1. Describe the demographic profile of
the collectors and traders
2. Describe the history of collection and
trading
3. Estimate the volume of collected and
traded abalone in:
– Bgy Tagburos, Puerto Princesa City,
– Johnson Island
– Green Island, Roxas, Palawan.

COLLECTION PROFILE
Collectors – 37 individuals in JI
– 21 individuals in GI
– 32 individuals in TS
• Almost all were males (96.67%)
• 21-30 years old (56.67%)
Educational attainment – elementary (56.67%)
– high school (41.11%)

• TS - started in 1990
• JI – 1999
• GI - 2005

• Majority was female (64.71%)
• married

– medium (6.35 - 6.59 cm) - Php 470/kg
– small (4.80 – 6.34 cm) - Php 440/kg
• Fresh:
– large (6.35 cm and above) - Php 320/kg
– small (4.80 – 6.34 cm) -Php 200/kg

CONCLUSION
• There are indications that the collection and trading of abalone Haliotis asinina in Puerto Princesa City and Roxas Palawan has reached crucial level with decreasing catch per unit effort.
RECOMMENDATIONS
• Establishment of closed seasons for abalone collection
• Dissemination of knowledge on ecology of abalone
– to manage, protect, and conserve abalone population in the wild.
• Production through mariculture
