Okay. I have found out what will be moni-tored at the site of the deep geologicalrepository. There is the list . . .

Now, for the 40 years of on-site operation(when the repository is being filled), therewill be monitoring. That period is followedby 70 years of more monitoring when therepository is partially sealed. That is fol-lowed by 30 years of decommissioningwhen the repository is permanently closedand sealed.

And if anything should go wrong duringthis 140-year period, what will be done? And who will make the decision? Who willbe the supervisor who will say, Okay, folks, back to square one? Got to get down anddirty and dig it all up. That’s 16 billion dol-lars down the drain, but the Harper govern-ment will find that cash somewhere, afterit erases the deficit. Who will say that? . . .

That supervisor (excuse me, I almost said“sucker”) with the responsibility of saying

“Dig it all up, guys!” will have to be wearingarmour . . . like Batman. That’s when thepoliticians and the bureaucrats will be say-ing, “Hey, those guys back in the Age of Ide-alism, they set the limits too high. Let’s berealistic!”

That will be the day when “passive monitor-ing”, as NWMO calls it, will become “nomeaningful monitoring”. Which it was allalong anyway.

Where does that leave us today? It leaves uswith 4+ million tonnes of nuclear waste fromour nuclear generating plants. I found oneline that said 4.6 million tonnes. That’s justfrom the existing plants, and the planned ex-pansions to those plants. This does not ac-count for any new plants that may come online.

We have to have a plan to deal with thismountain of waste on a long-term basis.

Fortunately, my brief study of this problemhas enabled me to formulate a plan.

Get ready.

(NC) Household chores and endless projects can seem like athankless job, but regular home maintenance is important to en-sure your home's safety, comfort and long-term durability. If yourto-do list is ever growing, there's no need to feel overwhelmed.Focus on this list of must-tackle jobs to not only improve yourhome, but your daily living, as well.

Insulate well. Ensuring your home is well insulated will improveyour comfort, while saving you money by keeping heating andcooling costs in check. The right insulation –– ideally a non-com-bustible, inorganic product –– can also improve your home's firesafety and air quality. A dense insulation with non-directionalfibre composition will also help control sound for a more peacefulspace overall. Many contractors recommend Rockwool stonewool insulation, like Comfortbatt and Safe 'n' Sound. Both resistfire up to 1,177˚C and, because they repel moisture, aren't sus-ceptible to mould, mildew or rot. They also offer excellent soundabsorption and are easy to install.

Add storage. This is an easy DIY project that can tremendouslyimprove the way your home functions. Built-in's are especiallypopular because they can create an impressive focal point. As-sembling store-bought units can also work with a tight budget.Ultimately, the goal is to give everything a place and to decreaseclutter.

Paint. It's amazing how transformative paint can be. It can com-pletely alter the way you feel about your home, creating an in-stant refresh and a foundation to anchor other updates.

Establish “me” space. Consider your interests and hobbies, thenwork on creating a special place in your home where you cantruly relax or unwind. Whether this means turning your bathroominto a spa-like oasis with some new tile or fixtures or creating arecreational retreat, having a room that helps you recharge isgreat for your mental health.

Extend your living space. This doesn't have to mean an expensiveaddition. Consider simple improvements like refinishing unusedareas of your home, like the basement, or re-purposing existingspace, like a cluttered storage or laundry room that causes youstress. You might also bring an indoor feel to your outdoor spaceby building a patio or deck with comfortable seating and lightingto create somewhere that you can rest or entertain.

Ultimately, home improvements that help you live better canseemingly provide double the return. The ROI can be measuredin enjoyment, as well as equity.

Are you in an especially adventurous mood, Aquarius? This is the sort of day whenyou can try just about anything new and still come out in one piece. Why not enroll ina marathon, take rock-climbing lessons, or drive to a place you've never been to be-fore? Wherever you end up, you should find peace and a heightened state of aware-ness. Don't hesitate. If what you have in mind involves minimal risk, go for it!

Study of the occult sciences, whether historical or hands-on experiments, should provefascinating and enlightening for you today, Pisces. Astrology, alchemy, numerology, orherbalism are all intriguing fields, and your mind should be especially attuned to them. One warning: beware of unethical teachers. You may or may not read the works of one,but nonetheless hang on to a little skepticism. Even on days like this, don't believe every-thing you read or hear.

The opportunity to take a trip by air, perhaps at someone else's expense, could cometo you today, Aries. This might be business related or it could be educational in someway. This is a good day to travel or make the arrangements for it. The journey prom-ises to be an exciting one that you'll remember for a long time. Do what you have toin order to get it all together and then go for it! Enjoy your day.

Some rather bizarre dreams could come to you tonight, Taurus. The symbols may includepeople or objects that you would never have thought of consciously in a hundred years.Nonetheless, they do have meaning for you right now. Sit down and make a list of the symbolsand events in the dream, then try to analyze what they mean to you. Your dream is trying totell you something important. Make the most of it.

Do you have plans to go to a party tonight, Gemini? Don't cancel them. If you're single,an exciting new potential love partner might be introduced to you, and you could spendthe entire evening together. If you're already involved, someone could come on thescene who could prove a valuable business contact and might even form a partnershipwith you. Unless you're too tired to move, get up and go! You won't regret it!

Some unexpected changes could happen today, Cancer. You could find yourself con-fronting the prospect of having to get used to some new and totally state-of-the-artequipment that you've never used before. Don't panic. You'll do fine, you'll be a realwhiz once you get used to it. Try to focus your mind on this for now and learn as muchas you can. You can do it!

Are you flying today, Leo, or perhaps going somewhere by train? If so, you might meetsomeone fascinating on the trip. Don't be shy, and don't let pride or propriety stand inthe way of striking up a conversation with this person. It will pass the time, you mightlearn something, and there is always the chance that you really could become friends.Relax, smile your most charming smile, and enjoy the trip.

Have you just bought some new equipment for your home, Virgo? This could be anew computer, a state-of-the-art entertainment system, or perhaps a new appliance. You and the other members of your household might spend much of the day trying tolearn how to use it, although it could seem rather difficult. Take heart! It looks morecomplicated than it is. Keep trying, and don't forget to have fun!

An unexpected phone call, perhaps from an old friend, could come your way today,Libra. This person is apt to have good news for you, although he or she may be in arather melancholy mood. A long conversation could result, the outcome of which isgoing to change your life, albeit in a subtle way. Nonetheless, this is apt to be a dayfull of pleasant surprises. Enjoy it!

A financial windfall might be in the stars for you, Scorpio. This isn't anything you wouldhave expected. Perhaps it's a bonus, repayment of a loan you'd long since forgotten, ora settlement of some kind. Whatever it is, it will definitely be a pleasant surprise. Don't,however, spend it all in one place. Wait a few days and then consult a professional aboutyour financial future. This could make a big difference to you. Don't throw it away.

An exciting group activity, perhaps one involving a number of your friends, could takeplace today, Sagittarius. Your mind may be going a thousand miles an hour throughoutthe day. Ideas will be exchanged, stimulating conversations should take place, andyou could meet some interesting new people. Someone you meet, however, has anagenda too. Be discriminating about whom you agree to meet with later.

Surprising and very fortunate events could take place today, Capricorn. This could bean advancement that you weren't expecting. The introduction of an interesting newperson or the beginning of an exciting new project could raise your pulse. The dayshould therefore pass by very quickly. Tonight you may want to share your excitementwith your partner or another family member.

- BLADE RUNNER 2049 -

Blade Runner 2049 is coming to Blu-ray

and DVD next week, and everything that

made the original a triumph is here. The

film is a visual marvel. The effects, the cin-

ematography, the production design, it re-

ally is a work of art. But it also has a well

told story that actually expands things

and features some great performances. This is another case where

I have to be brief so that way I don’t give away or imply anything,

it’s best to go into it not knowing what happens. If you loved the

original, you’ll love this equally.
