    8/21

    1 Overview

    1.1 Presentation

The purpose of this method is to activate E-GPRS on a per BSS basis. Froma radio interface point of view, E-GPRS means the introduction on the radiointerface of new modulation and coding schema which will improve the datathroughput for packet-switched traffic.

In the following table the new modulation and coding schema are listed with thecorresponding throughput:

Schema Modulation Maximum Rate [kbps]per Radio TS

    MCS-1 GMSK 8.8

    MCS-2 GMSK 11.2

    MCS-3 GMSK 14.8

    MCS-4 GMSK 17.6

    MCS-5 8-PSK 22.4

    MCS-6 8-PSK 29.6

    MCS-7 8-PSK 44.8

    MCS-8 8-PSK 54.4

    MCS-9 8-PSK 59.2

To improve GPRS traffic on the radio interface, two new coding schemaswere introduced:

Schema Maximum Rate [kbps] per RadioTS

    CS3 14.4

    CS4 20

These two new optional features are available from the OMC-R only if theOperator bought them.

    1.1.1 Cases

    The following case applies:

    C1: Multi GPU BSS.

    1.1.2 Options

    The following option applies:

O1: Modify the coding scheme on the radio interface for GPRS(Max_GPRS_CS)

    1.2.1 Prerequisites

    The following prerequisites apply:

The MFS and the BSC are already associated

The link between the OMC-R and MFS is available in both directions

The BSS and the MFS are in service

The Ater Mux interface is already configured to support GPRS

    The Gb interface is configured

The hardware supporting HSDS is already deployed (G4 TREs and SUMA

board for secondary Abis)In all the cells where you want to activate E-GPRS, there is at least one

G4 TRE (inside A9100 BTS or inside A9110-E)

The NExtraAbisTS is correctly set for each BTS. If NExtraAbisTS is not

already defined, during this scenario it is mandatory to define it.
