It takes many hands to prepare for Christmas – Thank-you! Many thanks to everyone who contributed to having our Parish celebrate our Christian faith with much devotion over Christmas. A special thanks for the generosity and the dedication of the Parishioners who led us in the singing at the Christmas Masses; to the children who participated in the 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. Gospel re-enactments, and to their parents who helped them prepare; and to all those who helped decorate the Church on the Fourth Sunday of Advent. Thanks also to all those involved in the Christmas liturgies for supporting a third Christmas Mass this year at 5 p.m. on Christmas Eve. Both the 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. Masses were packed, so the additional Mass was definitely needed. What a great deal of generosity was demonstrated by parishioners in the lead-up to Christmas as well! Many people participated in the Guignolée to collect food and funds for St. Vincent de Paul; the Giving Tree brought in a great number of articles which were distributed at our Celebration of Love dinner. And many people brought their talents together to put on a beautiful dinner for people in our community who might not otherwise have had a Christmas dinner on December 20th. On behalf of all those who benefited from this generosity, thank-you! Join other adults in an Adult Faith Formation series at St. Mark’s starting Tuesday, January 13 Due to the popularity of our last DVD series by Father Robert Barron, "Catholicism”, we are presenting another of Father Barron’s DVD series: "Priest, Prophet, King". Everyone is invited to attend these interactive video sessions running every Tuesday evening from January 13 to February 10 on the stage in the Parish Hall, from 7:00-8:30 pm.

Week of Prayer for Christian Unity Fr. Dan represents our diocese on the Christian Council of the Capital Area. Last year, St. Mark’s hosted the service for the Council’s Week of Prayer for Christian Unity. This year, the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity Service of the Christian Council of the Capital Area will be held on Sunday, 25 January 2015, 4 p.m., at St. George and St. Anthony Coptic Orthodox Church, 1081 Cadboro Road, Ottawa. All are welcome! Baptism Preparation Sessions Coming Up The preparation for Baptism includes sessions on three consecutive Tuesday evenings. The next session begins on January 27th with the Baptisms to be celebrated on February 15th. Please share this information with friends and family members who might want to join us in these sessions. January 17th is the ‘Snowflake Ball’ – another event planned by our Social Events Committee Come join us on Saturday, January 17th at 7:00 p.m. in the Parish Hall for an adult-only semi-formal to formal wear evening of music, dancing and fellowship. Bring your own drinks and finger foods to share! A goodwill donation to offset the cost of the evening would be appreciated but is not mandatory. Church Envelopes for 2015 The Sunday collection is the main source of revenue for the Parish. Some people use church envelopes so that they can get tax receipts for their donations. The church envelopes for 2015 are now available in the vesting room. If you do not find your box, please let us know! This is also an occasion to update our parish records. In the box of envelopes, you will find a blue form which we invite you to complete. You may either return the form in the collection basket, or e-mail the information to [email protected]. Thanks for your help! A Warm Welcome to New Parishioners! Welcome to those who want to make their “faith-home” here with us. You may be new to Aylmer, or you may have been ‘away for a while’. Be assured that we love to have you among us! It would be appreciated if you introduced yourself to one of our hospitality ministers, or to Fr. Dan. It would also help if you could take the time to fill out a registration form, which you can get from a hospitality minister. The next time you are with us, you can drop off the registration form in the collection basket, give it to one of the hospitality ministers, or to the priest. We serve refreshments in the church hall after Mass every first and third Sunday of the month – this would be an excellent opportunity to introduce yourself. That is also a challenge to our regular parishioners: They are there to welcome you!

Prayers for the Sick Kindly remember Marie McFadden, Vern Gillespie, David Hendricks, Liam Harkim Elder, Christina Bradford and Kevin Jaques and their families in your prayers. Prayers and Sympathies Our prayers and sympathies are extended to the family and friends of Sherrie Brown.

Workshop On-line option for the weekly collection In a time when many of us use our plastic to pay for everything from our daily coffee to our weekly groceries and gas, it's often hard to remember to bring cash to drop in the collection basket. Not intentionally, of course, it’s just that many of us are not used to carrying cash anymore. We attend Mass, the collection basket comes around and we tell ourselves we will double it next week. Would you like to never have to worry about having cash on hand to drop into the collection basket? We have the perfect solution that’s a win/win for you and the parish:

This service is being offered by the Archdiocese of Gatineau, which is absorbing all processing fees and, therefore, 100% of your donation is forwarded to our Parish. The service allows you to make donations and Mass intentions; select a one-time donation or set up a monthly donation. Payment options include cheque, credit card or automated withdrawals from your bank account. See the on-line giving symbol on our parish web site (stmarkaylmer.ca) or visit the diocese website at https://www.imakeanonlinedonation.org/diocesegatineau and follow the simple instructions, complete the required fields and submit your request. You will receive confirmation of your transaction and you will have peace of mind knowing that your gifts contribute to support and maintain the services offered by your Parish. And since you no longer require the parish envelopes, please let the parish office know as this will reduce time, effort and cost for the printing and preparation of the envelopes.
