Airshio[e’rshio] MISTAKE, HUMBLENESS

I would like to apologize to you. I put the wrong date for the Konko Missions in Hawaii community service day at Kuakini Medical Center on the last page of the May Airshio in the section of 2011 Family Sun-day Activity. I put "July 24", but I would like to correct to "July 17".

One of the readers told me this mistake. So I could recognize, correct, and apologize. Otherwise I would cause more confusion. I really thank you the reader.

I have to admit that I sometimes couldn't acknowledge someone who pointed out my mistake in the past. I couldn't say sorry even though I felt I should say so for my fault. My good heart said to me, "You should say sorry." At the same time the other one insisted, "Don't apologize!" I had two hearts. I can realize that my other half tried to find the reason to avoid saying sorry and tried to blame someone else even though it was my mistake like misplaced anger. I need to chal-lenge myself to take the negative heart within me because I know it is not Kami's heart within me.

I think the other half is my ego and conceit. I don't want to lose and I want to believe I am wiser, smarter, better, or more experienced. I want to say "I am right, you are wrong!". I completely forget that "I am allowed to do so because of Kami-sama." As long as I can keep, "I am allowed to do this because of Kami-sama," I can stay away being arro-gant.

When I take a look at the life of Konkokyo's Founder, Ikigami Konko Daijin, he apologized to Kami-sama while bedridden with an illness when he was a farmer. That experience turned to one of his biggest

turning point. While he was bedridden due to a fatal illness at age 42, he apologized to Kami-sama for his irreverence and shortcom-ing committed unknowingly since he was or-dinary farmer. He did his best to follow the local religious rules in his era more than any-body else in his village. The people believed that they shouldn't admit their mistake to a deity when they were sick. They needed to say, "I am right. Kami-sama, you are wrong." and needed to win the wrangle. They thought they would die if they lost the argu-ment with the deity. Ikigami Konko Daijin apologized to Kami-sama instead of following the common rules of that era.

He was very humble and trusted in Kami-sama so that he could express his apology while his father in law argued with Kami-

sama. He also apologized for his father in law. As a result he was able to recover from his illness and gained the trust of Kami-sama. He was able to start a new relationship with Kami-sama because of his humbleness.

If I didn't want to acknowledge my mistake, it would cause a regretful situation. Through sincere apology we will be able to minimize a problem when we make a mistake. It is an opportunity to gain trust from not only peo-ple but also from Kami-sama.

P.S.

TEACHING FROM KONKOKYO KYOTEN

4

TEACHING OF REV. MASAYUKI KODAMA

I want to become rich in one year rather than two, three, or five

years because I like the easy way. Just like the saying "easy

come easy go." This teaching tells us what we think may be the

easy way is actually going to be harder in the long run.

Kami-sama recognizes our effort because Kami-sama is our Prin-

ciple Parent. Kami-sama supports us as the Parent. We need to

do our best for our wish and then Kami-sama can take care of

things beyond our human power; Kami-sama and we could work

together. Our wish should be accepted by Kami-sama in order to

work smoothly together. We as a child of Kami-sama can gain

trust from Kami-sama through our atitiude. That's how we can

grow the small amount for the future.

We want immediate benefits, however; it is not a guarantee for

an anxiety free life. Kami-sama's trust guarantees our future

prosperity.

I THINK...

"Don't think of becoming rich in one year. Become pros-

perous over two, three, or five years. The future is long.

The small amounts you save will grow. But the money

you gain in one stroke will soon disappear," imparted

Konko‑ Sama.

[Konkokyo Kyoten Gorikai I Teachings of Konko Daijin, Ichimura, Mitsugoro 3

# 12 page 58, Konkokyo Honbu 1987]

I do not know what the other religions or teachings call or mean

by their religious way of life. But in our teaching, our religious way

of life (Shinjin) means a life if creating Ikigami (man with sincerity),

of creating good health, and of creating wealth. If we say we can

not be, follow, or live a religious way of life, or that we can not un-

derstand our religious way of life, we are saying that we cannot

create Ikigami, good health, and wealth.

Page 5: Airshio[e’rshio]konkomissionshawaii.org/Airshio_June2011.pdf · on the last page of the May Airshio in the section of 2011 Family Sun-day Activity. I put "July 24", but I would

On the other hand, if we look at what is man's work, we find

good health, and wealth. Therefore, man's work and our reli-

gious way of life is the same thing.

In this respect, if we do not want to be religious it means that

we do not wish to work. Conversely, if we work we must be reli-

gious. The important thing is to believe and his religious way of

life of creating Ikigami, good health, and wealth with sincerity.

There is another important point. That is this relisious way of life

and work are all done as an "Orei" (in gratitude) to Kami-sama

and to help Kami-sama in Kami-sama's work.

Translated by Mr. Norman Kobayashi

On April 9, 1972

Just by being able to help at home, to help a friend, and to help

at church enable one's sincerity to grow. Even if we do not re-

ceive any money nor receive any praise for helping, merely help-

ing others makes our sincerity grow in stature.

Whether other people help or don't help, when you notice

something that should be done, you should do it in order to fur-

ther the growth of our own sincerity. Kami-sama likes those who

help others.

We should pray for the others so that they too will help at

home, help or feel dissatisfied because others do not help.

Translated by Mr. Norman Kobayashi

On April 23, 1972

Reverend

Masayuki Kodama

(1903-1973)
