The most active treatment innovation from the skin health experts

Today, more than ever, the desire to reverse the signs of ageing and achieve luminous skin has found its way to the top of the priority list. However, our modern lifestyle has prevented us from investing enough time in professional skin treatments that deliver these results.

Introducing Active Resurface 35; an advanced 45-minute resurfacing treatment that utilises a cocktail of the most advanced cosmeceutical ingredients available in today’s innovative skin care arena.

“With the myriad of environmental aggressors we face every day such as air and water pollutants, UV damage and exposure to thousands of chemicals, the need for regular skin treatments, in combination with a customised at-home care regime is absolutely critical for optimum skin health.”- Dr Diana Howard, Vice President of Research and Development, Dermalogica

As the professional skin therapist’s choice worldwide, Dermalogica has an unrivalled reputation within the skin care industry and continues to be an innovative leader – not only with its formulations, but within the professional treatment room.

Skin care professionals recognise exfoliation as one of the most effective treatments for addressing major skin care concerns. With maturity, our skin’s natural desquamation process slows, causing a build-up of dead corneocytes at the skin’s surface. This decrease in cell turnover is also accompanied by a slowdown in the cell renewal rate.

The Active Resurface 35 is a professional skin treatment completely customised to the needs of your individual skin, providing intense resurfacing to stimulate cell renewal and cell turnover while helping to treat the following skin concerns:

• Premature ageing/sun damage/fine lines• Pigmentation/uneven skin tone• Dehydration• Congestion• Dryness/flakiness

The hero formulation within the Active Resurface 35 treatment is Exfoliant Accelerator 35. This AHA-BHA concentrate contains the highly active skin-smoothing ingredients of Lactic Acid and Salicylic Acid, along with a complex of proteolytic enzymes and peptides to boost exfoliation and result in ultra-smooth skin. In combination with Dermalogica’s professional exfoliation options (described overleaf), significant results are visible after one treatment experience.

how it works

In line with Dermalogica’s ‘no cookie cutter’ approach to professional skin treatments, Active Resurface 35 can be tailored to focus on your specific skin care concerns as well as customised to a level that suits your skin type and skin health. By utilising Dermalogica’s unique Face Mapping® skin analysis technique along with a thorough professional consultation, all aspects of the treatment may be modified to target each individual client’s skin concerns.A unique benefit of the Active Resurface 35 treatment is the lack of inflammation, tissue damage and peeling generally associated with intense resurfacing treatments. As a result, an interval of only one week is all that is necessary between appointments when partaking in a six-course treatment plan.

the treatment

Treatment time: 45-minutesTreatment plan: Results are visible after just one Active Resurface 35 treatment experience, however a course of six treatments with an interval of one week at a time is recommended for maximum results.

about Dermalogica

Dermalogica is the skin care system researched and developed by The International Dermal Institute. Known worldwide as the professionals choice, Dermalogica leads the industry by creating innovative products which conventional manufacturers would never attempt to formulate. As a company driven by research and education, Dermalogica initiates development of a product prior to industry or consumer trends. Dermalogica’s advanced research into new ingredient and product formulation technologies, paired with an intimate knowledge of the needs of the skin allows the company to develop definitive products and treatment well ahead of the consumer curve. As a result, Dermalogica’s products address skin concerns and achieve exceptional results in a minimum of time.

There are three different options of exfoliation which can be further personalised: Power Active Option, that accelerates to the Intensive Active Option and then reaches to the Ultimate Active Option – the height of professional exfoliation. In each option the therapist will combine the prescriptive treatment using Exfoliant Accelerator 35 with other Dermalogica exfoliating products to achieve a truly synergistic effect.

The results lie within the synergy of cosmeceutical ingredients.

“Dermalogica does not rely upon one form of ‘active’ ingredient, but rather a synergy of ‘actives’ to achieve maximum results utilising a combination of cosmeceutical botanicals, alpha hydroxy acids (AHA’s) and beta hydroxy acids (BHA’s) – always with skin health as a priority.”- Sally Penford, Education Manager UK

ingredient benefit

Lactic Acid an alpha hydroxy acid that smooths and retexturises

Salicylic Acida beta hydroxy acid and keratolyic agent that helps dissolve the glue-like matrix holding the stratum corneum cells together and optimises exfoliation of skin cells

Hexanoyl Dipeptide-3 Norleucine Acetate

an encapsulated peptide that competes with the two natural proteins that contribute to the desmosome connection between cells, therefore weakening the snap-like connection and facilitating cell-sloughing

Protease Enzyme/Aminopeptidase/Bacillus Ferment

a source of bacterial protease enzymes that help loosen cell cohesion while stimulating digestion of keratin protein in the epidermis

Galactoarabiana complex sugar molecule that stimulates skin’s natural exfoliation process while enhancing AHA-induced exfoliation

Retinol (pure form of Vitamin A)a viscous liquid insoluble in water and used for its skin-regenerating properties to reverse the signs of photo-ageing in the skin

Ascorbyl Palmitate (Vitamin C) and Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E)

improves skin softness and helps control damage caused by free radicals

Hyaluronic Acid and GAG’sglycosaminoglycans that hold up to 1,000 times their own weight in water to optimally hydrate the skin

Salix Alba (Willow) Bark an anti-inflammatory that helps clear congestion

Olea Europaea (Olive) Leafa water soluble extract rich in antioxidant polyphenols that help fight free radical damage and control environmental aggressions

consultationThe Face Mapping® Consultation Card is a very useful component of every treatment and is especially important when exfoliation is to be performed. All clients wishing to receive an Active Resurface 35 treatment must complete a Consultation Card prior to product application.

When performing the Face Mapping® skin analysis, pay special attention to:

• All Zones – dehydration, impaired barrier function, general sensitivity• Zones 5, 9 – barrier function, sensitivity, thin delicate skin, erythema• Zones 7, 11, 13 – no broken skin, check for allergies or recent colds• Zone 14 – erythema, hot spots, sensitivity

professional skin therapist’s please note: In the Active Resurface 35 treatment options we highly recommend the use of the suggested electrical modalities to achieve the optimum results.

With any professional exfoliation or treatment incorporating electrical modalities, you should never leave your client unattended in the treatment room (even if the exfoliant you have chosen is considered mild or the machine is pre-programmed and fully automated).

Continually assess the client’s skin throughout the exfoliation step of the treatment and ask for feedback regarding sensations experienced. Do not leave your client unattended while theprofessional exfoliant is on the skin. Remove immediately if discomfort or irritation is severe.

information to share with your client:During or after resurfacing, the client may experience slight tingling, mild itching and some temporary skin redness; these are normal reactions to highly active exfoliants and should be expected. There may be some residual skin peeling.
