When an organism gets used to it’s environment.
Ex: A dog sheds its fur in the summer
Camouflage When an organism blends into the environment to
hide from predators or to hunt prey. Ex: A chameleon uses camouflage to hide from
any predators
Hibernation
When an animal sleeps for a long period of time.
Ex: Squirrels hibernate during the winter
Dormancy
When plants rest for a long period of time.
Ex: A tree sheds its leaves for the winter
Courtship
When an animal tries to find a mate. Ex: Birds migrating to find a mate
Migration When an animal travels to another place
for reasons of temperature, food, or courtship.
Salmon migrate upstream for many miles
Regeneration
When an organism regrows body parts Ex: A newt can regenerate limbs within
10 weeks
