The mission

to educate qualified human resource that will lay the foundations

• Have the quailities and skills for being a special

education teacher

• First accepted undergraduate students in 1994-1995

Educational Year

• 6 Assistant Professors, 1 instructor and 4 Research Assistent

• Offers undergraduate, MA and PhD programs

• 800 undergraduate, 50 MA and 1 PhD students graduated

since 1998-1999 Educational Year

• In current academic year, 2012-2013, 440 undergraduate,

20 MA and 4 PhD students are registered

• Scientific meetings, conferences, symposiums, seminars and

workshops are organized

In Special Education Programs

• Educational programs should be designed taking the educational

performances of the individuals into consideration; and the

objectives of the program are adapted for the individuals.

• The programs of the regular schools are implemented in special

education; however some modifications should be made.

• The purpose of special education is to help the students with

disabilities to continue their education at regular schools.

• The programs should prepare the individuals with disabilities for

the professional life considering the needs, interests and skills of

the individuals.

• The programs should be based on practice.

• Schools are founded for the individuals who

needs special education.

• Special education classrooms can be founded

for the students with more than one disability.

• The educational programs for the students

with disabilities and their parents are

financially supported by the Ministry of

National Education.

Special education instutions can be founded in

order to

• provide education with the students with

disabilities,

• prepare them for the professional and vocational

life

• improve basic skills of the students with

disabilities who cannot benefit from the special

education schools.

• The students who are able follow the educational

programs with their peers at regular schools can go

to the regular pre-school institutions, primary schools

and secondary schools.

• Self-contained (special) classrooms can be designed

for the students with disabilities and educational

materials are provided for them.

• Special education classroom can also be founded for

the students who needs special education at regular

schools.

For the individuals with disabilities who completed

educational programs or who are over the age of compulsory

education, vocational courses can be organized in order to

• Develop their basic skills,

• Meeting their learning requirements,

• Helping them to adapt to the society,

• Preparing them for the professional life.

The number of participants should be at least 5 and at

maximum 10.

These courses are announced at least two months earlier.

• Regular / Vocational instructional programs are

implemented at Special Education schools and

classrooms.

• Some modifications can be made according to the

characteristics of the students.

• The content can be simplified, modified or enriched.

• Developmental programs for students’ communicative

skills and academic and social skills are planned.

• All instructional programs are prepared by the Ministry of

National Education.
