A MESSAGE FROM FR. TRUC

HAPPY FATHER’S DAY “I live, no longer I, but Christ lives in me” (Gal 2)

Dear Parishioners and Friends:

On this special occasion of Father’s Day, I wish all Fathers a wonderful celebration with families and friends. God has blessed you with wonderful gifts and responsibilities to have someone called you “father” or “dad.” The prayer, Our Father, that we often say during our private prayer and Eucharistic celebration, is a great reminder of our relationship with God as our Creator. According to Tertullian, the Church’s 2nd century historian and apologist, this prayer is “the summary of the whole Gospel.”

“The Lord’s Prayer is the prayer of the Church par excellence. It is “handed on” in Baptism to signify the new birth of the children of God into the divine life. The full meaning of the Our Father is revealed in the Eucharist since its petitions are based on the mystery of salvation already accomplished, petitions that will be fully heard at the coming of the Lord. The Our Father is an integral part of the Liturgy of the Hours” (Compendium of Catechism #581).

Just as in the Lord’s Prayer, every father is an anchor of the family providing life and faith. Without a father’s figure, a person would be incomplete because a father is an integral part of one’s development and maturity. May God bless all of our fathers the wisdom to discern the right from wrong and the courage to express them when necessary. May you be well each day and find joy and happiness in the midst of all endeavors.

Congratulations to the Eight Grade Class of 2013

Last Friday, our CCS’s eight graders, the class of 2013, graduated from our school. We began the day with the celebration of the Eucharist in the morning and the commencement graduation in the evening. Every year we are blessed by our students’ graduation; I am grateful to the parents for all their sacrifices and love; nurturing and support. Our school faculty and staff have been tremendous educators for our 8th graders. They provide wonderful role models through their creativity yet challenging for our students. On behalf of our parish, I wish all our graduates a wonderful and faith-filled journey. May your new encounter and experiences in high school be filled with hope and excitement. May you keep the flame of faith alive in your heart and pray daily as our school has instilled in you the Catholic Tradition of prayer and service.

Revival of One’s Faith

Last Sunday, I shared with you the verb “to revive” in my homily. To revive in Latin is “revivere” which is to live again. To revive has several meanings: to bring again to life, to recover life or strength, or to recover from a state of neglect.

To live again is the heart of revival. In the Protestant church, we often here of the expression “revival ministry” or “revival church.” The word “revival” is not a common word in our Catholic Tradition. The words we are familiar with are “renewal or restoration.”

I asked these questions: How do we revive our faith if it is dead? How do we revive our parish if it is dead? How do we revive our Catholic school if it is dead? During the last 10 years of the sexual clergy abuse with minors, our Catholic Church in the United States is in a revival mode. We are striving to live again and renewing our church with accountability and protection of God’s children.

“In every revival there is a re-emphasis of the Church's missionary character. Men return to Calvary, and the world is seen afresh through the eyes of Christ. The infinite compassion of Christ fills the heart, and the passion evoked by Calvary demands the whole wide world as the fruit of His sacrifice” (John Shearer – a Protestant pastor).

As a Catholic Church, our church leaders as ordained or non-ordained ministers, especially the bishops and priests, are called to revive or renew our Church’s character and mission. Please keep all of us in your daily prayers during this revival period of our Church.

Have a blessed week ahead. May your Father’s Day celebration be joyous and thankful of God’s blessing.

SUNDAY, 5:00PM MASS WILL BE DISCONTINUED EFFECTIVE JUNE 30, 2013

Thank you for your par cipa on in the life of our parish. May God bless you with peace and happiness.

Treasures from our tradition June is the month most associated with weddings in the United States. Wedding celebrations always require some savvy planning, and people who have a talent for hospitality in the mix. At the wedding feast at Cana, the mother of Jesus was recruited to deal with some of the details of the banquet, and when a very understandable crisis arose, she did what she could to rescue the party. Anyone who has ever run out of ice, dessert, or table settings knows the stress!

Slowly, the memory of Jesus Christ's blessing of this marriage feast led the Church to form a way to bless marriages. A thousand years ago weddings migrated from the family home to the doors of the church, where the celebration was held in public view. From this practice came a prayer called the "Nuptial Blessing," one of the most solemn prayers in our tradition. It is very much like the prayers by which baptismal water and chrism are consecrated, the ordination prayer over a priest, and the Eucharistic Prayers over bread and wine. Four hundred fifty years ago, weddings moved inside the church building. All of this gives married couples good reason to celebrate their anniversaries well, especially with the clinking of glasses filled with good wine. James Field, Copyright (c) J. S. Paluch Co.
