Healthy eating at any age raises energy levels, boosts the immune system and protects the body against illnesses such as hypertension (high blood pressure), diabetes and os- teoporosis. A healthy diet for se- niors will provide high levels of nutrition and an appropriate number of calories in small quan- tities of food that can be easily digested. A home health care worker can integrate and oversee the dietary requirements of those confined at home. People in an advanced stage of illness require special nutritional attention, and many seniors are at risk of mal- nutrition. Key factors contribut- ing to seniors’ poor nutritional health include illness, medicati- ons, loneliness, decreased mobil- ity and depression.
