    ‘Coastal Scene’

    By Eleonora

    Tully

I created this ‘Coastal Scene’ as a

    contribution for ‘International Yarn

Bombing Day 2019’ to be held in Trivento,

    Italy on 9th – 10th August. I used various

yarns which I already had in my stash and

wanted my yarn bomb to reflect ‘Coastal

Crochet’! It can of course be used as a little

    baby blanket… enjoy!

    Materials:

You can use a variety of yarns for this project, I used:

Stylecraft ‘Special Aran’ 100% acrylic yarn for the basic coastal scene from the pebbles to

    sand, sea and sky,

Marriner’s Mermaid’ DK for the edging,

Various other yarns were used for the motifs to build up the beach scene,

I used a 5.5mm hook but use a hook to suit your own tension and yarn used,

    Yarn needle and scissors.

Tension: Tension is not important for this project. Use a hook size and yarn that you are

comfortable with and gives results that you like!

Abbreviations and Stitches: UK Crochet Terminology is used

    ch - chain

    ch-sp - chain space

    cm - centimetres,

    dc - double crochet

dc2tog: double crochet 2 stitches together

    dtr: double treble

dtr7tog: double treble 7 together (see below)

    htr: half treble

    mm - millimetres

RdtrF: Raised double treble Front (see below)

    RS - right side

    ss - slip stitch

    st(s) - stitch(es)

    tr - treble

    WS: wrong side

dtr7tog: double treble 7 together: Wrap yarn around hook twice, insert hook into stitch, yarn

over hook and pull through (you will now have 4 loops on the hook), yarn over hook, pull through 2

loops, yarn over hook again and pull though 2 loops (you will now have 2 loops on the hook),

repeat from the start 6 more times (each time you will gain an extra loop), at the end you will have

8 loops on the hook, yarn over hook and pull through all the loops on the hook.

RdtrF: Raised double treble Front: complete a double treble st as normal but insert hook around

the stem of the next st inserting hook from right to left going from the front to the back and then

    round to the front again.

Pattern Notes: The basic coastal scene is created beginning with the pebbles, then to sand, sea

and finally sky. Individual motifs are then crocheted and appliquéd onto the basic scene to build up

a picture. Be creative and add as much or as little as you like.
