Local newspapers tend to layout their adverts in a similar way. The majority of the newspapers I have seen have a banner ad along the bottom of the front page. On this local newspaper they have chosen to use 3 individual adverts whereas on some newspapers they only have one stretched out across the bottom of the page. The bigger ads are used when a company has paid more money for their company to feature on the front page.

Some advertisements also feature below the masthead and next to the masthead on the right. This is a filler which is done to fill up any white spaces there may be. Newspapers do this because it is additional money and companies will pay to have there company on the front page of a local newspaper as it attracts readers attention. These also tend to be plugs which is when they are advertising goods inside of the newspaper.

Local newspapers also tend to use the same companies frequently. The amount of adverts on a newspapers front page varies depending on the location of the newspaper and who it is aimed at. Ears are also often used which tend to advertise things inside of the newspaper which tend to be space fillers. Often people buy newspapers for the coupons and vouchers gaining them money off from certain companies. Therefore customers are more likely to purchase a newspaper with more plugs and advertisements than one with only a couple on.
