Its true. She said doggedly.

This is all Dwaynes fault. If only he didnt say those words, at least he could have clearedthings out before he left. How the hell would she know if he was serious or just grabbing everybit of opportunity to make fun of her before she leave while their she is, somewhat celebratingfor loves success? Did she even hear it right, one of her earphone was still on after all? Shethought. How she hoped she did.

She sat on the swing outside after having her breakfast. Meanwhile, the maid, abetted byher parents was organizing their baggage at the van. The sun had not risen yet, the shady bluesky made her feel composed. In her mind was the picture ofDwaynes expression last night as

he confessed on the very same place. Its not like she wanted to but its bothering her. Howwould she react when she sees him, or the contrary? Sure she loved him but she didnt want tosay yes yet. Never would she say no. Soshould she just ignore him? If not, then what shouldshe saywhat would he say? She may be smart but apparently, she didnt find the answer untilDwayne, who arrived with his parents earlier than she expected, approached her right away.

She knew she needed to do something, but what? Every step he takes, the closer theybecome, the more she panicked. Okay thats it. First things first, she needed to know howserious he was on what he said, or if he was even serious about it, or was it even a confessionto begin with. Her uneasiness grew; she cant bring herself to ask him. What if he was serious? She blushed on the thought. When Dwayne was only about two meters away, she came upwith the go-with-the-flow plan, which meant let Dwayne start the conversation.

Lizzie, Dwayne simply said.Is he going to talk about last night? Did he realized it was too unromantic and decided to

confess again in a more serious, convincing, creativenever mind the creativeand of courseromantic way? Her heart was beating fast. Hes not going to do it here right at this verymoment, is he? Her face was hot. She wondered how red her face must have looked. She justlooked down on the ground, embarrassed to look in his eyes, waiting for the words to follow.

How can you afford to be seating here, relaxing, while uncle and the others are sorting yourstuffs out?he said both hands on his waist.

  • 7/27/2019 A Spark of Existence

    7/16

WhaDont use the feeling-the-ambiance thing again cause thats not enough reason.Lizzie was dazed. He just acted like nothing happened last night, he really just did, like he saidnothing unusual while she was bothered by it all night, unable to sleep, almost causing it tocancel their flight?

Who are you to talk to me that way? she asked as she stood highly, feeling insulted. The man yearning for your yes. He answered, this time, his hands inside his pocket, eyesfocused on hers. She was stunned again, thunderstruck. She expected him to discuss things about last night, yes, he wanted him to and in fact, shes been waiting for him to, but who would have thoughthell say it bluntly.

Youre right...I, I, I really should go help them. She was able to say at last and swiftly leavebefore she dies from suffocation.

She went to the kitchen at once, took a glass of water and swigged as fast as she can, thentook out a big ahhh of relief. That guys presence was enough to drive her crazy. Lizzie felttotally uncomfortable, precisely anywhere near Dwayne, when shes supposed to be thinkingabout Philippines. She went inside the bathroom and washed her face at once hoping to regain

her poise when suddenly someone knocked lightly on the door. She wasnt startled, certainlynot by the knock but rather, by whom she saw as she opened the door, Dwayne Johnston. When Dwaynes mouth showed a brief hint of speaking, Lizzie slammed the door that instant onreflex and locked it right away. Why did she do that? Dwayne must have thought she hatedhim.

Im sorry.said Dwayne, calmly leaning his back on the door.Sorry, I didnt mean to slam the door, she responded, shifting her weight on the door andsighed. I never thought Id overreact on something as simple as that.she said that but in hermind, that matter was never simple.

No, to be honest, Im somewhat glad with your reactions. Why?Because not once did it cross my mind that my words can actually reach and turn you intosomeone you are not.

What do you mean by someone Im not? she asked, intrigued. You he continued. You used to be a natural mood-killer but now, an expert heartbreaker. He heard a click when Lizzie unlocked the door so he moved a step away.

Hey, Im no heartbreaker. Besides, how can someone never been in a relationship be aheartbreaker?

Huh! I knew that word will make you open the door.

And just like that, the nervousness, uneasiness, awkwardness, all the discomfort Lizzie feltthat time vanished. Dwayne always had his way with her; he knew exactly how to handle thingsin a manner she would feel comfortable with aside from last night. He anticipated Lizzies

bizarre reactions but he felt the need to confess his feelings before she leave. He cant help butbe selfish for once. Hed always been patient but not now, now that the girl hed been waitingfor years to be prepared on all aspects for relationships, not just studies, could be stolenanytime anywhere by anyone hopelessly without a fight.

Frankly speaking, Im not that certain yet if I Dwayne threw a towel on her face. You wipe it first. He said referring to her real wet face. He was really not bothered by it; hejust didnt want to listen. He most likely knew what she was trying to say. Lizzie was the ex-

president of the drama club so her acting was indeed very convincing. Dwayne was completelyconvinced Lizzie wasnt sure about her feelings for him. Though he could act as if everythingsfine as it is, hes still a man; hes not prepared to be rejected the day after he confessed hisfeelings for the first time, he didnt plan to, not yet, if only they could spend spring breaktogether, hell have more chances without a doubt, he thought.

Remember what I said last night? Ill give you all the time to think till you come back here. This is the last and only favor Ill ask of you. Please take your time and think profoundly aboutit. Ill waitpatiently. Dwayne said, earnestly looking at her.Just how much serious could he be? Lizzie felt so bliss to have a man like him loving her. Shecant believe she doubted him. This just proved that it was no laughing matter. By no meanswould she hurt this man letting him slip away from her hand, she thought. Her decision wasfirm; she wont show how pleased she was, make him wait and as a final point, say, the wordhe was yearning for, yes. Until then, shell continue acting the way she wanted to.

Thenbefore Im back, were still friends right. She asked.Of course brainy, Ill be waiting. After all, love confession x me, what else could be the productaside from lovers? he said stepping closer towards her with a grin.

You really suck in math Dwayne. She reacted throwing back the towel on his face.

Perhaps, even so, I know that you + me = baby.He kid taking the towel off.Pardon.

With that kind of conversation, things went back to normal, or thats how it appeared.Several moments had past and everything was ready; the luggage was on the taxi, tickets andpassports were secured. All thats left was for them to board and they would be on-the-go.Jeffrey didnt agree but Daniel was adamant for them not to see them offand did not take nofor an answer. They arrived at the airport an hour before their flight.

Because of her lack of sleep, she spent just about all her time on plane in deep slumber. It was a long journey to Philippines, nevertheless, her excitement, thrill, and enthusiasm did notreduce one bit. She didnt really care how long it would take them. For her, arriving there iswhat mattered most.

When shes awake, she would listen to the songs on her iPod which she usually do es closingher eyes. If not, she would look out the window thinking about several things; shes going tosee them in person at last. What food should she cook for them? Shes a huge-eater butunexpectedly, she craved not much for food, mostly beverage. And like a blink of an eye, eventually, the about- 6-hour travel on air had ended. The plane landed in Visayas, specificallyin Cebu, one of the most developed provinces in the Philippines.

As they were coming out, a girl shouted calling Emlyn, waving at them with a smileextended to its utmost range. It was Lucille, Emlyns younger sister. They waved back, rapidlyapproaching her. Emlyn walked, opened her arms widely and gave her a dense, tender hugwhich she had not done for years. The last time she was there was 9 years ago; Lizzie was 7

    yrs. old then.

Without a moment to waste, they rode the car heading to their house. Lizzie had alreadypicked her energy up; she talked nineteen to the dozen frenziedly, which everyone enjoyed. Itwas fun listening to her oohs and aaahs especially when they passed through Mactan-MandaueBridge, to her favorable, quite out-of- this-world statements, comments and opinions. She waslike a 4-yr-old kid first time in an amusement park. She was upset that her cousins werentthere to pick them up but she had a handle on it after her aunt Emlyn explained in detail; it

may be spring break for her, but it was school days for the kids. It took an hour and a half totwo before they arrived at their destination.

It was a two-story house with four bedrooms. It was elegant; the corners were curve, itsshape was irregular, the color was off white with maroon strokes around the rectangle glasswindow and in between painted horizontally. Marbles were used as posts. There were about afoot long bricks on the bottom with soil planted with yellow and pink flowers. The yard waswide enough for 7 cars to park, though they limited it to two. There were Bermudas around andsteps from the gate towards the veranda, white and lavender flowers on its side. It was nicelylandscaped, refreshing to her eyes, most likely to anyones.

The persons waiting on the house were the maid and naturally, her grandmother, Mara.Emlyn hugged her mother, who can barely stand, closely in her arms like there was notomorrow. Lucille and Dwayne stood beside Lizzie as they watched their most awaited reunion.Lizzie was moved by the picture, the scenario playing right before her eyes. Not once did hermom wear an expression of such; her eyes were longing, missing, but certainly, she wassmiling, both cried a tear which they wiped right away with their finger, but undeniably thosewere tears of joy.

Everyone changed to well-offclothes; its hotter there after all. Lizzie nattered with hergrandma, narrating her fun experiences as she grew up, which Mara failed to witness. Danielalso joined their conversation sitting beside Lizzie with a cup of coffee in hand.Meanwhile, Emlyn and Lucille were in the kitchen preparing for lunch, they sure missed thosetimes, and they no longer remember when they last cooked together like that.

Everyone, lunch is ready! Emlyn called.Coming, said Daniel, pushing Maras wheelchair.Wooow Lizzie couldnt believe her eyes. The round six-sitter glass table was actually filledwith Filipino cuisines shed never seen before. Without further ado, they all took their seatsfilling their plates with that food and this food, their arms often crossed over as they reachedfor the dishes.

They had one remarkable lunch they. Though the twins were regrettably not around, Lizzieabsolutely enjoyed everyones company and naturally, the cuisines shed only seen on the netserved on the table in front of her. While her parents were making the most of their timechatting, laughing with her aunt and grandma in the living room right after their lunch, shewent outside and sat on a bench in the veranda after several minutes. Not that she wanted tobe alone; she just cant pull alongside their conversation anymore. She got whatever they weretalking about but few. The thought that one of the maids had left to fetch her cousins in 1 stgrade whose classes will end at 3 p.m. kept her company and awake in spite of the hot dizzyingweather. She leaned her back comfortably and habitually, took out her IPod, put on herearphones and listened to the songs on her playlist as she waited for her beloved, adorable,

    huggable cousins.

Out of nowhere everything turned black, pitch black, darkness unlike any other. It resembledthe end of the whole lot. She saw nothing, not even her own body. All the voices, every singlesound she heard slowly faded as if she was shifting away. She felt like a bodiless soul floatingon nothingness. The drawn out silence was deafening. She got the faintest impression she wasspinning. Not long and she felt dizzy. She wanted to move. Not caring which direction it shouldbe, she wanted to run. But like a hotdog in a sandwich, like a cookie in a cream, she cant lift a

finger. The surrounding was dense, heavy. Soon, it was suffocating. Just what really was goingon? She thought. She was panting, felt her feet starting to numb. Was she dying? Perhaps, wasshe dead? She was on that state for about 3 minutes when out of the blue, a light as tiny as a

dot came into sight slowly but surely expanding. The warmth of that light changed heruneasiness and fear to relief and hope. Gradually, the darkness around her was eaten by thatlight until it was so bright she closed her eyes since it hurt. Now what? Is she on her way toheaven?

    CHAPTER 3

Lizzie, still lightheaded, felt a strong wind around his body just few minutes after the brightlight appeared. She was undoubtedly scared but comprehend she needed to be aware ofwhatever is happening regardless of how crazy it may be. Slowly, she opened her eyes and toher surprise, shes likely a hundred feet off the ground and for goodness sake shes fallingtowards a tree about 40 ft. tall.

Waaaa! she shouted with such a sharp feminine voice, closing her eyes again. Soon she feltsome branches of the tree hit her and it hurt but who cares, shes too afraid of height to open

her eyes, besides, doing so would be of no help. She kept her eyes close and shouted as longas she can until she landed at a big wide green grass field. Her whole body aches buterratically, she it wasnt as painful as it was supposed to be. She gently opened her eyes, scanned the area and stood up.

Yes! Im alive! Im really alive, my God, Im great! she shouted facing the sky with both armsraised to its highest ranged when suddenly, she heard someone coughed. She looked down andfound a man lying on the ground.

AhhhI so hate it when someone disrupts my sleep. The man said and coughed again as hewas trying to pull himself up.

He stood and stared at her. She was stunned, holding her breath. She felt like she wasslowly melting by his stare. He had deep innocent eyes as blue as the sky with clean-cut hairthe same color with his eyes. He was tall more than 6 feet high, but he even seemed taller ashe stood near Lizzie covering the ray of the sun from the position she was in. He lookedmasculine but not bulky. He was wearing black long-sleeve polo with an L, T and F logo on itsright chest paired with black pants with white stripes on every end and white shoes. His clothes

just perfectly fit his milk-white skin. If she were to guess, he must still be a teen-ager; probablythe same age as her, if not a year or two older.Wait, did she hit him when she fell down? She wonderedI, Im sorry I didnt mean to hitordid I land at you?

BothI didnt mean it, really. The man scratched his head, eyes half opened this time.Just dont disturb my sleep again. Hesimply said and walked pass her, stepping away.

Ah! Wait, youre shoulders bleeding.Just a minor wound. Worry not. he said not turning his head to her, walking straight ahead ina forest until he was out of her sight. What am I doing standing leisurely in a place like this, a place she stopped when shenoticed a Jaw dropping panorama around her. Everywhere was green and refreshing to theeyes especially when the grasses swing with the every blow of the wind, the breeze was gentle, trees all around but not muddled, little dried leaves on the ground, you could hear animalsmaking sound, and there were no tall buildings or houses that cover the view. Everything was

clearly seen, the sky, the lake that shimmers as it reflected the radiance of the sun severalmeters away, cylindrical structures flat on the ground downhill, probably made of wood.

Where in the world am I?she asked browsing the place in amazement. Is this a dream? shepinched her arm. Awww, that hurts. If shes not dreaming then where was she? Why was shethere? That guy should know the answer. She presumed, pulled herself back and made hermove to the same direction the man took.

Lizzie pursed her tongue as she went deeper into the forest. Why did she have to gothrough all this hassles? This is all that no-care mans fault. She thought. There are a lot ofbranches sharp enough to scratch her fair skin and ewww, insects everywhere. She hatedthose.

Anyone here? she shouted Hello! Anybody can hear me? she continued as she walkedfurther, deeper in the forest where little light is present.

As she chucked out the branches blocking her way, she heard a sound from behind. Well, shes in a forest, hearing sounds was common. She thought, trying to ease herself. However, after taking few steps, she heard a loud howl echoing in the vicinity. Now shes having goosebumps. She felt that someone or something is looking at her from behind. She was so scared

she didnt move an inch or more like she cant. Then she heard the steps getting closer.Whatever it is, no doubt its approaching her. Maybe its the wounded man she met. Shegulped, devoured her fear and slowly turned her head. The light from the sun was covered bythose unusually huge trees so she cant see clearly. She focused her eyes on the direction sheheard the sound coming from for a moment. She heard the loud howl again, even louder thistime, which startled her. She was scared to death, her legs were shaking, her heart was beatingso fast, yet she didnt thought of running away, not until she saw big pointed red eyes directedto her.

Like greased lightning, she ran as fast as she could, shouting at the top of her voice, notminding the branches grazing her skin, the mud she stepped on dirtying her clothes. Sheneeded to get away was all in her mind. Unluckily, she stumbled on something she and fell flaton the ground. When she looked back, she saw the thing following her standing just about ameter away from her. It was too dark to identify it but sure enough it was as big as a horse. She tried to run away, even if doing so was hopeless, but her right foot was hurt. She was soscared she was shaking. When she noticed it stepping closer, she shouted again nonstop.

Just how many times do you plan to disrupt my sleep? a familiar deep voice nearby saidsimply. Strangely, she stopped shaking. In a second, Lizzie felt a slight movement very close toher foot. Could it be a snake? The man yawned. Cut it out Birdie. That girls not fun to play with. Shes boring. he saidplainly, pulling himself up from the ground.

Eh? Lizzie stopped when she recognized what was moving. It was no snake but rather, theno-care wounded man she was looking for.And can you tell me your bases in saying Im boring? She said still sitting with her right foot

laying flat on the ground. You disrupted my sleep twice?Didnt that make him the boring one? Lizzie thought.

Anyway, this dogs my friend. He just wanted to play with you so theres nothing to be so whipup about. He said tapping birdies head.Hes a dog?!?

Isnt it obvious?he turned his head to the so-called dog, Ahhh, I knowhes too cute for adog, isnt he? Im cuter though, right? He asked the dog which responded with a bark.

This guy must be crazy. She shouldnt have gone looking for him. She didnt think it was a goodidea to associate with them.

I have to go. Hurriedly, she pulled herself up. AWWW!Whats wrong? the guy stepped closer to her.My foot must have sprained. Oh God, this is seriousNeed help?Obviously she needed one but hesitated. She was yet to get the whole picture but no doubt, shes neither in Philippines nor Australia. Shes in an extremely odd place full of enormouslyhuge trees with a weird person and a horse-sized dog he thinks cuter than her. No matter howshe looked at it, even if shes dreaming, everything was too bizarre and accepting this guyshelp could be dangerous.

Guess its a no.The man pointed his index finger upward and in a blink of an eyea lightappeared surrounding him and the dog.

Lets get moving birdie.but before they made a stepWhWhatHow? How did you do that?Lizzie asked, bewildered. Was he a magician? Nah,more likely a witch, Lizzie presumed. It was afterall best to stay away from him.

Do what? You mean this light? Im a light holder so doing this is a piece of cake, right Birdie?

It responded with a loud bark. What light holder? What was he talking about? Was he even human?

If you want I can give you light enough till you get out of here, not unless youre one yourself, are you?

No this guy may be suspicious to her but it made him suit this suspicious mysterious placeshes in. He clearly knows more about this place. One way or another, she needed to the riskgather more information from him.

Thenwhat are you?She was shushed. On second thought, I guessI need a hand. She said avoiding the topic, not knowing how shes supposed to answer that question. Making guesses was totally futile.

Sure thing, bend down Birdie. the dog bended all its legs. Get on.You meanyou want me to ride a dog?I dont see anything wrong with that. Its either you get on him now or we get moving withoutyou. Which is which?

The former. She had no other option. She crossed her right foot over followed by her left.Butis it harmless? Its not gonna eat me right?she asked as the dog stood up. She neededto at least think about her safety.

Not when youre raw. The man grinned. What!?Lizzie was too surprised she almost fell.Careful. The man grasped her waist.Letme go. Lizzie resisted moving crazily. It was just a joke.Lizzie stopped moving. It wasnt. she said.

It was a jokereally. The man said trying to appear serious despite his unreliable joker face. No, I meanit wasnt funny.

They were moving nonstop for several minutes already. The surrounding was gettingbrighter. Lizzie still cant believe what she had put herself into; she was actually riding on awhite fluffy chubby dog, which was actually cute if not just because of its pointed red eyes, witha man walking alongside with them lighting their wayliterally. This kind of scenario had nevercrossed her mind, not even in her dreams.

Hows your foot? the guy asked. It doesnt hurt as long as I dont move it.Were almost out from this forest. I know someone who can heal you, if you want, we canbring you to him.

Is he reliable?Sure isReally? Why not see it yourself?Lizzie was honestly nervous. It was printed all over her face. What kind of guy would she meet? Will it be another out of ordinary? Perhaps, could it be a pervert that would ask for her body ascompensation for tending her?

Ill stay with you till youre healed so really, theres nothing to be nervous about. She didnt know if he said it to calm her or make her all the more nervous. This is your entirefault. She sniffed.

Hey wait! No crying. How did it become my fault when it was you who hit me while I waspeacefully sleeping on the tree, landed at me which hurt like hell and kicked my butt I could diefrom pain?

She remembered hitting and landing but, kicking his butt? When did I ever kick your butt? There, at the forest. You couldnt have possibly forgotten how hard you kicked me, could you?He said looking directly at Lizzies injured foot.

You mean I tripped at you!?NO! I meant you kicked me.Like whaBirdies bark interrupted her.

Yeah right, were finally out.The same time the sun shone brightly at them, the light wasturned out.

They walked downhill passing the grassland. Their pace was regular and constant. Thevicinity was peaceful and refreshing. There were birds soaring in the sky with sun shiningbrightly, but it was neither hot nor cold. Lizzie felt relaxed as she closed her eyes feeling everybrace of the wind touch her face. It reminded her of the night with Dwayne under the tree. That night may not be as refreshing as this and the vicinity may not be a very peaceful one butit was certainly the best time of her life. Then she remembered visiting Philippines. The weathermay be hot and the heat of the sun was dizzying butting nothing could compare the feeling ofknowing her mom deeper and meeting her family in person. Unwillingly, tears started droppinggradually from her eyes. She missed them; her life, her family, her friends, her home. Shewanted to see them. While she was all emotional, she felt something wet on her left foot. Shegently opened her eyes and learned that Birdie was licking it.

Hes telling you its alright to cry when it hurts. The man explained. Birdie woofed facing her.Lizzie wiped her face immediately. Thanks, she said caressing Birdies hair. But please dont

lick me again, its kinda gross.Youre really good in showing gratitude to the one carrying and caring for you. Obviously hewas being sarcastic.

Just being honest. Lizzie murmured. Were here at last. Ignoring what he heard, he stopped in front of a cylindrical-shapedstructure.

What is this place? Lizzie asked as she scanned the surrounding full of horizontally andvertically aligned structures with uniform color and shape, some were huge others small. People

were passing but the ways were wide so it wasnt crowded at all. Maybe she was so into hermind that she failed to realize the sound of the people growing louder, not noisy, as they gotnearer.

This is the center of the zone where people gather, work and reside. This one in front of us isa friends house, the one who can heal you.So the structures she saw before were actually houses, she comprehended.

Here, he offered his arm forming an L shape as Birdie bended to help her dismount which shemodestly grasped.

Hes reliable right?she asked as she stood in front of him.Even if I say he is its not like youll believe it?Birdie stepped forward and calmly knocked thedoor twice. Well trained, she thought. Were already here so just see it yourself.

The door squeaked as it slowly opened in the inside. A man whose attire was similar to thatof the one with her was standing on the other side of the door. He had a straight long moss-green hair the same color with his eyes. Though the man was wearing slim rectangular blackeyeglasses, she could still glimpse genuine calmness in it.

Maxon Saven on duty, how can I help you?

I, Im Lizzie and uhmm...Actually a man, I mean this man said thatWhich man? he interrupted when he saw no one on the direction Lizzie was pointing.Himshe turned around and to her surprise, found no one standing behind her.Im sure hewas here a moment ago. That man, did he possibly trick her?

I think he still is.What do you mean?Lizzie looked at the direction Maxon was facing andthe man was therelying face-flat on the ground, completely unconscious.

    CHAPTER 4

Things just happened one after the other. Lizzie didnt know what to do or how to feel whenshe saw the man who was calmly talking to her just a moment ago lying unconscious. For sureshe wasnt happy about it, but she wasnt sad as well. She felt the urge to do something butwhat? She couldnt think properly. She didnt know why, shes normally calm no matter whatsituation shes in, but she was dead nervous. Maxon, without delay, opened the door to itswidest range, stepped out of the house and carried him on his back and went inside.

Please feel free to come in. Maxon told Lizzie as he laid the man on a bed.She hesitantly went inside on her own, struggling, managing the pain. Maxon assisted her rightaway when he noticed her condition and led her to his wide comfy green L-shaped sofa.

Whats wrong with him?His mind.Huh!?You seehe has this priceless valuable precious inborn stupidity. He said as he wore a black

glove in his right hand and kneeled, with his right leg on the floor, in front of her. Let me seeyour foot.

Youre not going to treat him first?Dont worry, he still has-- lets seetwo hours Maxon turned his head to him, no thats toolong, hmm, probably an hour to live. He put Lizzies foot on his lap. Itll take me 10 minutes toheal this. Please stay still until then.He steadily placed his right hand about an inch above herinjured foot. Throughout that time, though quiet, a lot of things were unintentionally running onLizzies mind; is this one of their tricks, spells rather? Will it even work? Besides, is this man on

his right mind? How could he prioritize someone with an injured foot instead of someone who,as he said, could probably die in an hour? A moment she was surrounded by her family andnowshes, unfortunately, surrounded by crazy people, though on first glance, they appearnormal.

Finally, how do you feel? asked Maxon.Lizzie randomly moved her foot and it seriously didnt hurt at all. It was sort of like a magic butof course, she doesnt believe on those stuffs. Well, maybe on that world she can. Great! shesaid enthusiastically.

Good, now that its done why dont we have our own little chat? he asked as he sat on theother end of the sofa placing his feet on the wooden oval center table, looking straight in hereyes.

Excuse me? Lizzie didnt expect him to suddenly say that considering their situation.Where should I start? HmmOh yeah where did you come from? Youre not from this zoneright? I pretty much know their faces. How could I not recognize a beauty like you?No need to be nervous. She only had to be extra careful with anything she does and everythingshe says. She kept warning herself.II, I dont have to answer your questionI think.

Hahahayour nervous look is the cutest. Well, yeah, youre right, though it would sadden me,

you have the freewill to overlook that question. But before anything else, arent you supposed to heal him first?Lizzie looked at the directionthe man was laying.

I love to, honestly, but I cant yet. Ive been healing nonstop since this morning and haventtaken a quality break. I badly need one. My energy is not enough to get rid of the poison in hisbody.

What do you mean poison?I noticed it when I carried him inside. That heal holder guy we caught this morning must haveplanted it on the wound on his shoulder. Im more than sure hes aware of it and yetMaxonSighed. Hes as reckless as always.Lizzie remembered seeing that wound on his shoulder when he turned his back moving deeper

into the forest.SoSo just leave him be. Whats the big deal?Lets just talk about the two of us. How does itsound to you?Maxon was slowly, carefully moving his body closer to her, looking at her withfeverish eyes. While Lizzie was feeling all awkward, they heard a loud BANG and saw the door broken intopieces.

IT SOUNDS ABSURD! a womans voice shouted just outside the room.NO! Not again! Not this time!he immediately stood and looked around, need to hide, needto hide he murmured.

THINK YOU CAN HIDE!? the girl stepped inside moving swiftly towards them and the nextthing Lizzie knew, Maxon was lifted calmly by the girl spinning his body horizontally, which very

much surprised her. That kind of situation was undoubtedly rare even on movies or dreams. She cant believe its

actually happening right before her very own eyes. It was as if her eyes were tricking her. Thegirl was not muscular or bulky, as a matter of fact, she was slim and sexy and from her look, probably the same age as her. Her skin was not white, but it wasnt dark as well. Its colorperfectly fitted her white short hair.

AHHH!!! PUT ME DOWN! PUT ME DOWN! Maxon shouted.

    16/16

Tsk, not even a word of please. The girl responded.PLEASEEEEEEEEE!!! PUT ME DOWN IM GONNAPUUUUUUUUUUUKE!!!!Ill put you down only when you take your words back.YES I TAKE IT BACK!!! IM SORRYYYY!!! IM GOING TO HEAL HIM RIGH AWAY. HE ONLY HASFEW MINUTES LEFT SO WE SHOULD HURthe girl instantly put him down callously. Thathurts he muttered.

You should have told me earlier. Dont waste any more time and start healing him.Right away. he took out a pair of gloves from his pocket, wore it, stepped towards the manand did the same thing he did to her, except hes using both his hands this time. He turned hishead to Lizzie and smiled.

This one would take for about half an hour soIm wondering ifyou can wait so we couldcontinue our conversation after Lizzie.

Lizzie?the red haired girl asked Maxon while looking at Lizzie.Ill tell you if you fix my door. The girl stamped her foot sturdily causing the floor around her to crumble did you saysomething?

No what would I be saying? then he mumbledaside from fix the floor as well. Im sorry

the circumstances didnt give me the chance to introduce this beautiful lady to you. Her namesLizzie. Shes the one who brought your reckless cousin here to my house. Lizzie, this girl is

Awen Flestia, Zhiercks cousinHe said not moving his arms and body.Whos Zhierck? Lizzie asked Maxon.Huh? Ah, this unconscious foolish reckless guy right here is Zhierck, Zhierck Leighton.

That half of the hour seemed longer as they waited for him to regain consciousness. Lizzieneeded nothing else to confirm that shes not lost, shes not dreaming and most of all shes notcrazy. She might have accidentally angered a fairy or hit a dwarfs house or perhaps insulted agod or goddess, anyhow, she was in a completely different world and thus, she had to be ascareful as she could in keeping her secret till she finds a way to go back home. She didnt careone bit where on earth she ends up as long as its earth.

finds himself being dragged around by the girl's pace despite his determined and ultimately futile

    resistance.

Some words needed to be said. Things that becomes regretful if you dont convey them when you can.

Almost shamelessly. By all mean, on your own. Farewells for facing the future. Separation makes
