If your AL2216W is having problems, it is very likely that it is a capacitor issue. Here are some signsof bad capacitors:

Note: While some issues may be corrected with a partial capacitor replacement, this is notrecommended. Do all of the capacitors in one shot and you will not have to worry about the problemcoming back a second time.

Schritt 1 — Discharge the old capacitors

If you are uncertain about holdinghigh voltage parts, follow allprovided warnings and usecommon sense. A capacitordischarge tool is STRONGLYRECOMMENDED.

The filter capacitor will hold themost residual charge. Usecaution around this capacitor!

Unplug the monitor and leave itunplugged for 24-48 hours. Wait 5-7 days if you intend to replace thefilter capacitor.

Schritt 2 — Remove the stand

This monitor never came with a hinge cap. If yours has one, snap it off from the marked points.

Remove the stand from the monitor. The 4 screws that have to be removed are marked. Thebottom screws should be removed first, but this can be done in any order.

Schritt 3 — Remove the back of the monitor

Remove 4 fine threaded screws from the back of the monitor. All of these screws are the sametype and length.

This screw is unique and only goes in one place as the thread is different. Set it aside separatelyfrom the other screws.



Schritt 4 — Unlatch the clips (Bottom)

If the monitor has never been serviced, additional force may be required. However, using too muchwill do more harm then good.

A flathead screwdriver will damage the plastic.

On the bottom of the monitor, there are four slots to open the monitor. To release these clips, use aJimmy or flathead screwdriver.

Schritt 5 — Unlatch the clips (Side)

If you are having trouble doing this,a pry tool can help. This issue ismore likely to come up a monitorthat has never been opened.

With the monitor unclipped on thebottom, pull the sides of the monitorup. Do this slowly to avoid damagingthe plastics and LCD.



Schritt 6 — Remove the IEC socket screws

After these screws are removed,the power supply will be exposed.

With the back of the monitor off,remove the 2 screws on the IECpower connector.

Schritt 7 — Remove the video connection screws

If you do not have a nut driver onhand, needlenoose plyers can alsobe used.

Remove the 4 screw pins for thevideo cables from the monitor. Usea 5mm Nut bit/driver to remove thescrew pins from the power supplyshield.



Schritt 8 — Disconnect the backlight cables

Disconnect the CCFL cables from the power supply board.

Schritt 9 — Disconnect the button board

The board does not interfere with disassembly and can be left alone.

Disconnect the flat flex cable that goes to the control board.



Schritt 10 — Remove the power supply shield (Part 1)

Remove the 2 bottom screws that hold the power supply shield to the monitor.

Schritt 11 — Remove the power supply shield (Part 2)

On the right side of the monitor, remove the remaining screws holding the upper shield in place.

Lift the lower plate up while removing the power supply shield to remove it from the monitor. Oncethis is done, you will have access to the power supply.

Removal of the lower shield is not required. However, it will make disassembly easier. To removeit, unclip the plastic tabs on the LCD bezel.



Schritt 12 — Remove the power supply

If you see bulged capacitors, treat the power supply as if the capacitors are holding aresidual charge.

In most cases, the filter capacitor is okay. It MUST be discharged if being replaced. Inaddition, the black screw (Blue marker) is a grounding screw and cannot be lost.

Only lift the power supply board at a slight angle. Lifting it any more then this could result in pin orvideo processing board damage.

If you cannot find the original capacitors, the original parts can be safely substituted.

This capacitor is only used on older power supply boards. If your board has this capacitor, itshould be repalced. However, it can be left alone if it looks okay.

With the power supply shield removed from the monitor, identify the power supply. Along with thelisted capacitors, take note of any others you want to replace (Ex: Inverter coil).

Remove the 4 screws from the power supply. Once this is done, lift up the power supply at a slightangle to clear the chassis mounting holes.



Schritt 13 — (Optional) Capacitor polarity marking

If the PCB is marked to avoid mis-installation, these marks willcome off when exposed to solderflux.

If you are unsure of the position ofthe capacitors, mark the polarity witha permanent marker. If thecapacitors are installedincorrectly, they will explodewhen the monitor is powered on.

Schritt 14 — Add flux to the capacitor leads

If you do not have flux on hand,solder can be used. The flux will bemore difficult to clean if too muchis used.

To prepare the board for capacitorreplacement, put flux or solder onthe existing capacitors. This willmake removal easier.



Schritt 15 — Remove the old capacitors

If you do not have a Helping Hands, be careful not to touch your soldering iron. Try holdingthe board at an angle to make this easier.

While it may be possible to do a partial capacitor replacement, the remaining capacitors will alsofail - do it once and do it correctly. Refer to this guide for soldering tips: Wie manLötverbindungen herstellt und entlötet.

Move in a workspace with ventilation or use a fume extractor. Once in an appropriateworkspace, desolder the old capacitors. Heat one leg up and remove the capacitor. Do this forboth legs.

After removing the capacitors, clean up the old solder. To do this, take a desoldering braid andclean up the solder from the pads. The desoldering braid must be lifted up with your solderingiron.

Schritt 16 — Installing brand new capacitors

Check the capacitor polaritybefore soldering the newcapacitors in. If they are installedincorrectly, they will explode!

Install new capacitors. Put thecorresponding capacitor you areinstalling in the correct hole. Bendthe leads to keep the capacitor fromcoming out.

Schritt 17 — Solder the new capacitors in

Once the polarity is verified, solder the capacitors in. Once soldered, cut the excess lead. Do thisfor all of the capacitors.



To reassemble your device, follow these instructions in reverse order.

Schritt 18 — Clean the flux off of the board

After verifying there are no coldsolder joints, clean the board. Thiscan be cleaned with 91%+Isopropyl or Denatured alcohol.

Schritt 19 — Test the monitor

Put the monitor back together andtest it by giving it a signal. If yourmonitor works, an image should beproduced.
