MindCore Technologies ACX (ACXV) is a station class center break switch with option-al V shape configuration, that is designed to utilize the high strength and lightweight characteristics of aluminum alloys, combined with time-tested silver coated copper contacts in a low cost disconnect solution. The current carrying path is exempt braid and assures contact pressure with contact fingers for maximum conductivity over time. Copper contacts are tinned at attach point to aluminum surfaces to prevent galvanic corrosion and are further protected by an inhibitor on the aluminum sur-faces. The ACX switch is the new generation of high quality, low maintenance and ultra robust product designed by MindCore Technologies to maximise your return on investment lasts for decades to come.
APPLICATIONCentre break switches are versatile, multi-use with a wide variety of applications. The ACX can be applied in substations for isolating, by-passing, sectionalizing or a line tap off switch. The switch may be mounted in the horizontal upright configu-ration and, for ratings up to and including 750 kV BIL, in the vertical and under hung mounting positions also. A switch equipped with arcing horns may be used to interrupt small values of line charging or transformer magnetizing current. Center break switches offer the advantage of utilizing only six insulators per switch, saving money on installation and if replacement insulators are required. These switches also useful when overhead bus clearances are small and the “V” con-figuration can fit on single point mounting structures.
CONTACT
Silver-to-silver, high pressure contacts provide maximum dependability under normal and short circuit conditions. The jaw and hinge contact assembly employs the reverse loop configuration, exploiting the magnetic effect of increasing current to increase the contact pressure during short circuit conditions. Normal contact is maintained by insulated stainless steel compression springs, located inside the loop formed by the female contact fingers. The contact fingers are of high conduc-tivity, silver inlay, hard drawn copper and the contact housing is a high conductivity, aluminum extrusion. The male contact is also hard drawn copper, heavily silver inlay. Both male and female contacts are easily replaceable. Due to the shape of the male contact bar, a cam action is developed which gives a high mechanical advantage for applying contact pressure. Also, because of this shape, the contact pressure with the blades closed remains unchanged with nominal variations in alignment or adjustment.
BLADE AND OPERATING mEChANISm
The blade is either high conductivity aluminium or copper alloy pipe. Controls are normally arranged to allow positive over centre toggle, locking in both the open and the closed positions. The ACX switch may be operated either manually or by a motor operator.
GROUND SWITCh
A three pole combined grounding switch may be fitted to either end of an ACX disconnect. This switch features high momentary, high pressure contacts and an aluminium blade. The ground switch can be mechanically interlocked with the main switch to prevent inadvertent grounding of the circuit.

TERmINAL PADS
Terminal pads have holes spacing in accordance with NEMA 4 or 6 holes standards (depending on amperage) and are machined flat to ensure low contact resistance. The terminal pads are pivoted on a hard drawn copper shaft which permits rotation of the switch blades without the rotation of the terminal pads.
SWITCh BASEIn order to ensure superior rigidity at the lowest cost, three types of bases are used. On switches up to 69 kV, switch bases will be fabricated by break forming steel plate into a “top hat” profile as seen on the previous page. Bases for switches rated 115 kV to 161 kV add welded gussets to ensure rigidity. 230 kV to 345 kV switch bases are fabricated by break forming steel plate to a channel shape and welded with cross channels.
PIvOT ASSEmBLIESSealed stainless steel bearings are greased for life and are TRULY maintenance free. Low temperature Microgel grease is used with a corrosion inhibitor.
ICE BREAkINGThis type of switch is inherently a good performer under iced conditions. In the open position, only the male contact is exposed to ice. The closing action stresses the ice in shear and easily breaks the ice away. In the closed position, both male and female contacts are protected from the ice, hence opening an iced ACX switch is very easy. Any ice accumulation bridging the terminal pads and the hinge end contact housing are stressed in tension and break away easily.
“v” CONFIGURATION
The “V” switch configuration allows for low profile substation installations. It is also well suited to being installed on poles in phase-over-phase or phase opposite arrangements for transmission line applications.
