Create, Compose, Produce

ACDSeeVideo Studio is a simple-to-use video editing software that allows you to combine video and audio clips,captions, transitions, annotations, and voice and screen recordings into videos in a variety of output formats. Youcan customize your video and audio output parameters, and can even then choose to share them directly toYouTube, Facebook, and Twitter.

Creating and Saving ProjectsWhen you first open ACDSee Video Studio, you can begin adding media right away, without opening a new project.After you have finished this project, you may wish to begin a new one without closing the application. This is alsohelpful if you have opened ACDSee Video Studio to a half-finished project, but want a fresh start.

To Create a New Project:

Go to File | New Project.

To Open an Existing Project:

Go to File | Open Project.

To Open a Recent Project:

Go to File | Recent Projects. Select your desired project from the list of the six most recent projects.

To Save a Project:

To save a project, do one of the following:

Go to File | Save Project, enter a name for your project, and press Save.

To save your project under a new name, go to File | Save Project as.... Enter a name and press Save.

Exit ACDSee Video Studio. If you have not already saved, or have made changes since your last save, youwill be asked if you want to save your project. Select Yes, enter a name, and press Save.

Adding and Removing MediaYou can add media from your hard drive to the Library pane, and then place it on the Timeline for editing andproduction.

To Add Media to the Library:

1. To add media to the Library pane, do one of the following:

Go to File | Import media.

Click the Add Media button at the top right of the Library pane.

2. Browse to and select your media, or press CTRL + click to select specific clips, or CTRL + SHIFT+ dragto select multiple clips.

3. Press Open.

You can alsomove multiple tracks from the Library to the Timeline at once by dragging your cursor overthe clips and then dragging them onto the Timeline. Or, you can hold SHIFTwhile selecting the clips anddragging them onto the Timeline.

You can use the Sort drop-down menu to sort your added media by Media Type, Size, Filename, or

Modified Date.

To Add Media to the Timeline:

To add media to the Timeline, do one of the following:

1. Right-click the clip you want to add to the Timeline.

2. SelectAdd to Timeline at Playhead from the context menu. Continue this action for all clips you wouldlike to add.

Or:

1. Select the clip you want to add to the Timeline.

2. Drag it onto your desired location on the Timeline.

To Remove Media from the Library Pane:

To remove media from the Library pane, do one of the following:

Right-click the clip you would like to remove. Select Remove from Library from the context menu.

Select the clip and go to Edit | Remove from Library.

To Remove Media from the Timeline:

You can remove an individual clip by right-clicking it on the Timeline and selecting Delete.

To remove all of the clips on the Timeline, go to Edit | Remove All from Timeline.

Timeline TracksOn the Timeline, you can arrange your media to create and edit your video. Only media on the Timeline will berendered as a video.

Caption Track: All captions that you add via the Captions pane will appear on the Captions Track. Movethe captions to the location you desire by selecting and dragging.

Video Track: All video that you add to the Timeline will appear on the Video Track. Move the videosaround on the Video Track by selecting and dragging.

Audio Tracks: All audio that you add to the Timeline will appear on the Audio Tracks. Move the audio clipsaround on the Audio Tracks by selecting and dragging.

When moving media, you can overlap clips and then release your mouse. The clip will snap to the end ofthe nearest media on the Timeline.

Locking:

You can lock any track to prevent editing or other changes being made to the media on it by pressing the Lock

button. To unlock the track, press the Lock button again.

Using the Timeline ToolbarThe Timeline Toolbar has a number of functions you can use to edit your video.

Zoom in/Zoom out Zoom in to expand theappearance of your trackson the Timeline, allowingfor precision editing.Zoomout to condense theappearance of your trackson the Timeline, to viewyour project in itsentirety.

Undo Use the Undo button toundo your actions.

Redo Use the Redo button torepeat the most recentactions that you undid.

Split Use the Split button todivide one clip into two ormore clips. This allowsyou to insert transitionsand other clips betweentwo scenes.

Select the clip you want tosplit and press the Splitbutton.

Cut Use the Cut button toremoveunwanted clips orsections of clips. (SeeSplit.) You can then pastethemusing the Pastebutton. (See Paste.)

Select the clip you want toremove, then press theCut button.

Copy Use the Copy button toduplicate tracks orsections of tracks. (SeeSplit.) You can then pastethemusing the Pastebutton. (See Paste.)

Select the clip you want tocopy, then press the Copybutton.

Paste Use the Paste button toadd cut or copied clips toyour desired locations onthe Timeline.

After copying or cutting aclip, put the Playheadwhere you want to paste,and press Paste.

find the start of yourselection on the Timeline.Use the Seek to rightselection slider button tofind the end of yourselection on the Timeline.This is useful if you areviewing the Timelinezoomed in, or if you areworking with a largeselection.

Seek to Playhead Use the Seek to Playheadbutton to find thePlayhead on the Timeline.This is useful if you areviewing the Timelinezoomed in.

CUDA GPU acceleration This option will beenabled if your computerhas an NVIDIA graphicscard that supports CUDA.The encoding will beprocessed by your NVIDIAgraphics card, rather thanyour CPU. This will freeyour CPU up to run otherprograms quickly duringthe production processand will acceleraterendering. To producefaster, press CUDA.

Full Screen Displays the preview infull screen.

Copy, Cut, and Paste can also be accessed by right-clicking on the Timeline.

Creating SelectionsYou can produce a section of a video, rather than the entire clip, by creating a segment.

To Create a Selection:

1. With your desired media on the Timeline, pull the green selector to where you want the selection to start.Then pull the red selector to where you want the selection to end.

If the Selection sliders are out of sight, press the Seek to left selection slider button to find the startof your selection. Alternately, press the Seek to right selection slider button to find the end of yourselection.

2. Select File | Produce selection as...

3. Configure your production settings in the Production Wizard.

You can also play your selection by placing the Playhead before your selection on the Timeline.

Adding Captions to Your VideoYou can add captions to your video. This is useful for including information, subtitling, adding comments, andmuch more.

To Add a Caption to Your Video:

1. Click the Captions tab.

2. On the Captions panel, press Add.

3. In the field, type the text you want to add. The text will be added to the Caption Track on the Timeline.Select the Show Caption checkbox to see your caption when you preview your video.

The box on the left of the Text field indicates the time that the text will appear. Move the text on theTimeline as desired.

4. Adjust the Font and Size drop-down menus, as desired.

5. Configure options, such as background color, text alignment, and any bold or italics you want to include.

To bold, italicize, or underline an individual caption, select the text in the Text field and press theBold, Italics, or Underline button(s).

6. On the Timeline, move or extend the caption by clicking and dragging it on the Caption track.

To ensure that your caption cannot be altered by accident, click the Lock icon next to Caption Track.

To Remove a Caption from the Timeline:

To remove a caption from the Timeline, do one of the following:

Right-click the caption on the Timeline and select Delete from the context menu.

On the Captions pane, right-click the caption you want to remove and select Delete or Delete allcaptions.

Adding Voice Recordings to Your VideoYou can record your own voice narration or sounds and incorporate them into your video project by adding them tothe Timeline.

To Make a Recording:

1. Click the Voice tab.

2. On the Voice pane, select your desired recording device from the drop-down menu.

3. From the Property drop-down menu, select your sample rate and bitrate combination.

Sampling describes the data rate of a sound recording. A higher sample rate allows for higherquality sound, however, it also increases the file size. Bitrate determines how much audio data willgo to the speakers per second on playback. A higher bitrate allows for a higher quality sound,however, it also increases the file size.

4. To begin recording, press theRecord button.

5. To stop recording, press theRecord button again.

6. Enter a name for your clip and press Save when prompted.You will find your recorded clip on the Librarypane.

1. On the Library pane, right-click your recorded clip.

2. SelectAdd to Timeline at Playhead. Your voice recording will be added to the Audio Track. You canalso select and drag.

To ensure that your audio clip cannot be altered by accident, click the Lock icon next to Audio Track.

To Remove an Audio Clip from the Timeline:

Right-click the audio clip on the Timeline and select Delete from the context menu.

Adding Audio Control PointsYou can add audio control points to your audio clips on the Timeline to raise and lower the volume at your desiredintervals.

To Raise or Lower the Volume of Your Audio Clip:

1. Add your audio clip to the Timeline.

2. At the beginning of the audio clip on the Timeline, you will see a green dot with a line connecting it toanother green dot at the end of the clip. Select the green line and drag it up to raise the volume, or downto lower the volume.

To Add Audio Control Points to Your Audio Clip:

1. At the location where you would like to add an audio control point, right-click the audio clip and select AddAudio Control Point from the context menu.

2. Continue to add as many audio control points as you desire.

3. Select the audio control point (green dot) and drag up to raise the volumeat that point, or drag down tolower the volume at that point.

Adding Transitions to Your VideoTransitions are visual effects you can add between the end of one clip and the beginning of another. You can usetransitions to indicate changes in your video's narrative.

To Add a Transition:

1. After you have placed two clips on the Timeline, click the Transitions tab.

2. Select the transition you would like to use and drag it to where the two clips meet on the Timeline.

If you add a transition at the end of a single clip, and then try to add the second clip, the transition willonly be visible during the end of the first clip and will not appear at all in the second.

Creating RecordingsYou can record your screen, record with your webcam, and add your recorded clips to the Timeline.

To Record Your Screen:

1. On the Library pane, press the Record Screen button.

2. Configure your desired settings on the Recorder Panel. See the Setting the Recorder Panel Options sectionbelow.

3. Press the Record button.

4. To stop recording, press F10. (To change this keyboard shortcut, see the Hotkeys section in the tablebelow.)

5. In the Save File dialog, enter a name for your recording and press Save.

6. Find your recorded clip on the Library pane.

During Recording:

You can toggle the Pause/Resume button to start and stop your recording.

To save your recording, press the Save button.

To cancel recording, press the Cancel button.

Select the drop-down menu next to the Dimension section, then choose the dimensions of your recording area.When using a dimension other than Full Screen, you can drag the marquee handles to adjust the recording area toyour desired dimensions.

You can also enter a value in the Width and Height fields. Use the Link button to lock or unlock the aspect ratio ofyour recording's dimensions.

Audio recording:

To enable audio recording, toggle the On/Off switch in the Microphone section. Select your audio input device fromthe drop-down menu.

To disable audio recording, toggle the On/Off switch in the Microphone section.

Voice recording:

To enable or disable system audio, toggle the On/Off switch in the System Audio section.

Webcam recording:

To enable webcam recording, toggle the On/Off switch in theWebcam section. Select your device from the drop-down menu.

To disable webcam recording, toggle the On/Off switch in the Webcam section.

You cannot record with a webcam when screen recording is not in progress.

Annotations:

To add annotations to your recording, enable the type of annotation you would like to add, as described in theRecording Options table below. Then do one of the following:

To add the date and time to your recording, go to Tools | Annotations | Add System Time Stamp.

To add a caption to your recording, go to Tools | Annotations | Add Caption.

To add a watermark to your recording, go to Tools | Annotations | Add Watermark.

Recording OptionsTo set the recording options, go to Tools | Options. On the Options dialog, configure the settings as describedbelow.

Record Disable screensaver duringrecording

Temporarily disables your screensaver,which is useful for longer recordings.

Saving Record as Select the file type you want yourrecording to save as.

Output directory You can select the location where youwould like the recorded clip to beplaced.

Prompt when saving file When you have finished recording,ACDSeeVideo Studio checks that youwould like to save it.

Temporarystoragefolder

Temporary files will be stored here by the recorder to assist with the creation ofthe recording. They will be deleted as soon as you save or cancel your recording.To change where the temporary files will be stored, press Browse.

Annotation Configure options for annotations. To add an annotation, go to Tools | Annotations | Add[annotation].

SystemTime Stamp

System Time Stamp Options... Press the System Time StampOptions... button to configure theoptions.

Position: Select a square to indicatewhere on the screen you would like thedate and time to appear.

Text:

Press the Font... button toconfigure the font, size, style, andcolor.Press the Background color...button to choose the backgroundcolor to appear behind your dateand time.For no background color, select theTransparent backgroundcheckbox.

Preview Displays the date and time as it willappear on your recording.

Caption Enter the text for your caption.

Prompt before recording When you press theRecord button,ACDSeeVideo Studio will confirm thecaption you would like to add.

Caption Options... Press the Caption Options... button toconfigure the options.

Position: Select a square to indicatewhere on the screen you would like thecaption to appear.

Text:

Press the Font... button toconfigure the font, size, style, andcolor.

Video Screen record frame rate Select the screen record frame rate todetermine how quickly the picturerefreshes.

Audio Format Select the audio file format you wantyour recording to save as.

Property Select your sample rate and bitratecombination.

Hotkeys You can set keyboard shortcuts for your recording process.

Hotkeys From the list, select the function you would like to assign a hotkey.

Ctrl + Shift + Alt You can select the checkboxes and/oruse the drop-down menu to indicatewhat you want your hotkey(s) to be.

Webcam Configure options for your webcam recording.

Position Select a square to indicate where you would like your webcam recording to appearon your screen recording.

Webcam video size Move the slider to set the size yourwebcam recording will appear on yourscreen recording.

Options and ConfigurationYou can configure options to customize and automate ACDSee Video Studio's functionality.

To Configure Options:

1. Go to Tools | Options.

2. Configure the options as described in the table below.

General tab

Use GPUacceleration

This option will be enabled if yourcomputer has an NVIDIA graphics cardthat supports CUDA. The encoding will beprocessed by your NVIDIA graphics card,rather than your CPU. This will free yourCPU up to run other programs quicklyduring the production process and willaccelerate rendering. Select this option toproduce faster.

Autosave EnableAutosave

This option will automatically save yourprojects as often as you indicate. Whenyou restart ACDSee Video Studio after anunexpected shutdown, it will recover yourproject to its state as of the most recentsave point.

Autosaveinterval ...minute(s)

Indicate how often you would like toautomatically save.

Defaultduration(seconds)

Caption Time Set how long you would like your captionsto last.

Transition Time Set how long you would like yourtransitions to last.

Temporarystoragefolder

The Temporary Storage Folder stores the media you have in theLibrary while you are working on your project. The TemporaryStorage Folder is cleaned up after you save your project, and willempty once you produce the project.

Watermark tab

Enablewatermark

Select this checkbox to include awatermark on your video.

Watermark Browse to find the image you would like touse for your watermark.

Position Select a square to indicate your desiredposition for your watermark on the videoimage.

Opacity Use the slider to change the opacity of yourwatermark. By default, your watermark is100 per cent opaque, which means thatyou cannot see through it. As you reducethe opacity, the watermark becomes moreand more transparent. A watermark withan opacity of zero is completelytransparent.

3. Press OK.

Producing and Sharing Your VideosWhen you have finished editing your project, you can use the Produce and Share function to finalize and distributeyour videos. This final stage of the production process creates an output file based on the media on the Timeline.Themedia on the Timeline and its assigned effects and sequence are what define the results you see in your finalproduct.

The production process allows you to choose video and audio parameters for your output file, as well as the optionof sharing the output to YouTube, Facebook, and Twitter.

You can produce an output file from the entirety of the media on the Timeline or a selection.

To Produce an Output File from All of the Media on the Timeline:

To produce your video, do one of the following:

Press the Produce and Upload button at the top right side of the Timeline.

Go to File | Produce and Upload...

To Produce an Output File from a Selection:

With your selection made on the Timeline, go to File | Produce selection as...

1. In the Production Wizard, select your desired Output format from the drop-down menu.

2. Click the Detailed Settings button to alter additional video and audio parameters, as described in the

table below.

Format Select your output format from the drop-down menu.

VideoParameters

Codec Video codec specifies the type of video data compression you would likeACDSeeVideo Studio to use.

Size Select the video image size.

Bitrate Select the bitrate to determine how much data will go to the screen per secondon playback. A higher bitrate allows for a higher quality picture, however, italso increases the file size.

Framerate

Select the frame rate to determine how quickly the picture refreshes.

AudioParameters

Codec Codec specifies the type of audio data compression you would like ACDSeeVideoStudio to use.

Samplerate

Sampling describes the data rate of a sound recording. A higher sample rateallows for higher quality sound, however it also increases the file size.

Channel From the drop-down menu, select 1 to have the same sound come out of theleft and right speakers, or, 2, to have different sound come out of the leftspeaker versus the right.

Bitrate Select the bitrate to determine how much audio data will go to the speakers persecond on playback. A higher bitrate allows for a higher quality sound,however, it also increases the file size.

3. ClickOK.

4. ClickNext.

5. In the Name field, enter a name for your output file.

6. In the Folder field, use the Browse button to find the folder you want your output file to be placed in.

7. Press Finish. Your video will render.

8. Press Finish to return to ACDSee Video Studio.

To Share to YouTube:

You can upload your video content to YouTube to share privately with friends or publicly with the YouTubecommunity.

1. In the Production Wizard, select Share to YouTube from the Output Type drop-down.

2. Configure your settings as described above, then press Next.

3. In the Name field, enter a name for your output file.

4. In the Folder field, use the Browse button to find the folder you want your output file to be placed in.

5. Press Next.

6. Under Upload Video Information, fill in the fields, as described in the table below.

7. Press Upload. Your video will be uploaded to YouTube as soon as the rendering is complete. If you haveopted to share your video on Facebook or Twitter, they will now open in your browser and prompt you toenter your username and password.

8. Navigate to YouTube.com to see or share your video.

Upload Video Information

Account Enter your YouTube user account name. Your user account name will be stored inthe drop-down menu.

Delete: Deletes your user account name from the drop-down menu.

Password Enter your YouTube account password.

Title Enter a title for your video.

Description Enter a description of your video.

Category From the drop-down menu, select the category you would like your video to belisted under on YouTube.

Tags Enter tags you would like to assign to your video. These tags will help to determinewhen your video shows up in searches on YouTube.

Private checkbox Check the Private checkbox if you want your video to be only visible to you.

Share on Facebookcheckbox

Check the Share to Facebook checkbox if you want to share your video onFacebook. After you have uploaded your video to YouTube, Facebook will open andyou will be prompted to enter your Facebook username and password.

Share on Twittercheckbox

Check the Share to Twitter checkbox if you want to share your video on Twitter.After you have uploaded your video to YouTube, Twitter will open and you will beprompted to enter your Twitter username and password.
