Anenlightenedapproachtodealingwithchildren’sdifficulEesThecourse isunique in integraPngbothnondirecPveanddirecPveapproaches toplay therapy.The programme content is based upon the theory and pracPce of humanisPc psychology,parPcularlythatofVirginiaAxline("DibsInSearchofSelf"),andCarlRogersandthegestaltplaytherapyapproachofVioletOaklander. It recognises contribuPonsmadebyothers in the20thcentury such as JohnBowlby,Margaret Lowenfeld,DonaldWinnicoX,Rachel Pinney etc. It alsoplaces importanceon the spiritual aspectofhumandevelopment.OpportuniPes formeditaPonandallformsofcreaPvitywillenrichthecontentsofthecourse.
SynopsisThe lives of children in the present day are highly regulated and controlled. Non-direcPve playtherapy offers a child the opportunity of making choices and taking responsibility for them;expressing him/herself freely; being accepted uncondiPonally; having his/her deepest feelingsrespectedandaccepted. For these reasons theirplay is not interpretedandno judgements aremade.
Suchfreedomsmayonlybeobtainedbytheprovisionofastrongframework.Thereforetheadulttakes responsibility for the safety of the child, themselves and the environment.Within theseconstraints,thechildhascompletefreedomtochoose.Timeboundariesarealsoconsideredtobeimportantthusaddingasenseofsecuritybyadheringtobeginningsandends.InthiswaythePmewithinasessionbecomesPmelessandthechild’simaginaPonissetfreetoexploreandrecreatehis/herexperiencesandtocreateandmakehis/herownworld.
