ACET is a teacher training centre approved by the National Qualifications Authority of Ireland and has over 30 yearsof experience in teacher training.

The courses provide a balanced programme of methodology, classroom resourcing, current theory, cultural exposure andlanguage enrichment. As a teacher of English, you can expect a challenging learning experience which updates andrefreshes your teaching. The course is practical and provides you with new activities, new skills and new techniques.

The Professional Development Courses for Teachers of English aim to meet your professional needs in all aspects ofEnglish language teaching. You have a choice of three courses:

• Refresher Course for Overseas TeachersThis course provides practical activities and ideas to use in your own classroom.

• Teaching Knowledge Test Course (TKT)This course prepares you for the TKT examination with focus on terminology and methodology. Especially suitable for newly-qualified teachers.

• Content and Language Integrated Learning Course (CLIL)This course provides functional, grammatical and lexical components to help you deliver more effective CLIL lessons.

Afternoon Programme

The afternoon sessions complement the academic component of the programme. Through a series of visits to places of historical interest as well as lectures and workshops, you gain an overview of the culture, the history and the education system of Ireland.

The Executive and Professional Course develops the communication skills you need to conduct professional taskswith complete confidence. It is highly interactive and based on extensive use of problem solving, practical role-playsand realistic case studies. The Gold Programme is an interesting language and cultural activities course developed to suit the over-50s age group.ACET offers a special tailor-made programme combining enjoyable language practice while discovering Ireland, and inparticular Cork and its culture. The programme is flexible and aims to suit the needs and interests of the group.

The English course focuses on developing practical communication skills both inside and outside the classroom. In therelaxed and productive atmosphere in class, you develop your skills, increase your vocabulary and become a more confidentspeaker.

The programme includes a full social programme.

ACET arranges placements with suitable companies and you benefit from the opportunity to improve your English and yourcareer prospects, as well as your knowledge and experience. You are placed in a company doing business that iscomplementary to your planned career. The work undertaken during the placement is UNPAID and must be considered aseducational and part of the on-going training programme.

During your stay, you complete evaluationquestionnaires on your homestay or your apartment, which helpus to ensure the highest standards are maintained.

Whether you select the cultural experience of living in ahomestay or the independence of an apartment or a hotel, youcan be sure the highest standards are met.

You can choose from the followingoptions:

Living in an Irish HomeHomestay accommodation is ideal for you if you wish toimmerse yourself in the unique culture of Ireland. Living in anIrish home is an excellent way of improving your English andexperiencing everyday life in Ireland in a welcoming andsupportive environment. You stay in a good residential areaof Cork, close to a bus route. You live in a home we haveselected on the basis of a warm friendly atmosphere andclean comfortable surroundings.

You are accommodated on a half board basis from Monday toFriday and on a full board basis at the weekend. To ensure thatyou practise English, you are the only speaker of yourmother tongue placed in your homestay.

Living Independently in an ACET ApartmentIf you want to be more independent, select one of ourcomfortable modern apartments. The contemporaryapartment complexes are located 10 minutes’ walk from ACETand the city centre.

Living in an International Community in a StudentResidence ApartmentYou can choose to live in a student residence apartment. Youhave a single room in an apartment which you share with otherstudents.
