How to Access and Register for iWebfolio (the software that houses your University Writing Portfolio)

**Please note that iWebfolio is not compatible with Internet Explorer; be sure you are using another browser (such as Firefox, Chrome, Safari etc.).

1) ACCESSING iWebfolio through Pirate Port 1) Go  to  www.ecu.edu  and  scroll  down  to  the  “Quick  Links”  section  which  will  be

on  the  right.  Click  on  the  link  for  “Pirate  Port”

2) Fill  in  your  Pirate  ID  and  Password  and  click  on  the  “Log  In”  button  in  the

upper  right  corner.

Page 3: A Student Guide to ECU iWebfolio...Create my University Writing Portfolio.....7 Upload files to the portfolio under my course?.....10 Upload files from a second 2000 (or above) level

3

4) Click  on  the  “Student  Portfolio”  link  beneath  the  “Academic  Affairs”  heading.

Note  that  your  list  of  tools  may  look  different  than  this  one  based  on  your  university  status  (faculty,  undergraduate  student,  graduate  student,  etc.).  There  should,  however,  be  a  link  like  the  one  below  to  “student  portfolio.”

5) The  following  page  will  appear.  Click  on  the  “Continue  to  iWebfolio”  button.

Page 4: A Student Guide to ECU iWebfolio...Create my University Writing Portfolio.....7 Upload files to the portfolio under my course?.....10 Upload files from a second 2000 (or above) level

Creating Your University Writing Portfolio As always, be sure you are using a browser other than Internet Explorer, which is not compatible with iWebfolio. After logging into your iWebfolio account through Pirate Port, you will need to set up the University Writing Portfolio. To do this you… First, click on the “Portfolios” tab at the top left corner of your screen next to the Home tab.

Then click on “Create New Portfolio” at the top of the list of portfolios.

Click on “English Department” from the list on the left. Find the “University Writing Portfolio” on the list in the middle. Then, click on “Select” to the right of the University Writing Portfolio.

The next screen will show the default reviewers* for that portfolio, leave as is, and click “Next.” *Default reviewers, such as “Reviewer1 QEP” in the list below, will help assess the impact of the QEP. If your portfolio is randomly selected for assessment--something that will not happen until after you have completed your degree program--a default reviewer will score it, along with a random sample of several other portfolios from recent graduates, to see if QEP initiatives are helping student writers. Results of the assessment will never be communicated in any way that links scores to individual students/graduates.

On the next screen, it should show your first and last name, along with the “University Writing Portfolio.” Leave the info the same and just click “Save.”

Your portfolio should automatically load and appear similar to the image below.

If the portfolio does not automatically load, you may need to repeat these steps.

Tip: Some students may take more than one writing intensive course in the same level. For example, a student may take ENGL 2200 and then ENGL 2400 the following semester. When uploading files, add files in successive order (i.e. the major project for ENGL 2200 would go in “Course 1 Major Project”. The major project for ENGL 2400 would go in “Course 2 Major Project”. Also, naming your documents with the course prefix and course number, as pictured below, will help instructors figure out which documents are from their class and are ready to review.

Once step 11 is completed, the section should look like the image below, with the file listed just below the section.

12. When you have uploaded the files to the appropriate area of your course, click the save icon located in the grey icon bar. Always SAVE after uploading new content!

Click on the magnifying glass to exit the menu. You can also log out or return to your portfolios list via the bulleted list menu button.

Granting Permissions As always, be sure you are using a browser other than Internet Explorer, which is not compatible with iWebfolio. After accessing your University Writing Portfolio (UWP), you should see a grey capsule ghost menu located in the lower left of the UWP screen. To grant your instructor permission to view uploaded files, click on the key icon in the capsule menu.

A menu should appear on the right.

Click on Institution Reviewers and use the search box under it to enter your instructor’s last name.

After typing the name in, a narrowed list of instructors will appear below the text box. For this example, I will find the instructor “Wendy Sharer.”

Page 19: A Student Guide to ECU iWebfolio...Create my University Writing Portfolio.....7 Upload files to the portfolio under my course?.....10 Upload files from a second 2000 (or above) level

19

If you move your mouse over the name, you will see a black key icon pop up on the right side. Click on this key to grant the instructor permission to view your portfolio.

You should receive notification that the instructor has been added successfully. If you added the wrong instructor, or want to remove your instructor after the semester, click on the red “X” next to their name.

Click on the magnifying glass to exit the menu. You can also log out or return to your portfolios list via the bulleted list menu button.

To do this, select the green plus symbol (+). A drop down list will appear. Select “Refresh Files.”

This will refresh the files list and your document should now appear in either the My Files folder or whatever folder you have uploaded the document to.

My file is over 250mb. How do I upload it to iWebfolio? As always, be sure you are using a browser other than Internet Explorer, which is not compatible with iWebfolio. Unfortunately the portfolio file uploader cannot handle uploads over 250mb. However, you can still upload the files via the iWebfolio main page and then go back into your portfolio to drag them to your class. To accomplish this, exit your portfolio and go back to the main iWebfolio page. From here, click on the “Files” tab.

From this page, click on the “Add New File” button.

Page 31: A Student Guide to ECU iWebfolio...Create my University Writing Portfolio.....7 Upload files to the portfolio under my course?.....10 Upload files from a second 2000 (or above) level

31

This brings you to the Basic File Uploader. As you can see by the “NOTE,” it prompts you to use the Advanced File Uploader, accessible by clicking on the “Advanced File Upload” button.

Also note: You may need to activate or install Java to use the Advanced File Uploader. If you do, you may receive a notice prompting you to do so, such as the one below.

If you have Java installed or activated, Java will load and the black part in the picture above will turn white. NOTE: If Java does not load and you receive an error message, try the quick fix found here: https://www.java.com/en/download/help/java_blocked.xml 1. Go to Start Menu. 2. Locate the Java folder and choose “Configure Java.” 4. Choose the “Security Tab” a. Choose “Edit Site List” and enter https://www.iwebfolio.com (then ADD) 5. Choose “Apply” For now, this should fix the issue for those users wishing to use the applet.

Page 32: A Student Guide to ECU iWebfolio...Create my University Writing Portfolio.....7 Upload files to the portfolio under my course?.....10 Upload files from a second 2000 (or above) level

32

From there, figure out which folder you want the document to go into by using the dropdown menu at the top left corner, then click anywhere inside the white box.

An upload box will appear. Find the document on your computer you want to upload to iWebfolio and click “Upload.”

Page 33: A Student Guide to ECU iWebfolio...Create my University Writing Portfolio.....7 Upload files to the portfolio under my course?.....10 Upload files from a second 2000 (or above) level

33

As your file uploads, a box will appear giving you a progress report on your upload. When your file upload is complete, click “Exit” to return to the Advanced File Upload page.

Clicking on the “Files” tab will bring you back to the main list of files. Your newly uploaded file should show up in the folder you uploaded it to. If not, try clicking the “Show All Files” button and/or try clicking the “Refresh Files” button to locate the file.

Where can I get more help? You can obtain further assistance by: Asking consultants in the University Writing Center, located on the first floor of Joyner Library, for help. Visiting the QEP Website at www.ecu.edu/QEP
