Good day to all Nobles and Ladies from the members of

the Legion of Honor. At the end of 2012, we said “thank

you” to our Commander Noble Ace McGuire and

We welcomed back Noble Terry Dean to the unit and he

received a warm welcome.

We are now embarked on the new year with our parade

in the world and so is our flag collection.

We do very good work in our philanthropy and the

people appreciate it very much. Notice the cheers we

receive on our parades and that’s very encouraging.

Next month we host the International Legion of Honour

at the PNSA. It will be a time to renew old acquaintances

and make new friends so we hope to see our members

attending this event and partake in the parade.

To all, have a good summer and see you on parade

TIN LIZZIES Hello Nobles,

Welcome to parade season 2013. We already have two

successful parades under our belts and are looking

forward to the rest of the year.

Thank you for supporting our last meat sale. If you

missed out we will be having another just in time for

your summer barbecues in July. The order by date will

be July 9th, with the delivery date being July 16th.

We would like to congratulate Potentate Gord on his

ceremonial. If any nobles would like to come to one of

our meetings, or take a Tin for a spin, we meet the third

Tuesday of the month (except for July and August) in the

Temple starting at 7:30pm.

I hope you have all registered for PNSA at the end of

July. I’m looking forward to seeing you in Lethbridge; the

place to be seen in 2013!

See you on the parade route,

Rob Sceviour

Commander 2013

ORIENTAL BAND Band members have had a busy start to 2013 with

involvement in many activities. We have been fortunate

to recruit two new members and it goes without saying

their Ladies too. I would like to take another

opportunity to welcome Noble Jim Dawson and Lady

Angel, along with Noble Wayne Barney and Lady Laurel,

welcome to the Oriental Band. We still meet for practice

(believe it or not) on the 1st , 2nd and 4th Thursday of the

month and the interested or just plain curious are more

than welcome to come and join in, no previous musical

experience is required, just a wish to laugh and enjoy

the company of others.

Another happy event was the marriage of Noble Guy

Cochrane to Lady Lynn on May 19th, I guess that is why

he missed the Parade on the 20th, congratulations to you

both and best wishes from all Band members for a long

and happy life together.

The Spring Ceremonial was engagingly different in its

new venue of the Fez Dome, the Band attended and

played to its usual high standard with a little help from

two young friends. We were fortunate to be able to

present to the Potentate at the banquette a cheque

from our fund raising events for $69,000 as a donation

to the Hospitals, The Transportation Fund and the Shrine

Centre. I would like to extend a big thank you to all who

contributed their time and energy in achieving this

figure.

We are into Parade season and work has been

progressing on upgrading and ensuring we improve the

safety features of the trailer. We have installed an

exhaust vent to take the truck fumes to the back of the

trailer; we have also installed new tires. New signage is

in the works and along with a lick of paint here and ------

-------------------------------------

there we should look really sharp on parade.

The next couple of months look busy with parades every

other week. High River was our first and the weather

this year was better with no snow to contend with. We

will next be at Black Diamond, then Okotoks, Canmore,

and Bowness. This should be a good preparation for

PNSA in Lethbridge starting on the 24th of July. I hope all

of you that can, will attend. A big thank you is due to Art

Laing our Musical Director for bringing the truck and

trailer to the parades in Guy’s absence, and also to Dick

Luton for stepping in as the parade driver.

GREETERS Our big event is our Summer BBQ on July 17, 2013 on the lower patio at the Al Azhar Shrine Centre in the sunlight overlooking the lake and the fountain. Why don't you all come and join us. Dress casual or western. Everyone is welcome. RSVP to Gordon Berard - 403-620-8030 [email protected]. Looks like we will be assisting the Potentate to transport the Imperial Potentate and delegation from the Calgary Airport to Lethbridge for the PNSA. If you are free, do come and help us on July 24, 2013. Call Rich Odland - 403-255-0310 or email at [email protected]. For your information the Greeters Unit is a long-standing group (max 25 members). We enjoy a cross-section of many who also belong to other units. There always has been many past potentates and divan members. In times past we did more official "Greeting", now we function to assist the Potentate and host very good and unique social functions. Come on July 17, 2013 and meet this friendly group. Rich Odland, President Greeters Unit

RED DEER The Red Deer Tin Lizzie unit has been very busy participating in local events. Below are some pictures of

their move-out to Caroline, Mirror and Rocky parades.

Nobles of the Tin’s; Thx to all who made their way to the Rocky Rodeo last Saturday, a great parade and a great

gathering at Noble & Lady Mel & Shirley Tessmer’s digs after. Thx Lady Shirley for your kind hospitality and ,of

course, the awesome potato salad! Thx to Lady Merrill Kean for handling the fotos, ‘twas a great time; kids loved us

and this is, indeed, Shrinedom at its finest!

WILD ROSE For the Wild Rose Shrine Club the first half of this year is truly coming up roses, as the saying goes. Our executive is

doing an outstanding job: organized a profitable casino, spring breakfast, a busy parade season and more social

events as summer arrives. The spring breakfast was well attended as Noble Peter Proudlock rounded up his cooks

and served all who did come: families and Divan members. Thank you again vice president Peter. The High River

parade was the first of the parades scheduled for the summer. Having Past Potentate Larry McCook back to

transport and maintain the wee buses and we are pleased to report the first parade went without a hitch - both

buses performed beyond expectations. Our treasurer and driver recruiter Dale Hackinen has enlisted drivers for all

the scheduled parades over the summer - thank you Noble Dale. As to parades, we welcome Nobles and families to

attend our July 1st Airdrie Parade. Airdrie is now home to fifty thousand residents and our parade is now one of the

biggest in Alberta. Look forward to the other units that will be here.

Another rosey story - we welcome new members joining our unit, Nobles Matt Tuggle and Gary Long brother of

Allan Long. Happy to have both Nobles aboard.

Our President Ken Campbell is challenging our Nobility to take the trophy away as we enter the third annual Larry

Gauthier Golf Tournament being held in July. All nobles are welcome to join fun and fellowship. Each year we are

seeing more ladies taking part so …look out Noble Ken.

We are having a tremendous year within the Wild Rose as we work for our children so they can overcome

disabilities and hardships, always our goal, and we have fun along the way. However we have also been deeply

saddened as our Lady June Buchanan passed away in the later part of April.

June was the wife of Noble Dick Buchanan a past president of our club and a builder within our unit and our Airdrie

community. The name Lady June is most appropriate as June was truly a lady, wonderful wife, mother,

grandmother and friend to all especially those in need or in difficulty, rather it be family or friend. We the nobility of

the Wild Rose Shrine Club extend our sincere sympathies to Noble Dick and family. As a footnote, Dick underwent

major heart surgery recently and I am pleased to report he is home and doing well, and receiving great support and

assistance as he so rightfully deserved.

Have a great summer, see you on parade.

Your scribe

Noble Norm Brain

MOUNTED PATROL

The Mounted Patrol has been very busy in preparation for their participation in this year’s Calgary

Stampede Parade on July 5. The Mounted Patrol is anticipating up to 20 riders in this year’s parade.

Noble Jim Cascadden of the Mounted Patrol has arranged for a team of horses and a wagon to transport

the Divan members and others in this year’s parade. Many thanks from the Divan for this initiative!

The Mounted Patrol hosted another very successful “Father’s Day Family Picnic” at the Mounted Patrol

grounds on June 16th. The weather was great and everyone had a wonderful time eating steaks and

visiting.
