A History of Innovation - Past & Present

The company was founded in 1839 when John Bradbury Robinson, a retail chemist in Chesterfield, Derbyshire, started a business making pill boxes. 16 years later the business diversified and starting manufacturing surgical dressings to meet the huge demand created by the Crimean War.

Manufactured in the UK

Robinson Healthcare products are produced in our large UK manufacturing facility in Worksop, Nottinghamshire.

This facility has extensive production capabilities for cotton wool based products used in the personal healthcare sector, medical absorbents and licensed veterinary antiseptic dressings.

There are also extensive dry and wet wipe production facilities, benefiting recently from new state of the art machinery.

For medical products - Robinson has large clean room production facilities - with a recent redevelopment to the highest standards with the latest automated packaging systems for the production of sterile products including dressings and a huge range of single use surgical instruments.

This facility is supported by a large team of operational, engineering, quality, warehousing and logistics professionals.

Our philosophy is to stock both raw materials and finished goods in depth, and this, coupled with the fact that we manufacture, means that we can respond very quickly to unexpected customer demand enabling us to offer world class customer service.

Robinson supply a huge range of sterile single use instruments for surgical, gynaecological, podiatry and dental procedures and are a market leader in this sector having pioneered its development over fifteen years ago.

In addition, Robinson supply professional wound dressings, bandages, compression bandaging systems and fixation tapes, medical cotton wool and absorbents including maternity pads, patient and surface wipes, medical examination gloves, hygiene consumables and continence care products.

These products are supplied to doctors, dentists, clinics, hospitals, care and nursing homes and the distributors that support this sector.

Personal healthcare products are supplied to nearly every major retailer and pharmacy in the UK.

Animal Healthcare

Robinson supply a range of animal healthcare products focused on equine application. This includes a range of absorbents, padding, wound dressings and also the UK’s only licensed veterinary antiseptic poultice dressing. This dressing is the gold standard for equine hoof treatment. The manufacturing is supervised and licensed by the Veterinary Medicines Directorate - thus ensuring a safe and high quality product used widely by vets, professional racehorse stables and recreational stables.

Readiwipes® Dry Skin Cleansing WipesReadiwipes® Dry Skin Cleansing Wipes are part of a wider range of wipes which includes wet skin cleansing wipes and wet surface cleansing and decontamination wipes. Readiwipes® Dry products are used mainly for professional and personal skin cleansing - though they are equally well suited for general purpose use. They are used widely in hospitals, nursing homes, care homes and also in the home for personal use, particularly in continence and stoma management.

Readiwipes® Dry are manufactured in the UK using a variety of specially developed non woven materials. The main attribute of these materials is that they retain their strength and integrity when wet - unlike paper tissue which breaks apart once wetted. This means that both solids or liquids can be wiped up with the confidence that the wipe will remain intact and perform its function efficiently. These wipes are also very absorbent and will retain their strength even when saturated.

In addition, paper tissue can be very rough on the skin, particularly when there is repeated cleansing or the skin is in a poor and sensitive condition. Readiwipes® Dry are extremely soft on the skin - both when dry and when wet.

Because these wipes are dry, they can be used as a disposable mini towel to dry the skin after washing - thus saving laundry time and cost. But they can equally be used as a disposable flannel and work well with soap and water for body cleansing.

Readiwipes® Dry are also ideal for the application of skin cleansing, conditioning and protection creams and foams which are widely used for continence management.

The Readiwipes® Dry range of wipes are CE marked and certified as suitable for the treatment and alleviation of medical conditions. They are guaranteed latex free and therefore avoid the risk of allergic reactions and in addition their excellent dermatological profile means they will not irritate the skin.

Although the primary application for Readiwipes® Dry is for patient care, they offer exceptional performance in general cleansing - in particular where wet strength and absorbency is required. They can be used dry, or dampened for dusting, or with a wide range of cleaning fluids and sprays.

Types of WipeReadiwipes® Dry wipes are available in a wide range of materials, sizes and thicknesses.They all have different attributes and are at different price points according to the specification required.

Generally speaking the more material a wipe has in it the more it costs. So if it’s larger or thicker then it will generally cost more than a thinner or smaller wipe. But the material type also makes a difference. Some materials are more absorbent than others. Some have a better cleansing performance and some are softer than others.

To help in selecting the wipe most appropriate to your needs we brand the products in a descriptive way. Each material type is indicated by the wipe name. In ascending order of approximate cost these are:

REGULARAs the name suggests this is our most basic and lightest weight material, which means it is very economical to buy. It is however extremely soft to the touch and surprisingly absorbent and more than strong enough to perform the majority of cleansing tasks. It is available in large size in a 100 wipe pack.

PLUSThis wipe uses a middleweight material and is thicker than the Regular wipe. In addition it benefits from the addition of cotton and viscose for improved strength and absorbency. It is still extremely soft to the touch and has improved absorbency over the Regular product. Readiwipes® Dry - Plus is available in two sizes, a standard size in a 50 wipe pack and large size in a 100 wipe pack.

SUPERAs the name suggests this is a high performance wipe using a heavyweight material with a high cotton and viscose content for strength and absorbency. It has a high degree of opacity and whiteness and can’t be seen through. This wipe is used in high volumes by the NHS for patient cleansing and continence care. It is available in standard, large and extra large sizes, all in 100 wipe packs.

SOFT CLEAN DELUXEAs the name implies, this wipe is extremely soft and gentle and has a very high viscose content to make it an extremely efficient cleanser and absorber. These attributes coupled with its small size and 30 wipe pack make it perfect for stoma management or small area personal cleansing tasks.

SUPER DELUXESuper Deluxe is named after its luxuriously soft material. Its mid heavyweight construction coupled with it high viscose content makes it a fantastic all round wipe. Super soft and gentle, strong, high opacity and whiteness, with high absorbency are all the features that make this wipe an extremely popular choice for general patient hygiene and continence care. It is equally at home being used dry for soil removal or wet as a disposable flannel and afterwards as a mini drying towel. These attributes make the Super Deluxe a great all round wipe. Available in medium and large sizes in 100 wipe packs.

MACERATOR DELUXEThe Macerator Deluxe uses a material that contains 85% natural plant fibres from sustainable sources making this a very ecologically friendly wipe. This construction also means that it has exceptional absorption and is very efficient at lifting and retaining soil. Because it’s made from plant fibres it means that it is suitable for use with healthcare facility macerators. The Macerator Deluxe uses a super heavyweight material for additional strength and security and is suitable for use both wet and dry. It is available in medium and large sizes in 75 wipe packs.

Packaging, Dispensing, Hygiene & Infection ControlThe entire range of Readiwipes® Dry (with the exception of Soft Clean Deluxe) is packed in an extremely convenient cubic shaped pack. The wipes are neatly folded and packed in a very compact way. This makes them very easy to handle, stack and store. In addition, they fit conveniently on a hospital or care home trolley, on a bedside cabinet or work surface.

The compact nature of the wipe also improves the environmental credentials of the product by reducing packaging materials of both the immediate product pack and the outer case. It also means that more can be fitted on a pallet and therefore more can be delivered on a single vehicle thus reducing fuel consumption and emissions.

Access to the pack is easy by simply tearing the pre-perforated pack at the top to create an access flap. The perforations are designed to minimise accidental ripping of the pack. Each wipe is non interleaved and individually Z folded - they can be easily removed one at a time from the pack by holding and gently pulling the wipe by a presented seam. Only one is dispensed at a time and removing a wipe leaves the one below it untouched and clean. The wipe below does not need to be tucked back into the pack. This single dispensing feature is not only convenient and hygienic but is really good for infection control and also reduces wipe wastage and over use.

After dispensing, the packaging access flap is moved back into place to keep the wipes clean until the next use. In addition, the packaging has no pockets or areas for dirt or fluid to accumulate - thus keeping the pack clean.

All of these features give you convenience, hygiene, infection control, low environmental impact and economy in use not offered by competitor products.
