am depressed but I do not want to take pills! This is a phrase I often hear in therapy! Given the vast
amount of information on the internet and in the media of anti-depressants, there is some justification for the fear. The list of possible side-effects are often long and many sound unsettling but in many instances they subside over time. Some common side-effects like weight gain or fatigue can be offset by lifestyle changes. Often patients find that abandoning unhealthy lifestyle choices are easier to attain when their depression is mitigated. And while the list of side effects can be numerous some patients experience modest or no side effectsThere are exceptions to the lifetime diagnosis. In some instances the depression can be situational, (due to a specific event) and may respond to behavioral therapies. In those cases the prescription may be discontinued after a period of time or the dosage decreased. When depression is caused by personality disorders or

Stress and anxiety have been increasing tremendously in the United States in recent years. It could be said
that anxiety is the modern-day plague that affects more than 40 million adults in our country. One in every five people suffer from anxiety. Women are twice as likely as men to be affected.
Unfortunately, most people suffering from anxiety and stress don’t seek help. They don’t want to depend on medication to feel better. Therefore, only 36.9% of them receive treatment.
The good news is that stress and anxiety are very treatable, and hypnotherapy can help tremendously. Hypnosis is a natural state of the human mind. In fact, we experience this state frequently in our lives. Think of
The Superion® device is implanted through a small tube the size of a dime to reduce tissue damage and blood loss. Once implanted, it acts as a decompression device, relieving pressure on the affected nerves much like the relief achieved from a seated or flexed position.
Superion’s® design provides optimal fit and preserves a patient’s ability to maintain motion. It minimizes post-procedure complications and provides long lasting, durable relief for LSS sufferers.
chemical imbalances, patients may not like the flattening effect of their mood or attitude. Their depression is so rooted in their personality that they see their depression as an identifying trait and fear losing this part of their personality. Often creative types, such as artist or writers feel their depression defines and inspires their creativity. This is often unfounded when the patient experiences stability and discovers they are able to maintain or improve their imagination. Fear of taking a medication for depression should be weighed against the effects you are suffering. Do you want to spend the rest of your life experiencing symptoms like despondency, poor relationships, and always dealing with unfounded stress? Talk to your mental health care specialist about your fears so you can make an informed decision and maybe with some input you can take the first steps towards having a more fulfilled and happy life. Life itself involves taking risks and often the rewards outweigh those risks.

Light Physical Activity Could Help to Lower Risk of Coronary and
Cardiovascular Problems
The Amazing Benefits of Light Physical Activity
Pain & Balance
Physical Therapy
ost people probably don’t think of everyday activities – such as hanging out the washing or putting away the groceries – as having an effect
on their long-term health. But new research suggests that doing lots of these light-intensity physical activities reduces your risk of cardiovascular disease. For most people, light physical activity makes up the bulk of their daily physical activity. Yet government guidelines focus almost exclusively on moderate to vigorous-intensity physical activity. The difficulty of measuring a person’s light-intensity physical activity largely explains this disconnect. But a recent study by the JAMA Network Open looked at people who spent more time moving around than sitting during the day. They found light physical activities resulted in favorable insulin and triglyceride (blood fat) levels, even if they did not do the amount of exercise that national guidelines recommend.
The participants in the study showed they were 46% less likely to have a heart attack or die from one. And they were 26% less likely to suffer any form of cardiovascular “event” (stroke, severe angina), compared with those who did the least amount of light activity – three hours or less per day.Although these light exercises may not be as beneficial to your health as vigorous activities are, they are still “much better than lying on the couch, watching TV,” said study researcher Bradley Cardinal, co-director of the Sport and Exercise Psychology Program at Oregon State University.Your light activities can ease the transition to increased activity levels, so keep moving and reap the benefits.

Summer is a fun time of the year and still can be even if you are living with chronic pain. Try some of these solutions to stay as comfortable as possible no matter how hot it is outside!
STOP WEARING FLIP FLOPS: Even though it is hot outside, wearing those flip-flops often will make a variety of painful conditions worse. The instability of these popular shoes (if you can really call them shoes) leads to more back pain, leg pain and foot pain.
SWIM OFTEN: Take advantage of the warmer weather by jumping in a pool. Immersing yourself in water helps to reduce the amount of stress on sore body parts. Exercise in the pool is very therapeutic for a variety of painful conditions.
HYDRATE YOUR BODY: Dehydration weakens the body and causes even more aches and pains. Watch for signs of dehydration like dizziness. And remember that water is life for muscles, nerves and bones.
PACE YOURSELF: During the Summer, there are so many fun activities to do, places to go, and people to see. If you don’t set a sustainable pace, your body will hurt. A sustainable pace allows you to do more with less pain. Stop and rest frequently to allow your body to catch up to your mind.
COOL OFF: Sometimes chronic pain will be worse with too much heat. Keep the pain and inflammation in check by cooling off with ice, air conditioning, or a cool spot in the shade. If you like to take walks as part of your daily exercise routine, go in the early mornings before it gets too hot.
TRAVEL SMART: Many people travel during the Summer, but traveling can be very difficult if you experience chronic pain. Traveling light is a smart solution for chronic pain. Planning for rest days during your journey is a great way to keep the pain from getting unmanageable.
EAT WELL: Ice cream and cold drinks are the siren songs during the Summertime that will cause more pain. Maintaining a proper anti-inflammatory diet throughout the year, even when it is hot outside and the ice cream truck just stopped in your neighborhood, is an essential solution to chronic pain.
Make your chronic pain take a backseat while you enjoy your Summer fun!
