C H I L D H OO D The childhood begins at around age 3

to 11, approximating primary school age and ends around puberty, which typically marks the beginning of adolescence. In this period, children are attending school, thus developing socially and mentally. They are at a stage where they make new friends and gain new skills, which will enable them to become more independent and enhance their individuality.

Puberty is the period in children's lives when they experience physical changes by which their bodies eventually become adult bodies that are capable of reproducing.

Puberty is triggered by hormone signals from the brain to the ovaries and testes (gonads). The ovaries (in girls) and testes (in boys) respond to hormone signals from the brain by producing a range of hormones that stimulate the growth, function and change in various parts of the body, including the reproductive organs, breasts, skin, muscles, bones, hair and the brain.

Adolescence What is adolescence?. It is the period

between childhood and adulthood. People of every background and of every color go through this. Adolescence is something that, when we go through it, well make us the person that we are to become. Thirty years ago, drugs were something that older people never talked about and nor did they ever see. Alcohol was small thing that the good people such as churchgoers never touched, but they preached about it.

All adolescence goes through points in those few years that will decide if they will go to school when they graduate . Adolescence has a hard time because of the things that are going through. Adolescence is difficult. Adolescence facing drugs and alcohol issues has changed in the past thirty years . Every town has a town drunk. In today’s society adolescence see alcohol and drugs at least once a day or more .

SECONDARY SEXUAL CHARACTERISTICS

Secondary sex characteristics are features that distinguish the two sexes of a species, but that are not directly part of the reproductive system. They are believed to be the product of sexual selection for traits which give an individual an advantage over its rivals in courtship and aggressive interactions.[citation needed] They are distinguished from the primary sex characteristics — the sex organs — which are directly necessary for reproduction to occur .

ADOLESCENCE EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM

The Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) recognizes the potential of young people and invests in initiatives and partnerships to create and strengthen opportunities for young people to realize better life options.

The Adolescence Education Programme (AEP) is an important initiative that aims to empower young people with accurate, age appropriate and culturally relevant information, promote healthy attitudes and develop skills to enable them to respond to real life situations in positive and responsible ways.

. National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) co-ordinates the program and works through both curricular and co-curricular formats to contribute toward holistic development of young people in pursuance of the National Curriculum Framework, 2005. National Popular Education Programme (NPEP) is being implemented in 30 States and Union Territories.

It aims to develop awareness and positive attitude toward population and development issues leading to responsible behavior among students and teachers and, indirectly, among parents and the community at large. Imparting authentic knowledge to learners about Adolescent Reproductive and Sexual Health (ARSH) concerns, inculcating positive attitude and developing appropriate life skills for responsible behavior are also the objectives of NPEP
