NEW RAYMER - The 61st year ofthe Northeast Weld County Fair andRodeo is now in the history books.

The event was held July 23-24, atthe fairgrounds in New Raymer andis sponsored by the Northeast WeldDrylander organization. Membersinclude Brandon Mason, president;Bob Willich, 1st vice president; JeffDollerschell, secretary; Scott Stump,treasurer; Bryce Carlson, fair man-ager; Glenn Carlson, GaryDollerschell, Jeff Dollerschell, BryanFunk, Ken Holzworth, Larry Hoozee,Justin Hoozee, Skip Johnson, VirgilJohnson, Paul Kaiser, Albert Kester,Susie Kester, Matt Kilmer, JoeKimmel, Steve Kugler, Cyle Lam-bert, Bret McEndaffer, CodyMcEndaffer, Scott Northrup, JerrySamber, Gary Sheffler, Marla Tappy,Colby Walker, Jim Walker, DanWarner, Monty Younglund and ZaneYounglund.

The fair is open to all northeastWeld County 4-H and FFA mem-bers, past and present communitymembers, and by special invitation.

The grand entry was organized byMonty Younglund with Cyle Lambertand Carol Lambert serving as an-nouncers throughout the two-dayevent. Janet Lowe took care of en-tries and served as timer. KenHolzworth and Cyle Lambert pro-vided the sound system with Pauland Marianne Kaiser in charge ofthe concessions and the NewRaymer FFA selling snocones, pop,and water. Show superintendentswere Bryan Funk, Ken Holzworth,and Monty Younglund; and arenasuperintendents were MontyYounglund and Skip Johnson. KarenKimmel organized the premiummoney and ribbons.

The fair was dedicated to fourindividuals who contributed much tothe fair and rodeo for many, manyyears: Jewell Artzer, Vera Walker,Dale Schmeeckle, and Betty Kugler.Jewell was a long-time supporter ofthe many projects and activities ofthis community and especially of theNortheast Weld County Fair.

Jewell was a member of the PrairieLions Club where she continued hersupport of young people in the com-munity.

The late Walker was a strong sup-porter of the fair and of her children,grandchildren and great-grandchil-dren as they showed their animalsand participated in the rodeo. Veraand her late husband Ben Walkerwere icons in this community anddevoted much time and support tothe Northeast Weld County Fair. Verarecently passed at the age of 99.

Two additional community mem-bers were lost this past year also.Dale Schmeeckle and Betty Kuglercontributed to the success of this fairand to other community projects andactivities. Their contributions werevery much appreciated.

The 61st edition of the NortheastWeld County Fair was dedicated tothe memory of these four individuals.

Royalty attending the fair and ro-deo included the 2010 Weld CountyFair Queen, Deeona Johnston; WeldCounty Fair Princess, MeganThormodsgard; and Julia Cucarola,2010 Miss Rodeo Logan County.

A fajita feed prepared by Steveand Charlotte Norgren and the fairdance at the community center con-cluded the 61st annual event. Thesecond annual Cowboy Church washeld at the fairgrounds on Sundaymorning with Jim Yahn of Iliff deliver-ing the message.

Special thanks was given to sev-eral memorials who contributed tothe Northeast Weld County Fair: LarryHillman Memorial for two tent shades;Jesse Samber Memorial for exten-sive electrical upgrades in the live-stock barn and for camper hookupsplus free sno cones on Friday; KaseyJo Warner/Jesse Samber Memori-als for sponsorship of the Tiny TotPig Showmanship; Mary Ann CarlsonMemorial for the donation of seventables to the 4-H building; and VeraWalker Memorial for donations withthe use yet to be determined.
