Computer modeling in solid state chemistry and catalysis

AbstractThe current status of solid state bulk and interface modeling is discussed with an

emphasis on the combination of theoretical and experimental results to overcome the future

challenges in energy storage and catalysis. Empirical force field for the modeling of apatites;

Ca10(PO4)6OH2, Ca10(PO4)6F2 and Cd10(PO4)6OH2 based upon transferable potentials was

developed. Force field accuracy is tested by comparing the calculated and experimental values

like bulk modulus and compressibility at high pressures. The description of the interaction

between catalyst surface and reacted molecule is essential to understand surface chemical

reactivity and electrocatalysis process. DFT theory was used to predict the surface reaction and

electocatalytic activity of Graphene-based bimetallic nanoparticles (NPs). The experimental

results matched the expected activity.
