Portals

ClassMate maintains portals for home school counselors and administrators and parents.

The District Portal

In addition to viewing students’ attendance, grades and schedules on the portal, counselors are able to

initiate registration for new students on the District Portal. Once the preliminary form is submitted in

ClassMate, the registrar waits for the confirming paperwork to arrive and starts the application process

with the counselors at Barry Tech or LIHSA.

New for 2017-2018 are enrollment, attendance and grade reports that counselors can generate on the

portal. This new feature will eliminate several phone calls to our offices, enabling our staff to work

more efficiently.

Attendance reports – individual student and home school summary reports – will eliminate the need

to send frequent attendance reports to home schools and allow home school counselors to remediate

attendance problems sooner. Daily attendance report is available.

Summarized Progress Report and Marking Period grade reports will enable the home school

counselors to view and print student grades sooner to meet their building’s deadlines.

Enrollment reports will list currently enrolled students and their program of study.

Registration and Projection reports in the Spring, will allow counselors can keep track of the

students who have been registered and accepted for the next school year.

The Parent Portal

Parent Portal include phone number preferences. It is hoped that this will improve outreach to

parents via Blackboard Connect (Nassau BOCES’ Robocalling System) as well as ClassMate.

Parents have always been able to see their child’s attendance, grades and schedule on the Parent Portal.

This year, they will be able to see and/or print a student absence report, progress report and report

card.

The Student Portal

This year, our students are able to view their classroom progress on the new Student Portal. Every

student is given access to this portal which displays their attendance, schedule, work ethic, knowledge

and skill grades. They will have the opportunity to see this information in real time and to make every

effort to keep the data accurate.

Weighted Knowledge Categories

The Health Cluster, supplemental (pull-out) and a few other CTE courses opted to use weighted knowledge

categories in their marking period knowledge grade component calculation. Only those knowledge

categories they selected can be used to create a knowledge activity. (If an incorrect category is selected, the

ClassMate user gets an error message and the knowledge activity will not be saved in the knowledge bank.)

All allowable weighted categories must be utilized in the marking period for the knowledge grade to

calculate correctly. PLEASE NOTE: If any of the allowable weighted knowledge categories is not assigned to

a knowledge activity during a marking period, the knowledge component grade will calculate based on

points earned/points available. No weights will be applied. For best results, it is recommended that an equal

amount of activities for each weighted category be graded in the marking period.

All other courses are free to choose any knowledge category. All knowledge activities for the marking period

are calculated with equal weight, based on points earned/points available

The following courses have weighted knowledge categories:

1. All Barry Tech Supplemental (Pull-out) academics: Health, Marine Science, Physical Education

Only two knowledge categories in the knowledge bank may be selected:

tests/quizzes: 60%

hw/cw/jrnl/lab/proj/portf: 40%

2. Auto Body, Auto Tech, Computer Tech, Culinary Arts, Network Cabling:

Only two knowledge categories in the knowledge bank may be selected:

tests/quizzes: 60%

hw/cw/jrnl/lab/proj/portf: 40%

3. Health Cluster: Dental Assisting, Medical Assisting, Nurse Assisting, Personal Trainer, Physical Therapy Aide

Only five knowledge categories in the knowledge bank may be selected:

Tests: 30%

Labs/Projects: 25%

Quizzes: 20%
