THIS SPRING THE London Original Print Fair will be staged forthe thirty-first time in the commodious exhibition rooms of theRoyal Academy of Arts. The event is now London’s longestsurviving commercial art fair and Europe’s largest dedicated tooriginal prints. Fifty leading dealers and publishers from as farafield as Scandinavia, North America and Japan will offer worksranging in date from the time of Dürer to the present day.Although works for sale will overwhelmingly cater for moderntastes a small group of old-master specialists will offer worksincluding A beggar seated on a bank (Self-portrait) by Rembrandt(1606–69). This will be with C.G. Boerner (New York). Ofparticular note in the contemporary field will be a new series ofprints by Jake and Dinos Chapman on the stand of Paupers Press(London).
Running concurrently with the fair will be a group exhibition inthe Friends Room. Curated by Tess Jaray (who will have newworks on the stand of Advanced Graphics), the display willfeature new works by Terry Frost.
The Annual Printmaking Talk on 6th May will find the RoyalAcademician Michael Craig-Martin in conversation with JoanBakewell. Insights will be offered into his creative processesincluding etching, screen printing, 3-D printing and light-boxinstallations. Other daily talks and events will profile Japanesewoodblock printing, the prints of James McNeil Whistler(1834–1903) and printmaking at the RA Schools (past andpresent). The programme will also include a young collectorsevening with a live screen printing by Gary Hume. Additionalpresentations by artists such as Yinka Shonibare, Tess Jaray, BobSaich, Paul Coldwell and Katherine Jones will add much tointerest collectors, artists and print enthusiasts.
A new museum purchase grant will be launched at the Fair.£8,000 will be made available (subject to application) for a publiccollection in the UK to purchase a work from the Fair.Sponsored by Ecclesiastical Insurance, this initiative aims to raisethe profile of print holdings and acquisitions within the publicrealm.
