One question tends to loom over learners before they make a decision to re-enter education and typically it’s whether they can afford to do a course, due to other financial commitments.
With a 19+ Advanced Learner Loan, you can now take the immediate financial burden away. We encourage learners to invest in themselves and an education will help your value appreciate, where as with most other purchasing decisions, the opposite is true.
If you see a course with this icon it means it qualifies for the Advanced Learner Loan.
Loan eligibility doesn’t depend on your income and there are no credit checks. However, whether you qualify for an Advanced Learner Loan or not will depend on your: • Course • Age • Nationality or residency status
You pay back your loan (plus interest) when you finish your course and earn more than £25,000 a year. Your repayments will stop if your income drops below £25,000 a year. If you progress into Higher Education, you DO NOT need to repay the loan.

Neville had worked in sales for 20 years but opened his own business after completing cookery qualifications at Kirklees College. The dad-of-3 is now realising his dreams through running Café Novo in Dewsbury town centre.
Neville said: “I enjoyed cooking for friends and family and always had the dream of opening my own restaurant.
“I did the course at Kirklees College, because I wanted
to increase my cookery skills, but also know all about the background things – food standards, kitchen regulations and hospitality, all the extra things you need to run your own business.”
“It covered everything. The teaching staff at college, were amazing. I am really grateful for all the help they have given me!”
TRAIN FOR A NEW CAREER AROUND WORK AND FAMILY
LEARNING NEW SKILLS - FOR LIFE AND WORK!SERENA STUDIED: FIRST AID FOR PETS
Serena studied BTEC Dog Grooming at Kirklees College, but chose to also do the one-day First Aid for Pets course for her personal knowledge as well as learning a new skill to complement her career training.
“I thought it would be good to have first aid knowledge being around dogs so much, as you never know when it might be needed. I also have a cat and dog of my own. I really enjoyed the course. It was very well structured and
the tutor made the day interactive and enjoyable, with her vast knowledge and stories of animal rescues. I thought it was well-paced and there was plenty of opportunity to ask questions.
“The teaching room was large and bright and the environment relaxed and friendly. All in all, it’s one of the best one day courses I have attended in years!”
After achieving his Level 5 qualification with Kirklees College, Mark started his own company Jigby Training Solutions - developing and delivering courses within the health and social care sector, supporting staff working with people with challenging behaviour, first aid courses and bespoke courses.
“I really enjoyed the course, it was great learning about
other people’s experiences as there was a broad range of teaching roles among the students on it.
“I’m earning more now I have the qualification and it has given me extra skills that I think put me ahead of other training providers in terms of the experience I can offer.”
Devinder has been working at Kirklees College for over 20 years in various roles, but it was her progression into the role as Customer Services Administrator that gave her the drive to want to further her skills through the Customer Services Level 2 qualification.
As one of the first faces that people see at Kirklees College, Devinder knew how important it was to be able to communicate with a wide range of people from different nationalities and cultures and the course really helped.
“I’m a real people person and love working with a diverse
range of people. This role is so fast paced and challenging and the course really helped me improve my communication skills to enable me to strengthen my relationships and interactions with students and colleagues.”
“The course gave me great freedom to input my ideas and opinions and it really challenges you to want to do and achieve more. I really feel that I have gained a great deal of confidence to be the best and do the job to the best of my ability and this course has been the driving force behind it.”
