All email accounts created can be hacked into at any time without any warning, leaving

devastating consequences. But what is email hacking, you may be

asking? This is unauthorized access to your email account, in other

words, ‘breaking into your email account’. In order to strengthen the

security of your email accounts the following tips are furnished. The list is

by no means exhaustive, and more tips are available on the internet.

1. Exercise caution while sending sensitive information by email as

you don’t remain in control of the information contained in an

email after you send it.

2. Always select a strong password for your email account. Your password must include

a combination of letters (uppercase as well as lowercase), numbers, and special

symbols (such as $, @,!, #, *). The length of the password should never be less than

eight characters; preferably it should be 12 characters long or even more. Never use

your own name, user name, company name, date of birth, etc., or any other such

thing that can be easily identified with you, as part of your password. Don’t use

complete words (that can be found in dictionaries) as part of password. Never use

the same password on more than one email accounts or other web

services.

3. Never reply to emails asking for your email password and/or

suspicious emails, so do not accept email (Gmail, Ymail, Hotmail

etc.) invites as hackers put their secondary mails in invites and can

easily know your password by using ‘forgot password option’ and

later get it in their inbox.

4. Don’t access your email account from public computers (such as in a cyber cafe) or

insecure wireless networks. Such public computers are infamous for being infested

with viruses, spyware, keyloggers, etc., which can steal your password as you type it.

Finally: never share your password; use password reset information in your email account

settings; use good security and anti-virus software to take care of spyware programs on

your computer; put up a good secret question that is easy to remember and known only by

you; and the better option is to keep changing password and secret questions to keep

hackers guessing.

AUDIT VIBES!! AUDIT VIBES!! AUDIT VIBES!! AUDIT VIBES!!

Indicator of Fraud continues

Opportunity is generally provided through weaknesses in the internal controls such as inadequate or lack of:

• Supervision and review • Separation of duties

• Management approval • System controls

Pressure can be imposed due to:

• Personal financial problems

• Personal vices such as gambling, drugs, extensive debt, etc. • Unrealistic deadlines and performance goals

Rationalization occurs when the individual develops a justification for their fraudulent

activities. The rationalization varies by case and individual. Some examples include:

• “I really need this money and I’ll put it back when I get my paycheck” • “My job is not paying me enough so if I take this money I am entitle to it” • “Everyone is doing it, so why not me”

• “I just can’t afford to lose everything – my home, car, everything”

stakeholder”
