 Brittney Smith and Sydney Tremain received a PLATINUM Award at our assembly last Friday. Four stu‐dents have now been presented with a Platinum Certificate which entitles them to a “Big Day Out”. Joseph McClure was awarded a GOLD Certificate. 32 students have received a Gold Certificate.

Congratulations Harry Blatch, Joseph McClure, Harry Giblett and Lachlan Blatch for receiving a CREDIT in the Australian Mathematics Competition. Students at our school were awarded 4 Credits, 10 Proficiency and 6 Participation certifi‐cates.       We are excited about meeting a “Bronze Medallist” from the 2008 Olympics. Amy Hetzel (Water Polo) will visit our school on 26th October to talk to the students and give a presentation. Parents are in‐vited to attend and meet Amy during her short visit. An assembly will be held in our school library commencing about 2:30 pm.   Student Voting for our 2012 Senior     Captains and our Primary Captains will be held on Friday 11th November.   It has come to our attention that secon‐dary students are using electronic de‐vices at school. There seems to be some confusion about the rules and I will meet with teachers to review our policy. At present electronic devices such as MP3 players and I‐pods are not to be used in the classroom or in the playground. Stu‐dents travelling on buses may bring them to school secured in their bag. The school is not responsible for the loss or any damage to these items. It is recom‐mended that students do not bring their electronic devices to school. Years 11 & 12 students are permitted to use their device in the study only. I will keep par‐ents informed of the staff decision. No tolerance towards mobile phone use at school is still the rule.

I have chanced upon a wonderful list of books. It lists some of the greatest novels ever written, so I thought it would be great to pass it on to all of you. I hope you see something there to inspire you.  

I have chosen “Animal Farm” to read to Years 5/6 as we have looked at a number of political events this year. We began by talking about “communism” and “democracy” and how they differ.   

We particularly looked at the extreme prin‐ciples of communism, what they preach and the reality of it being possible. It is go‐ing to be interesting to have a similar
