Holiday Greetings Adam’s Angels Ministry has begun preparing for the holidays! Now is the time to help our ministry deliver blessings and bring the Spirit of Christmas through our Adopt-A-Family for the Holidays! The Adopt-A-Family’s main purpose is to spread holiday cheer by providing a Christmas to those families who find the season especially difficult while coping with a child diagnosed with cancer or having recently lost a child to cancer. Adam’s Angels Ministry began adopting families for Christmas in 2004. AAM works hand-in- hand with Candlelighters in receiving families who are open to having the spirit of Christmas delivered to them. Each year Candlelighters adopts out over 200 families to generous sponsors; AAM was one of those generous sponsors in making Christmas brighter for approximately 20 families. We ask you to help us embrace families who have children with cancer and ease the holiday season for those families facing the difficult diagnosis of cancer. This heartwarming program offers the Sponsors the opportunity to personally interact with the families. This contact is especially important for the family and the sponsor in celebrating the true meaning of the holidays. Our Adopt-A-Family program serves those families in not only financial need, but those families in emotional need. Our program recognizes that the diagnosis of childhood cancer affects the entire family. Adopt-A-Family offers help and hope during the holiday season. Enclosed you will find the Adopt-A-Family Program Sponsor Guidelines for you to review. By completing the “Sponsor Wish List” you will advise us the size of the family you are willing to adopt. Your request is given to Candlelighers who in turn will match your family with a family and you will be given the “Family Gift List.” You may be matched to a family of your choice: teens, bereaved, small children, Spanish speaking. If you are unable to actually purchase and deliver the gifts, but would like to make a monetary donation to Adopt-A-Family, AAM will, through your donation, purchase gifts for an assigned family. If you are interested in sponsoring a family or donating to Adopt-A-Family for the Holidays, please complete the enclosed “Sponsor Wish List” and mail it as soon as possible to: Adam’s Angels Ministry, P O. Box 2573, Brenham, Texas 77834-2573 . If you have any questions please feel free to contact the AAM office at 979-836-0955 or via e-mail at: [email protected] We hope you will choose to sponsor a family and receive a blessing this Christmas. The Adopt-A-Family’s main purpose is to spread holiday cheer by providing a Christmas to those families who find the season especially difficult while coping with a child diagnosed with cancer or having recently lost a child to cancer.

We ask you to help us embrace families who have children with cancer and ease the holiday season for those families facing the difficult diagnosis of cancer.

Adam’s Angels Ministry and Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Family Alliance

Adopt-A-Family for the Holidays Sponsor Guidelines

The purpose of the Adopt-A-Family program is to assist childhood cancer families during a time of great emotional crisis and/or financial need. These families are either coping with a child diagnosed with cancer, have a child survivor of cancer, or they have lost a child to cancer. To ensure that this is a rewarding and positive experience for both the families and the sponsors, we ask that you adhere to the following guidelines:

• Please fill out the enclosed “Sponsor Wish List.” AAM will contact Candlelighters who will be assigning a family to each sponsor based upon the “Sponsor Wish List.” Special requests for single parent families, children on treatment, teenagers, or a family from a specific area of Houston will be honored whenever possible.

• To ensure that our families are adopted in time for the holiday season please return your “Sponsor Wish List” to the AAM office as soon as possible.

• Sponsors wishing to purchase and deliver gifts for a family will be provided with a “Holiday Gift List” from their adopted family. When you receive your Adopt a Family holiday gift list, we encourage you to call the family and let them know that you are their sponsor.

We request that you purchase a maximum of three gifts totaling $50 or less for each family member. We also recommend focusing on a family theme and providing holiday treats that all members of the family may enjoy together. A diagnosed child should not be singled out for more gifts. Below is a list of popular gift ideas for your adopted family:

v “Holiday Wish List” items as requested. v Clothing items: shoes, jackets, jeans, or pajamas. v Gift certificates: from a grocery store for a holiday meal or a family-dining restaurant, from

a clothing store, video store, a movie theater, zoo passes. Kids enjoy gift certificates from McDonalds, Chuck E. Cheese, Chick-Fil-A or other child friendly places.

v Gas cards help with the high cost of gas. v Drug store cards help with over-the-counter medical supplies. v Holiday Gifts, Christmas tree, Menorah or other appropriate decorations or stocking

stuffers.

• Gifts for the adopted family are to be wrapped and delivered by sponsors from December 1st through December 15th.

• Sponsors are encouraged to purchase and deliver gifts to the families personally; however monetary donations are accepted as well. AAM volunteers will shop, wrap and deliver the gifts to the families with monies received through monetary donations. Sponsors wishing to make monetary donations need only complete the applicable sections of the “Sponsor Wish List” and mail it along with their donation to AAM at the address on the previous page.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Donna Culliver at 979-836-0955 or via email at [email protected].
