Past and future of LGNI

Since 2009 • Training delivered to 350+

people on IG practice• 4000 + people engaged in

IG activity across NI• 100 + small grants given out

to local groups• 80+ schools participated in

our projects• 4 staff members (3 part

time)

Our activity now:• Closely working and learning

with GWT• Contributing to the development

of age-friendly activity at local government level in NI

Age awareness – why?

We need to change how we do things to respond to the challenges of an ageing society.

Tackling Ageism • Raising awareness• Building intergenerational practice• Developing age-friendly communities for all ages• Supporting cohesive communities

Tools to develop age awareness with groups (some ideas)

• Stereotypical drawings followed by discussion• Looking at media/advertisements• Birthday card activity• Quiz/discussions• Line ups of groups of people by age and discussion• Separation of groups into decade groups and then talk to each

other• Use of images to spark discussion
