Dear Sisters and Brothers in the Lord, Welcome to Sacred Heart Church!

I rejoice in your presence with our worshiping community as we celebrate our Eucharistic Liturgy for the 23rd Sunday in Ordinary Time. We are blessed

through your prayerful participation. May the Risen Lord nurture your faith and lift your spirit as the Word of God is proclaimed and the Bread of Life is shared. As many of you know, next September our Archdiocese will host the “World Meeting of Families” in Philadelphia. This is an international event concerning our Catholic vision of marriage and family. The theme for this gathering is “Love is our Mission.” In the coming months, at Sacred Heart, we will be connecting some activities with the suggestion that families participate as family. In a recent staff meeting we decided to recommend to you that families come to Church as a family on the third Sunday of each month. Knowing this is not always easy, because of a variety of schedules within families, we are asking families to make a special effort on the third Sunday to worship as a family. Thus, I invite the families of Sacred Heart to worship as a family on the weekend of September 20-21. There will be refreshments for all after the Sunday Liturgies in Everett Hall. Beginning next weekend, and continuing until the “World Meeting of Families” in September 2015, a Prayer for Families will be recited before each Mass. Don’t forget ...next Sunday, September 14, is our Parish Picnic, Red and White Day! You and your family are invited to join the Parish community for this fun day. Check today’s bulletin for time and activities planned, along with a food menu to delight your taste buds. Next Saturday, at the 5:00pm Vigil Mass, Rev. Steve Curry, OSA, will be joining us for the first time as Celebrant. Fr. Curry recently returned to our area to teach at Villanova University. He is from Collingdale. Fr. Curry will be celebrating Mass twice a month, once on Saturday and once on a Sunday. Over the past few years, Rev. John Nordeman had celebrated a Saturday Vigil Mass once a month. As a new Pastor, Fr. Nordeman is no longer able to help out. Fr. Curry has accepted my invitation to give the Vigil Mass worshipers another celebrant other than me and to be a helper on a Sunday each month. I am grateful! I hope all my “Wildcat” friends (I have a few) will take note of my invitation to an Augustinian Priest, teaching at Villanova University, to join us at Sacred Heart. It just goes to show you that “Hawks” are ecumenical! Welcome, Fr. Curry!! Peace be with you! God bless,

Fr. McKee

THE EUCHARISTIC PRAYER Next to the Liturgy of the Word, the Eucharistic Prayer is the longest

portion of the Mass. It includes the presentation of gifts, the preparation of the gifts, the words of insti-tution, the Our Father, the sign of peace, and then the sharing of the Eucharist itself.

The gifts of bread and wine are brought up by someone in the congregation, symbolizing the fact that these gifts are from God for all of us. When the celebrant places the gifts on the altar, he prays a simple prayer over the gifts, one that echoes Jew-ish blessings. First over the bread: Blessed are you, Lord, God of all creation. Through your goodness we have this bread to offer, which earth has given and human hands have made. It will become for us the bread of life.
