3 tips for top gun action shots!

    Super Tip!As a rule ofthumb,when

you 're shootinghandheld you wanuse a shut ter speeequivalent to at leathe effective focallength of your lensavoid camera shakFor example, with a200mm lens you'dneed a minimumspeed of 1/200 sebut if the lens ismounted on acrop-sensor camethen you need tomultip ly this by 1.6to give you an EFL320mm, and thus speed of 1/320 secHowever, while thisis usually enough tcounteract camerashake, fast-movingsubjects such asplanes may still looblurred, so you' ll hato increase yourshutter speed furthstill , to around1/1000sec.

How to capture great images of planes, both in the sky and on the ground

    1. Action on the groundTake-offs and landings offer plenty ofshooting opportunities. Plane's wheelscan look good when they hi t the runway, accompanied by a cloud of smoke.

    2. Display shotsAt key moments in an aerial display, besure to zoom out so there's enough spaceat the corners and edges of the frame forthe planes to fi t into.

    3. Fast-moving targetsJet aircraft can be hard to photograph, asthey fly by pretty quickly! Try to anticipatethe space a plane is going to move into, soyou can keep ahead of the action .
