CLAY FOR KIDSGrades K-3 Thursdays, October 5–264:00–5:30 p.m.At LaLa Gallery, 511 Ferry St.

Join Angela Taylor at LaLa Gallery as she introduces students to a wide range of clay construction methods and glazing techniques. Students will create multiple works of clay art in this exciting, hands-on class!

HOME IS WHERE THE ART ISGrades 2-5Mondays, September 25–November 275:00–6:00 p.m.

Experiment and learn how to use different types of media to express yourself. Artist Ree Smelser will lead a multi-media exploration of the concept of “home” in this eight week class.

CLAY STUDIOGrades 4-8Thursdays, November 2–304:00–5:30 p.m.At LaLa Gallery, 511 Ferry St.

Young artists will work in a professional clay studio with LaLa Gallery owner Angela Taylor. This class offers expanded ideas for the construction and decoration of clay objects.

MURAL APPRENTICEGrades 7-12Tuesdays, September 12–November 7 4:30–6:00 p.m.

Create the next mural for downtown Lafayette with artist Bekki Canine. The Mural Apprentice class will teach students how to plan and paint a large-scale artwork on the exterior of a building.

FOLKSY FIDDLE Grades 4-12Tuesdays, October 3–December 124:00–5:30 p.m.

Never held a violin before? Then this class is for you! Teachers from the Indiana Fiddlers’ Gathering will introduce the basics of violin and fiddle in a group setting with a fun, relaxed atmosphere.

MOUNTAIN DULCIMERGrades 4-12Wednesdays, October 11–December 155:00–6:00 p.m.

Appalachia here we come! Dulcimer teacher Paula Dillard will teach the basics of the mountain dulcimer. This class is a great introduction to string instruments!

BANJO JAMGrades 5–12Tuesdays, October 3–December 124:00–5:30 p.m.

Learn to play the blues-iest instruments around by learning the mechanics, playing by ear, and jamming with other students. Participants will study with the legendary Howie Clark, focusing on Bluegrass, Old-time, and Dixieland music.

POEM TIMEGrades 8–12 Mondays, October 2–December 11 4:30–6:00 p.m.

It’s time to write! This class, facilitated by Professor Charles Kerlin, will lead students to create a portfolio and help express their thoughts–and/or impress a college recruiter. Experiment with writing different types of poems and learn to express yourself through the written word.

Students will perform during the End of Semester Celebration

GUITAR BASICS Grades 5-12 Tuesdays, October 3–December 124:00–5:30 p.m.

Fingers, frets, and strings! This all-acoustic class is a great intro to guitar. Whether you’re looking to rock out on this iconic instrument or strum a simple tune, instructor Sam Hopson will help get you ready to play.
