    Chapter. Te entire details o the events andworkshops along with timing was availableon the website. Te graphical content pre-sent on the website was very innovative andreceived praises rom the management as wellas students and teachers. Te success o Colos-seum was clearly seen through the number ohits recieved on the website and the sponsorssponsoring the estival.

    Lets look at the projects set to release thissemester.

    1ACM DBIT WebsiteTe work on the ACM DBI Website is

    going on or the last six months Te website

    will be used to students help students selectevents, seminars and workshops to be heldduring the current semester. Te website willalso have resources related to basic tutorialsand sotwares required to view content

    2ACM Registration SoftwareTe ACM Registration sotware is coming

    out in two dierent versions, one or online useand one oine. Te sotware shall eliminate

    the ineective registeration system using penand paper. It will also be able to eliminateerrors and provide a better documentablemember list.

    3ACM Feedback SoftwareSimilar to the ACM Registration sotware

    the Feedback sotware will also come in twoversions, online and oine. Te eedbacksotware will be used during events, seminar

    will be updated with the activities o ACM

    53 students rom the computer engineeringattended the global certication or the IBMDB 2 conducted by IBM Academic Initiative43 students got internationally certied. Ms

    Nandita Rane was the in charge o the event.Te training and certication was absolutelyree. We thank the System Administrator, MrGuna Shekhar or his relentless eorts.

    57 students were trained on the Adobe Flexechnology. All the students appeared or theinternational certifcation. Te trainer or theevent was Ms Shainila Mulla.

    96 Students took training or the OracleCertication Program and Sun Java in thevacation. A workshop on Hacking Hacknexwas held, attended by students o Don Boscoand rom Engineering Colleges o MumbaiUniversity.

    ACM Chapter o Computer Engineeringdepartment o DBI is a vibrant team ocused

    to bring the technological breakthroughs inthe orm o workshops, seminars, and onlinetechnical events. I congratulate the core com-mittee members or their eorts and wish them

    best luck or the coming term.Te Principal Dr N.G. Joag, has been a

    continuous source o encouragement. Te Re-search director Dr. Krishnamoorthy has been a

    catalytic agent in injecting quality in all teach-ing learning initiatives. We thank the Dean

    Microsot Week was conductedin the month o April 2010 inassociation o ACM DBI Chap-

    ter. Mr. Abhay Parekh rom Microsot India

    was present or the entire event.Te event started on 5th April. Mr.

    Abhay Parekh delivered sessions on thelatest technologies rom the Microsot Cor-

    poration. Tese sessions were held rom5th to 7th April. Students enthusiasticallyparticipated in all the sessions. Te sessionsincluded the ollowing topics:

    was very much appreciated by the studentcommunity.

    Following the seminars, a line o work-shops were conducted in the same week.

    Te workshops were held in college rom9th to 20th April. Tey were taken by a ewselected students rom E and BE.

    Te workshop was conducted on theollowing topics:

    1. Microsot Ofce 2010Features like ribbons, ofce button

    options, outlook improvements, photo/video/graphics in word and PowerPoint,Protected View were explained very well inthe workshop. Special emphasis was givenon Word and PowerPoint since it is mostrequently used by the student community.

    2. SQL Server 2008A discussion o what SQL Server is, the

    architecture, the relational engine, the pro-tocol layer, data storage, buer manage-ment, logging, transaction, concurrencyand locking, data retrieval,various services,history, editions, and programmability wasdone in the workshop.

    3. Windows 7Te workshop was aimed in explaining

    the students about all the new eatures like

    speech and handwriting recognition, aeroshake, god mode, aero snap, improved se-curity using Bit Locker, support or virtualhard disks, Virtual PC, all new paint andword pad etc.

    4. XNA Game StudioMicrosot XNA is a set o tools with a

    managed runtime environment that a-cilitates computer game development andmanagement. A 3-D animated Aircrat wasdeveloped in the workshop which could be

    controlled with thekeyboard.

    5. ExpressionStudio

    Microsot Ex-pression Studiois a suite o toolsor designing andbuilding web and

    PC Assembly &Troubleshooting

    PC Assemblling, asthe name says meansassembling a personal computerrom scratch. In the workshop aPC was assembled and shown tothe students. Various componentsinside the CPU were shown andexplained while assembling. Allthe doubts that students had wereanswered.

    In troubleshooting, commonproblems in computer like nopower, no sound, problem withthe display, network troubleshoot-ing, problems while connectingmedia devices, printers, scanners,etc. were explained. Also variousoptions in control panel, tuning upthe computer were explained tothe students.

    Adobe Flex is a sot-ware developmentkit (SDK) released byAdobe Systems or thedevelopment and deployment ocross-platorm rich Internet appli-cations based on the Adobe Flashplatorm. Flex applications can bewritten using Adobe Flash Builderor by using the reely available Flexcompiler rom Adobe.

    Review on Adobe Flex 3:

    The workshop was very good. Thesotware is very well developed byAdobe Corporation. I would de-nitely use this sotware or my BEProject. I understand that the entiresotwares eatures cannot be ex-plained or taught in one workshop,hence I wish ACM DBIT Chaptercomes up with another workshopon Flex. Very nicely explained. Theworkshop was very useul.

    The seminar on GRE threw lighton how to register or the test, thecurrent pattern o the test, the sec-tions in GRE, how to prepare or thetest, the universities abroad, how

    to write the Statement o Purpose(SOP), the Letter o Recommenda-tion (LOR), etc.

    A very inormative seminar. Theentire process right rom the reg-istration till the admission processwas very well explained. Gettinga rst hand experience rom theperson who has gone through theentire procedure o GRE is verymuch appreciated.

    Everyone comesacross computers andlaptops tted with the best hard-ware and sotware components.

    The cost o a real high end machineis oten to much but the real ques-tion is whether a machine capableo delivering such power can bemade at an afordable budget.

    In the workshop, concepts like

    hardware component matching,matching clock speeds, etc. werecovered. The workshop also coverdtopics like memory requirementand cost reduction.

    with the Departmental Magazine or the rsttime. Tis magazine contains the details othe computer department. Te technical ar-ticles are prepared with an artistic eel to it.Te inormation is provided in simple english.

    Te nal year students are having a dedicatedcolumn to remember each other with theirname and photograph. Te magazine alsoeatures the class photographs o all the classes.Te magazine was prepared by the students othe second and third year o the ComputerDepartment.
