Ryerson’s Expectations & Student’s Responsibility
University expects students to attend classes to learn, & to demonstrate their knowledge in various ways (Exams, and more)
RU Policy - students MUST get a minimum CGPA of 1.67 to graduate
Students have a choice about how and when they study
Students between 1.0 and 1.66 are flagged as Probationary with restrictions and requirements for students taking courses
Policy #46
Stipulates what is acceptable academic performance:
- Grading scales/ Performance designations - Grade Point Averages
- Academic standing- Graduation requirements- Honours standing- Timespan
CGPA PUT YOU ON PROBATION
CGPA Academic Standing Terminology
1.67 - 4.33 Clear1.00 - 1.66 Probationary 0.00 - 0.99 Required to Withdraw
Fact
While on Probation, you must :
• Achieve a TGPA of 1.67 (C- average) or higher
• Meet all terms and conditions of your Probationary Contract
Dropping courses and student fees
• You must drop down to the 4 courses (Full time students) or 2 courses (Part time students) immediately – Sept 18th is last day, after this you will have violated your contract and may be deregistered
• The 100% Refund Drop Date is Friday September 18th, 2015 – Chang has a different deadline – know it if you’re in a Chang School Course
Fiction
● I should already know how to study for university ● Thought all I had to do was pass● The exact same work habits will get a different
result if I take the course again● Once I complete my INC grade(s), I will be back
to a clear standing
Fiction
● I can’t quit now or take a break!
● I have to catch up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!● I can’t change my major now, even if I don’t like it
(or have no motivation to do well in it)
● My friend in another program told me…
Taking Stock – Evaluating Your Situation
1. What went well? 2. What did not go well?3. What outsides of classes, affected you
academically? 4. What are you going to change to allow you to
address your unique situation?
Taking Stock – helpful tool

Strategic Next Steps - Dealing with past INC grades
• Arrange a timeline to complete the course requirements with your instructor right away!
• Incomplete (INC) grades can interfere with the assignment of your true Academic Standing
• Any outstanding work or alternative examination must be completed within three months of the submission of the INC
• If the work is not completed before the deadline, the INC will become a grade of ‘F’
Strategic Next Steps Repeating courses – Consideration Always the most recent grade will replace the previous grade in your CGPA.
- Success in a previously failed course can have the greatest positive effect on your CGPA.
- If the later grade is lower, that lower grade substitutes for the previous grade.
• Both attempts are recorded on your transcript.
Strategic Next Steps Repeating courses – 3 times
• If you fail a required course for the third time, you will be Permanently Withdrawn
• If you fail a course that is PART OF A LIST, YOU ARE IN LUCK!!! You MUST submit a GPA Adjustment Form found at www.ryerson.ca/forms
