The Institute of Flight System Dynamics at the Technische Universität München has five major research areas:

•Flight Control and Flight Guidance•Modeling, Simulation and Parameter Esti-

mation•Sensors, Navigation and Data Fusion•Trajectory Optimization•Avionics and safety critical systems

The Institute does not only focus on funda-mental research but aims at increasing the technological readiness level to prove that its research results offer benefits for real-life products.

The preferred partners of the Institute are small and medium sized companies focus-ing on UAS/RPAS, General Aviation Air-craft or subsystems and components in the GNC domain. In collaboration with these partners, novel approaches and algorithms are developed and implemented in demon-strators and products to provide unique sell-ing points.

The main focus of the Institute is to account for the special characteristics of the mar-kets mentioned above in terms of company size, cost structure, weight, volume and energy limitations; besides cost-effective

solutions tailored to the market (instead of being transferred from large and military aviation) and lean development processes for safety-critical systems in small teams are required.

During AIRTEC 2013, the Institute of Flight System Dynamics and its industry partners will present themselves in a common booth. There, a collection of the joint projects is presented within a Hardware-in-the-loop simulation. A special flight control com-puter, actuation test benches and a voice driven path generation for autopilots are presented as part of this simulation. Further-more the booth presents a selection of the unmanned platforms, which are used by the institute and its partners.

ViscoTec moves, meters, handles viscose, structurally sensitive, solid containing fluids volumetrically. We focus on the develop-ment and manufacturing of solutions for repeatable, precise conveying, dosing, fill-ing or emptying of highly filled and highly viscose media. ViscoTec covers the entire range from emptying to dosing, including material treatment. All systems can easily be combined and integrated in automated production lines. Particularly in industrial applications with highly complex require-ments and sensitive systems, the prerequi-site for smooth and reliable production is to ensure optimal adaptation, durability and competent service.

Other ViscoTec’ fields of expertise are sys-tems for conveying, dosing and applica-tion of shims and sealants (pic. 1). These key processes in Aerospace contain auto-mated mixing and dosing of 2 component shim or sealing materials to fill them in car-tridges for manual application as well as automated processing units that apply the material directly on the aircraft structure. The best results in terms of quality and cost for using variable mixing ratios can be achieved with dosing systems that provide high accuracy in the component quantities to be applied, without cost intensive control mechanisms, combined with time and cost saving software based configuration. The endless piston principle used by ViscoTec has proved to be a very effective technol-ogy for flexible and precise adjustment of

two component mixing ratios within a dos-ing cycle (pic. 2).

The dispensing technology of ViscoTec based on the eccentric screw pump technol-ogy offers the ability for a wide range of materials in all industrial areas: Shims, en-capsulates and sealants, solder pastes and fluxes, thermally conductive pastes, fats, paints, RTV silicones, all kind of adhesives, gel coats, offset paints and more. Our area of expertise is to dose highly filled and high viscous media, that may

contain solids, as dot or bead application. This is independent of the viscosity, propor-tional to the dispensing velocity, in a very precisely reproducible manner. Solutions are available in a wide range of dispens-ing quantities (from µl up to l/min.)

The application engineers from ViscoTec Pumpen- u. Dosiertechnik GmbH would be glad to provide you with assistance and ad-vice on all matters concerning dosing and preparation of all kind of materials.

In a digital world, mechanical components such as bellows are still a major mecha-nism used to gather information. The move-ment of Servometer® metal bellows under hydraulic or pneumatic pressure (internal and external), can create the information needed for a system. By sealing a specific volume of fluid within a Servometer elec-trodeposited nickel bellows, the volumetric thermal expansion characteristic of the fluid is transformed into a precise, measurable, linear movement.

Using bellows technology; gauge, baro-metric and differential pressure as well as temperature can all be compensated. Ser-vometer electrodeposited miniature bellows significantly increase the life of miniature pressure switches, and have been used to increase the accuracy inside capacitive and potentiometric pressure sensors to in-crease linearity.

Servometer bellows and bellows assem-blies are designed, manufactured and as-sembled to the customer’s exacting specifi-cations.

about ServometerSince 1957, Servometer has pioneered the manufacture of electrodeposited miniature metal bellows, bellows assemblies, contact

springs, flexible shaft couplings and struc-turally rigid electroforms. Servometer minia-ture bellows are used in a variety of criti-cal applications where high reliability and long-term use are required. Servometer has supported customers with quality products and technical service for over 50 years. Their unique, patented electrodeposition process has led Servometer to become the leading supplier of miniature metal bellows manufactured by this method. In 2007, Servometer acquired BellowsTech, Inc. of Ormond Beach, Florida, creating Bellow-sTech, LLC, a premier manufacturer of metal edge welded bellows and assemblies, en-compassing a wide array of alloys and di-mensional configurations. The flexibility of material and size of metal welded bellows, as well as application expertise, have led BellowsTech into a diversity of industries in-cluding aerospace, medical, test, semicon-ductor, solar, and oil and gas.

Rood-Microtec is a member of the LED Light-for-you Network and of AMA, the network for Sensors.

Our innovative vigour is manifested in the expansion of our product portfolio to in-clude laser-melted precision-engineered components. In this technique, the work-piece is built up layer by layer, as the mate-rial in powdered form is melted by means of laser radiation.

The advantages of metal laser melting are obvious: the option for producing complex geometries, the handling of difficult-to-ma-chine materials, the creation of components within a minimized timeframe with low ma-terial wastage. Therefore we both work en-ergy-efficient and sparingly use resources. For the aviation sector, we manufacture housing sections and complex, thin-walled structures for gas turbines in the preproduc-tion stage.

e.sigMA

e.sigma is leading manufacturer of inter-active simulation and training systems de-signed for sophisticated training solutions. With over 30 years of experience the com-pany is specialized in developing, manu-facturing, implementing and integrating training solutions in the field of military and security applications.

As part of its activities in the field of com-plex training systems, e.sigma developed ePilot – an UAV integration into controlled airspace – catering for civil and military aviation.

The increasing role of UAS in civil and military aviation drives scientific and com-mercial interests to extend the advantages of flying them in non-segregated airspace. Since UAS offers special features, which are unique in comparison to manned air-craft, the benefit for integration of UAS into civil airspace increases significantly. The routine, efficient and safe integration re-quires a predictable set of highly automat-ed capabilities of UAS, the most notable is performing many of the major tasks without continuous human control and supervision.

At the AIRTEC e.sigma presents the Voice Processing System (VPS). A multi-purpose voice driven interface API which handles voice interactions robustly at rough con-ditions. In its displayed configuration it controls ATC requests as CPDLC (Control-ler-pilot data link communications) input

commands and allows steering live plane as well as various planes in simulation. Additionally it offers a configurable text-to-speech interface for handling manda-tory read backs automatically from ATC requests. VPS is available in 16 different languages and offers a wide range of fea-tures to control any application by voice.
