If you have any questions come and see me in the EUSA office or email me at: [email protected].

As well as being a big campaigning organisation it is also the home to student activities – that includes societies, volunteering and loads more! Getting involved with any of these is an easy way to learn new skills, meet new people with the same interests as you and have fun!

There are around 240 societies at the University of Edinburgh as well as lots of student groups, so there is sure to be something that interests you. Societies hold regular events and socials and are great for forming communities and support networks away from home. Before you know it you might be helping the committee to run the group!

If you’d like to try your hand at volunteering, you can search our database of hundreds of local opportunities, join one of the Volunteering Groups that already exists, or start your own! Alternatively, if charity fundraising is more your thing, Edinburgh Students’ Charities Appeal (ESCA) organises all sorts of amazing fundraising activities including charity hitchhikes across Europe! You’ll find plenty of ways you can put your time and skills to good use by helping out in the local community and beyond.

Make sure you visit the Activities and Sports Fairs, on the Wednesday and Thursday of Freshers’ Week at Pleasance, to check out all the society, sport and volunteering opportunities on offer.

Whilst Freshers’ Week is an exciting time try not to overdo it – you can join a society or volunteering group at any point during the year and our other activities aren’t going anywhere either! Do what you can and feel free to pop by the Advice Place in Potterrow if you’re feeling overwhelmed.

EUSA CAMPAIGNSTANDEM

Tandem is EUSA’s free language exchange programme, designed to create a relaxed environment for learning and sharing languages, away from the pressure of assignments and exams.

You can get involved with Tandem in lots of different ways. Language Cafés run both during the week and at the weekend – at these you can chat with fellow language enthusiasts over a cup of tea and get to grips with a language with help from native speakers.

Speed Lingua events take place at the end of each month, where you can meet new people and learn languages in a fun and fast-paced evening.

You can also join the Tandem online database to match with others looking to learn or teach your language of choice.

For more information on all Tandem events, visit www.eusa.ed.ac.uk/tandem.

All students are welcome to get involved with the campaigns run by EUSA. These cover a wide range of topics, including both internal campaigns, such as academic or welfare issues, and wider national or even international movements. EUSA campaigns aim to improve the lives of students both at this university and further afield.

In the EUSA elections that take place in October and March, students are elected to lead various campaign areas, but any student can still start up their own campaign, or get involved with an existing one, at any time. The amount of time you commit to a campaign is completely up to you, and you will have the support of EUSA staff at every step.

In recent years, campaign successes have included a Book Fair on campus, fixed fees for international students, subsidised bus travel for students at the Easter Bush campus and extended library opening hours.

Visit www.eusa.ed.ac.uk/representation for more information on getting involved.
