temperature as afunctional test anddesign variablewithin the testprogram. TheSystem's independ-ent programmability, multiple test set filesand non-volatilememory assure thatall TPO4000 systemcapabilities can beused without burden-ing or reducing theprocessing speed ofthe tester CPU .

High Test Throughput

The system's speed, high heat pumping/cooling capacity andbroad temperature range dramatically increase test through-put capacity. With the High Speed Thermal Head option, thesystem is capable of air transition times of less than 5seconds between +125"C and 55°C, whether heating orcooling in continuous cycle mode.*

The wide temperature range (-75°C to +225°C)exceeds Mil Spec requirements.

Automatic Air Flow Control optimizes thesystem's high air flow rate, up to 18 SCFM, withoutrequiring manual adjustments for the fastest devicetemperature transition times. Even larger devices, printed circuit boards and high power hybrids arebrought to temperature with speed and precision. Repeatable

perature" Windows, which can be defined from :to.5°C to:t9.9°C around the desired test temperature.

For "real time" temperature precision, the temperature sens-ing of the airstream is done at the TPO4000 output nozzle, within1 cm of the test device, assuring that the air affecting the testdevice is typically within 1.0°C of the displayed temperature.

Temperature accuracy and stability for all devicetypes, package styles and power levels is provided by theeasy to use automated electronic calibration routine.

*System performance may vary with soak time.

Develop unlimited test set-up files manually orvia IEEE-488 and RS232. Create custom

temperatureprofiling routines including adjustable ramp rate, soak timeand cycle sequences with up to 12 test temperatures usingUser-friendly menus. Unlimited set-up files and thermalprofile routines can be developed, filed and retrieved instantlyusing the 3.5 inch floppy disk drive.

For added flexibility in meeting specific test requirements, defaults such as" At Temperature" windows, high and lowtemperature limits, calibration values, IEEE-488 address, testdevice settling time and tunable DUT control constants can beeasily adjusted by the programmer in the Engineering Modeusing intuitive windows. Non-volatile memory retains allprogrammed defaults and information when the system isturned off or unplugged.

Test programs may be set up and run in the manualmodes of operation or via IEEE-488, TTL Level ST/EOT/SFF or optional RS232 remote interfaces. Connectorsare provided for a keyboard and monitor.

Convenient Couplingto the Test Fixture

The TPO4000 is supplied with an easy to use Thermal InterfaceKit containing sufficient materials for coupling to several testfixtures.

Temperature controlled purge air at the test site insuresthat the test socket and test fIXtures are maintained at close to roomtemperature whether testing at extremely high or low temperaturesto prevent moisture, frost or overheatingof tester electronics.

Highly repeatable accuracy is ac-complished by precision pneumatics rais-ing and lowering the thermal test head to

Personal andEnvironmentalSafety

The TPO4000 is an environmentally safe alternative toflourocarbon sprays and baths and pressurized cooling gastanks.

"Power On" indicator, Emergency "Off" button, low airpressure and flow cut-outs, redundant overheat protection and"At Temperature" and error conditions are provided. Anoptional red, blue/amber and green status light sits atop theunit, so that system status can be verified from across the testfloor.

Large, locking casters and an integral push bar maketransporting the system between test sites safe and easy.Leveling feet assure system stability even on uneven floorsurfaces.

Data Logging Mode and the user-friendly Report Generatorassist the user in saving data and creating reports quickly andeasily for test verification, documentation, archives andanalysis.

User designed reports and graphs present temperaturetest results based on various test parameters. "Real time"temperature performance data can be reviewed on screen andgraph parameters can be adjusted to analyze any time periodmore closely. The Parallel Printer Port Option can beused to generate hard copy reports of the test dataand set-up parameters.

Continuous data logging of several hours of thermalperformance data with continuous date and time stamping canbe retained in RAM. 36 or more hours of continuous informa-tion can be stored on a single 3.5" floppy disk.

OUT Control Assures Component

Temperature Accuracyand from the DUT site. The adjustable arm firmly supports thethermal head assembly at the test site assuring proper alignment.

All thermal caps may be removed and replaced withouttools. An optional footswitch is available for hands-freeraising and lowering of the thermal head assembly to and fromthe test site.

DUT (Device Under Test) patented DualLoop Control Mode* provides direct con-trol of the test device case temperature. The DUT control is user-tunable to opti-mize throughput for any package size.

The device temperature is broughtas close as possible to the desired testtemperature, with minimal offset, bythe system using a temperature sensorlocated on the test socket in contactwith the DUT or attached to the devicecase. The TPO4000 will accept type"K" and type "T" thermocouple andoptionallOOO ohm RTD extemalDUT sensors.

A stable DUT temperature ismaintained in DUT control mode. Thesystem will react to any change in thepower dissipation level in the testdevice and will automatically compen-sate through air temperature control. In DUT mode, the operator can alsomanually fine tune the controlconstants to match the massof the device for the best

compromise betweenminimal overshoot and
