OF A HOPE
Thi s issue of the TIGER is respectfully and affectionately
dedicated to the Teachers of Ninth Avenue School. Without their
energetic efforts and guidance many of our hopes and dreams would
have never become realities. Always alert to any problem con¬
fronting students and their welfare, our teachers not only ex¬
emplify the highest efficiency in their chosen field, but they
have always exhibited genuine warmth and humane concern to
each student of Ninth Avenue School. These pleasant memories
we shall cherish forever.
To you, Df >ar Teachers, in sincere appreciation and deep

Extracurricular activities round out the education given us at
Ninth Avenue. These activities afford opportunities for initative,
self-expression, and leadership. We students learn to work co¬
operatively and to assume responsibility thus preparing us for
our after school life.
Through the student activity program, the school hopes to
train us teenagers to discriminate in our choice of recreation so
that in later life we will select social activities in keeping with
our principles. These school sponsored functions are not only
a wholesome use of leisure time, but the enjoyment that accompa¬
nies them will always remain treasured memories ol our school
life at Ninth Avenue.

Each year we call upon our advertisers to help us make THE
TIGER possible, and each year we find them ready to help us.
To these b enefactors we are deeply greatful and hope they will
continue their loyalty and support.
Our patrons and boosters also come forward yearly and help
us considerably. They, too, deserve our appreciation.
Curry’s Studio, and our local photographers, always cooper¬
ative and helpful, ease the production of THE TIGER since no
matter when, where, or how, if a picture is needed they are there
ready to oblige. Many thanks to our photographers.

State Street, Chicago — with G. E. Outdoor Lighting Systems
Derives Many Benefits as “World’s Brightest Street” at Night
The world’s brightest street at night is Chicago’s State Street ... lighted with fluores¬
cent luminaires designed and produced at the “Outdoor Lighting Center of the World,"
General Electric’s headquarters for its outdoor lighting business located at Henderson¬
ville, North Carolina.
The illustration above shows the shopping district of State Street. Here, close to
399 top-quality General Electric Form 606 luminaries, mounted on specially designed
“tree like’’ poles provide 14 footcandles of illumination!, a truly outstanding installation.
Cities throughout America, including small and larger communities in Western North
Carolina, are today “lighting up.’’ This offers many benefits to all citizens. Lighting
is credited with lowering crime and highway deaths of all sorts ... with improving safety,
and even business.
GENERAL ELECTRIC is looking
for people who are truly prepared for
the wide variety of assignments avail-
in the electrical industry. If you
would like to explore the possi¬
bility of a career with General
Electric, contact J. W. Waters, OX
2-1431.
Good lighting is an attribute of progressive communities.
You, as tomorrow’s citizens, will want to make sure
that good lighting makes your streets and highways —
your ballparks and stadiums useful at night ... safe and
enjoyable for all.
