Are you looking for a satisfying but flexible volun-teer opportunity? Peninsula Food Runners is a vol-unteer organization dedicated to alleviate hunger and reduce food waste. We are building our volunteer base in Santa Clara County and invite you to join us. Peninsula Food Runners volunteers pick up excess perishable and prepared food from participating Do-nors (restaurants, caterers, bakeries, corporate cafe-terias, etc.), and then deliver the food directly to our Recipients (shelters, day centers for the elderly, Boys and Girls Clubs, etc.). Shifts normally take less than 90 minutes and can work around your schedule. Come join our team of volunteers! Go to peninsulafoodrunners.org and register under Volunteer Sign-Up. Questions: email Molly Rhine at [email protected] or call (408) 396-8705.

Our mission is to “continue lifelong learning in a Catholic environment through spiritual growth, re-flection, and service as we strengthen our relation with God though each other, our faith, and our com-munity.” Please contact youth and young adult min-istry coordinator Chris Miller at 408-395-7949 or [email protected] for more information.
“The more prosperous nations are obliged, to the ex-tent they are able, to welcome the foreigner in search of security and the means of livelihood which he can-not find in his country of origin.”
Catholic Catechism, No. 2241
“We belong to one human family. As such we have mutual obligations to promote the rights and devel-opment of all people across communities, nations, and the world, irrespective of national boundaries. In particular, the rich nations have responsibility toward the poor nations, and the structures of the internation-al order must reflect justice.”
Catholic Social Teaching, OUR best Kept Secret, page 42 the vision of Christ is to provide a light for the entire world. The vision of Christ calls together the whole world and all its peoples. The vision of Christ calls for a healing of divisions and openness to learn from all people. The vision of Christ calls for a just world order…trade policies that respect the economic op-portunities of all people especially the poor…immigration policies that are just and respectful of people…environmental policies that respect the world that we all share together…spending policies that respond to human needs…investment in human needs rather than the weapons of war.
The Feast of Epiphany invites us to celebrate Jesus who came as a light to all people, not just to some subset of the human race. Thus, the categorical ex-clusion of anyone contradicts the good news of Jesus Christ. Racism, stereotyping, discrimination, xeno-phobia, and ethnic violence are all wrong.
The behavior of the foreign visitors or magi is the behavior of those who seek the truth at a great cost. The child offers a vision that is worth traveling a very long distance to experience. Jesus offers ta light that is worth sharing. In the wisdom of a child born in humble circumstances, they find a wonderful light, a good news, and a liberation from sin, injustice, and prejudice.
In the United States immigration policies have be-come a matter of great discussion. Today is the start of National Immigration Week. The Feast of Epipha-ny invites us to reflect on these issues and reconnect with our church’s teachings on these matters.
