ALABAMA STATE UNIVERSITY MISSION STATEMENT Alabama State University is a regional comprehensive, historically black, state-supported University. In carrying out its mission, the University serves the city of Montgomery, the state, the nation and the global community. Its major commitments are quality programs of undergraduate and graduate instruction, residential life, continuing education, public service and research provided at the most reasonable cost to individual students and taxpayers.

The University will continue to strengthen its academic programs in education, business and the liberal arts while giving even greater emphasis to the science programs at the graduate and undergraduate levels. The science emphasis is in recognition of the gross under-representation of minority profes-sionals in this broad and important fi eld throughout the nation. The University will also expand further its public service programs through strengthening programs of service of local and state political leaders and providing them with research-based guidance on policy and program approaches and initiatives for addressing community problems.

The University aims to develop and pursue these programs in a manner to ensure that eligible students who desire to develop and expand their scholastic skills for personal, occupational or professional growth have the opportunity to do so, regardless of socioeconomic status. Respect for the intellectual potential and dignity of students, as individual human beings, without regard to age, sex, race, color, cultural background, national origin or disability, shall be paramount.

He also holds the M.A. (1976) in Religion and Counseling from Andrews University, Berrien Springs, Mich., and a Bachelor of Theology (1974) from Caribbean Union College (now University of the Southern Caribbean), Trinidad.

Before moving to East Carolina University as Professor and Chair of the Department of Sociology (2009-11), Dr. Wilson spent nearly 20 years at Wayne State University, ascending in the ranks from Assistant Professor to Professor, and ultimately as Department Chair for seven years. He came to Alabama State University as Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, and in January of 2013, assumed responsibilities as Interim Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs. ATHLETIC ADMINISTRATION

MELVIN HINESDIRECTOR OF ATHLETICSAUBURN, 1997

Melvin Hines is entering his sixth year as the Director of Athletics at Alabama State University.

Before being names Director of Athletics in Sept. 2015, Hines served as Interim Director of Athletics for three years. He also served as Senior Associate Athletic Director from 2010-2012 at Alabama State.

While at Alabama State, Hines has helped guide the University’s athletics program through their most successful seasons to date, highlighted by four straight Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Commissioner’s Cup awards in 2013-14, 2014-15, 2015-16 and 2016-17. ASU swept all the league’s all-sports awards in 2014, and the women’s programs combined to win its fi fth straight all-sports award in 2017. Alabama State sports teams combined to win 10 SWAC divisional, league, or tournament crowns this past season and have won 47 titles since 2010.

Hines began his tenure with Alabama State University in August of 2010 when he was hired as senior associate director of Intercollegiate Athlet-ics. In that position, Hines provided senior level management and leader-ship for directing event operations, facilities and administrative services, as well as providing team/sport oversight, budgeting and personnel management. He was one of the leaders of the strategic and operational planning team for the University, and assisted with public relations and development activities. In addition to providing direct oversight for 18 sports, Hines served as the Athletics Department liaison for the improve-ments and construction with of multiple athletics facilities, including the New Hornet Stadium (ASU Football Stadium), the Houston Markham Jr. Football Complex, the Wheeler-Watkins Baseball Complex and the Barbara Williams Softball Complex.

During the 2016-17 academic year, Hines oversaw the improvement of the Academic Progress rate (APR). For the fi rst time in recent history, all of the athletic programs at Alabama State fi nished above the threshold needed to avoid penalty, while a pair of programs (women’s cross country and women’s golf) tallied perfect scores. For women’s golf, it marked the second consecutive year of reaching that mark. Also during Hines’ tenure, Alabama State has continued to raise the bar as volleyball, women’s basketball, men’s and women’s tennis, men’s and women’s golf, softball

and baseball have reached the NCAA Division I Tournaments. In addition, the softball team won its fi rst ever postseason tournament game in 2017, defeating UT-Martin, 3-0, at the National Invitational Softball Champion-ship (NISC). Also in 2015, the women’s track and fi eld team competed at the NCAA Division I Nationals and just this past season, the men’s 4x100 relay team and a long jumper qualifi ed for the NCAA Division I Nationals.

Since Hines took over the leadership of the athletic department, he has continued build and enhance the branding of the athletic department through social media (facebook, Instagram and twitter) as well as partnering with Sidearm Sports to provide an easy-access website for alums, fans, parents and student-athletes to follow all the latest news. In addition to the improvements of the branding, Hines was instrumental in building the platform for Alabama State to stream all home football games.

A former wide receiver at Auburn University, Hines began his coaching career in 1997 as a graduate assistant at the University of Louisville. The Huntsville, Ala. native returned home in 1998 to serve as receivers coach at Alabama A&M, a position he held for next four years. He moved to administration to develop and implement the CHAMPS (Challenging Athletes’ Minds for Academic Success)/Life Skills Program, working with student-athletes in career and personal development, as well as in com-mitment to academics and service. Also, Hines served as Judicial Affairs Offi cer for the Bulldogs (2003-04).

Hines gained additional experience at Troy University as the Director of Student-Athlete Services (2005-06) before moving to the University of Minnesota and serving as liaison to various on-campus departments, while focusing on the developing and implementing of a comprehensive advising program for student-athletes. From 2008 to 2010, Hines was the associate director of Student-Athlete Academic Support Services at the University of Mississippi, where he assisted with the oversight, coordina-tion and daily operations of the Department for Rebel Athletics.

Hines holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Adult Education from Auburn University and a Master of Science in Education with a concentration in Sports Administration from the University of Louisville. Among his professional affi liations, he is a member of the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA), National Association of Athletic Development Directors (NAADD), Minority Opportunity Athletic Association (MOAA) and the National Association of Academic Advisors for Athletics (N4A).

Hines, a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc., is married to Landy, and the couple has three children, sons DeAndre (25) and Tyler (21), and daughter Madison (13).

COACHING STAFF

JODIE SMITHHEAD COACH • 11th SEASONLSU, 1985

Jodie Smith will be entering his 11th season on the sidelines in the fall of 2017 and has positioned the Lady Hornets soccer program as one of the top teams in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Smith’s success on the fi eld at ASU is evident as he had produced 27 All-Conference players, four SWAC Offensive Players of the Year, two SWAC Freshmen of the Year and one SWAC Defensive Player of the Year. In addition, he has produced two SWAC All-Tournament team selections and a SWAC All-Tournament MVP. Equally as impressive is the success of his players off the fi eld in the classroom. Among the players under his tutelage were 2014 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Senior CLASS Award Na-tional Finalist Kylee Hathaway and 2013 CoSIDA/GTE Academic All-District Selection and National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Scholar All-Region India Pleasant. In the past seven seasons, Alabama State has placed 30 players on the SWAC All-Academic Teams and earned the NSCAA Team Academic Award in each of those seven seasons. In the 2016 season, Smith led Alabama State to a historic season as the Lady Hornets went 11-10-1 overall and 7-2-1 in SWAC play. ASU defeated Jackson State and Texas Southern in the SWAC Tournament before edging Arkansas-Pine Bluff to win the school’s fi rst-ever SWAC Tournament title. With the SWAC championship, Alabama State earned the automatic qualifi er for the NCAA Division I Women’s Soccer Tournament as the Lady Hornets fell in the opening round to top-ranked South Carolina, 7-0. During the 2015 season, Smith guided the Lady Hornets to the SWAC Championship match for the second time in three seasons and won his 50th career match at ASU with a 3-0 SWAC semifi nal victory against Prai-rie View A&M on Nov. 6, 2015 in Huntsville, Ala.. The team earned two selections on the All-SWAC teams as sisters Arie-la Lewis (First Team) and Aaliyah Lewis (Second Team) were each given the recognition. The two players were among the top point getters in the conference, combining for 23 goals and 16 assists. Prior to this time period, the Lady Hornets had not had a winning season in program history. In the 2014 season, Smith guided the team to another double-digit win total, the fi rst time in program history it has posted back-to-back seasons of double-digit wins.

For a second straight season, the team was able to string together an unbeaten streak of at least seven games to mark the program’s second-longest winning streak. The run propelled them into the SWAC Tournament Semifi nals. Once again, the team was led offensively by Aaliyah Lewis, who followed up her stellar freshman season by again leading the SWAC in both goals (17) and points (45) on her way to being named the SWAC and College Sports Madness Offensive Player of the Year. It marked only the second time the conference has had a player receive the award in consecutive seasons. The Lady Hornets had four All-SWAC honorees in all with Lewis and Shelbi Vienna-Hallam being named First Team while Iita Pienimaki and Alexandria Cannon were named to the Second Team. The 2013 season saw the Hornets rewrite the record books en route to the program’s fi rst SWAC Eastern Division Championship, a record 14 wins, an undefeated SWAC record and program-best 11-game winning streak. Among the team season records set were goals (58), goals per game (2.76), points (152), points per game (7.24) and assists (38). Smith’s squad featured six All-SWAC performers along with the College Sports Madness SWAC and SWAC Offensive Player of the Year Aaliyah Lewis, the College Sports Madness SWAC and SWAC Defensive Player of the Year Kylee Ha-thaway and the College Sports Madness SWAC and SWAC Freshmen of the Year Ariela Lewis. Aaliyah Lewis was also named as a Top 100 freshman by TopDrawerSoccer. In 2012, the building of the program had its breakout year. ASU won a then team record eight wins highlighted by out of conference wins over Tennessee-Chattanooga of the Southern Conference and Lipscomb Univer-sity of the Atlantic Sun Conference. The two victories were the among the highest profi le wins for the SWAC. That 2012 team was led by Alexandria Cannon, named the College Sports Madness SWAC Player of the Year and First Team All-SWAC and Anastasia McCleary, who was named the SWAC Freshmen of the Year. A total of six players earned All-SWAC recognition. Among the highlights of Smith’s years at the helm of the ASU program was notching his 100th career win, a 1-0 road victory over SWAC in-state rival Alabama A&M on Oct. 5, 2012. Entering his 22nd season on the sidelines as a head coach with a ca-reer record of 160-183-12 (61-123-5 at ASU), Smith has had success with stops at Georgia State University and Mercer University. His 1997 squad

SIERRA JOSEPHASSISTANT COACH • 3rd SEASONARIZONA STATE, 2012

Chelsey Scott returns to her alma mater for her fi rst season as an assistant coach for the Lady Hornets in the 2017-18 academic year. Scott returns to Alabama State after one year of coaching at Charles Henderson High School, where she doubled as a Science teacher. During her time at Charles Henderson, Scott taught 9th grade biology and honors biology; while also teaching 11th grade physical science and coaching volleyball. Scott, an Enterprise (Ala.) native, has served as a counselor/instructor for the “Play Like Winners” Volleyball Club in Montgomery (Ala.). While there, she made sure all the paperwork was completed in a timely manner, and that the equipment was readily available. She also helped in day-to-day coaching in practice to ready themselves for competition. While attending Alabama State as a student-athlete, Scott helped the Lady Hornets to a pair of Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) championships. She was a two-time SWAC All-Conference selection on the Second Team, and was a Four-Time Player of the Week. Scott earned All-Tournament Team honors, and was a member of the 800-kill club. She also served as a mentor for ASU Aspire during her time on campus, and volunteered at the Food Bank and Habitat for Humanity. Scott received her Bachelor’s degree from Alabama State University in 2016. She currently resides in Montgomery.

For 78 minutes, the Alabama State women’s soccer season offered a glimpse into how they’ve improved over the past season since last facing Georgia State nearly a year to the day.

It hustled for more 50/50 balls, connected stronger passes in the midfi eld, and spoiled plenty of GSU chances as the Lady Hornets went toe-to-toe with a Pan-thers team that fi nished 11-6-4 last season and knocked off two higher playoff seeds in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament.

After a one-hour lightning delay , Alabama State and Georgia State played to a 0-0 tie deep into the second half before the Lady Panthers broke through to carry out a 3-0 win in each team’s season opener Friday night in Panthersville.

The outcome was decided in the 79th minute when Caitlin Ray found space down the far sideline and centered a pass to Alexis Thomas for the winning goal.

Three minutes later, Callie O’Connor took a shot from deep outside the box that found the upper left corner of the net.

Brooke Shank scored the fi nal goal off the feed from Ray in the 86th minute.

Zaria Maynard got the start in goal and stayed solid for most of the night, rushing out of net on occasion to stop the push and stretched to make four saves.

The Alabama State women’s soccer team fell into an early defi cit and could not recover as it lost 4-1 to Austin Peay in the Lady Hornets’ season home opener at the ASU Soccer Complex.

The Lady Govs (2-0) received goals from four different players as Gina Fabbro, Kirsten Robertson, Jennifer Smith and Nicole Wojcik all found the back of the net.

ASU (0-2) had trouble in keeping a consistent pass going through the midfi eld as the team combined for four shots with three on goal.

Austin Peay took 12 shots on goal.

Smith added that he’ll look to use practice this week to work on the importance of valuing possession and decision making.

After trailing 2-0, the Lady Hornets were able to cut the lead in half on a fortunate circumstance in which the ball was defl ected in front of Austin Peay’s goal by a Lady Gov defender and into the net for an own goal.

Aaliyah Lewis tried to strike early with two shots on target in the opening 5:12 of the match, but both shot attempts were corralled by Austin Peay goalkeeper Lindsey Todd.

The Lady Hornets had a couple other opportunities to score, but both were thwarted.

Alabama St. 1 0 1 Troy 2 2 4

In a similar script to last season’s match with in-state opponent Troy, the Lady Hornets got off to just the type of start that they had been seeking at their opponents from the Sun Belt Conference.

Another early lead was taken.

The energy was in Alabama State’s favor.

And, just like that, a spurt from Troy put them up by a 2-1 halftime edge as ASU eventually fell 4-1 at the Troy Soccer Complex.

The Lady Hornets (0-3) knew the task that was ahead of them as the Trojans have displayed dominance at home over the past three plus seasons with a record of 21-1-1 on their home fi eld.

But it was Alabama State, who displayed the aggressive play early, as it started quickly for the Lady Hornets.

Ariela Lewis scored on a beautiful run through the middle past both center back defenders on a feed from Inma Martinez to give ASU the lead in the fi fth minute.

Maddie Brune and Emily Sterns struck back with goals for the Trojans (4-1) be-tween the 16th and 18th minutes as Troy took a 2-1 lead with 26:38 remaining in the fi rst half.

Joelle d’Entremont scored twice while Cami Jackson and Kirsten Reed each scored as the Alabama State women’s soccer team was defeated 4-1 by host Jacksonville at Southern Oak Stadium. The Lady Hornets’ Ariela Lewis roofed it into the top of the goal on an assist from Aaliyah Lewis in the 86th minute to get ASU (0-4) on the board.

It was her second goal of the season and 30th of her career.

She now needs just one more assist to the join the exclusive 30-20 club among active players in NCAA Division I women’s soccer, who have recorded at least 30 goals and 20 assists in their careers.

Aa. Lewis and two others are the only active players in the club.

The Dolphins (2-3) outshot the Lady Hornets 21-13 for the game including 15-5 for shots on goal.

During the fi rst half, ASU was able to keep it close in terms of shot opportunities with JU holding a slim 10-9 shots advantage and an 8-4 edge in shots on goal.

Alabama State’s other best chances to score came when Ar. Lewis fi red a shot off the left side of the post.

The Alabama State women’s soccer team gave themselves the best chance they’ve had all season, leading by a two-goal margin heading into the second half at North Florida.

With the offense clicking and the energy on the upswing, it appeared that the Lady Hornets were well on their way to victory.

A season-high four-goal outburst wasn’t enough though as Alabama State squan-dered a 3-1 halftime advantage with Katy Mixon scoring the winner in the 71st minute as host North Florida beat out Alabama State in a wild, barnburner 5-4 at Hodges Stadium.

A back-and-forth tempo characterized game fl ow with three ties and ASU clinging to a 4-3 lead into the 62nd minute.

North Florida held a 10-7 advantage for shots on goal including 22-12 for shots in the game.

The Ospreys struck fi rst on a goal by Alexis Bredeau in the eighth minute.

It would the fi rst of three on the day for her.

The Lady Hornets had an answer, however, as Ariela Lewis scored on a breakaway created by a slip pass from her sister Aaliyah Lewis in the 26th minute.

In the end, it wasn’t the exact result that the Alabama State women’s soccer team wanted, but they fought and sweated for it in a toe-to-toe tussle with one of the hottest teams in the Atlantic Sun Conference.

As the physicality of the match wore on, Lipscomb was able to take advantage of a foul called inside the box as junior midfi elder Natalie Duboise made good on a penalty kick in the 84th minute to lift the Bison to a 1-0 win against ASU at the ASU Soccer Complex.

ASU was able to draw even with shots on goals with each team garnering four apiece.

Ariela Lewis fi red a team-best four shots with one on target while Larissa White, Aaliyah Lewis and Lexi Krieger all had one shot on goal.

On the defensive side, the Lady Hornets showed marked improvement from their prior match with notably gritty defense against Bison top scorer Olivia Doak, who entered with a team-high six goals on the season.

Sophomore goalkeeper Gianna Guyot played a solid match for ASU with three saves.

Three players scored multiple goals, two others added a goal apiece and a few milestones were reached as the Alabama State women’s soccer team ran past Faulkner at the ASU Soccer Complex.

Aaliyah Lewis, Ariela Lewis and Lexi Krieger all scored twice while Inma Martinez and Britanee Harris also found the back of the net as the Lady Hornets controlled possession from wire to wire in a complete team effort to pick up their fi rst win of the season.

Ar. Lewis also added an assist to become the fourth active player in Division I women’s soccer to accumulate at least 30 goals and 20 assists in their playing careers.

Adding to the milestones on the night, ASU head soccer coach Jodie Smith earned his 150th career collegiate victory and Harris scored her fi rst career goal.

Fellow freshman Lauren Camp also saw her fi rst regular season action and picked up her fi rst career save.

ASU struck early and often as it took the lead in the fourth minute on Ar. Lewis’ goal that came off a rebound and into the right corner of the net.

The Lady Hornets put up four more goals in the opening half.

The second goal of the night came on a cross from Ar. Lewis to her sister Aa. Lewis.

Samuelle Grove scored one of her two goals on the day in the fi fth minute to give Gardner Webb a lead that it would not relinquish as the Alabama State women’s soccer team fell 5-1 in a fi rst ever meeting between the teams at the ASU Soccer Complex.

The Lady Hornets (1-7) got on the board when junior forward Lexi Krieger notched her third goal of the season in the 82nd minute.

Krieger scored within a minute of checking back into the game after departing the match in the 66th minute for a rest.

She dribbled around the defense and found the right corner of the net to cut the defi cit to 3-1.

But, the Runnin’ Bulldogs (3-5-2) had a quick answer as Grove scored her second of the day from some nice passing by Eline Glamsland and Stina Kleppe.

Jessica Ferguson added another goal in the 85th minute.

Shyann Cordova and Inma Martinez each recorded one shot on goal for ASU, but the team found themselves on their heels for much of the match as it was outshot 17-3 in the category.

Sophomore goalkeeper Gianna Guyot started and made a season-high 12 saves for the Lady Hornets.

The Alabama State women’s soccer team got off to just the conference start they had been seeking — a SWAC road victory to open conference play by defeating Prairie View A&M 2-1 at Hohlt Park.

Twin sisters Ariela Lewis and Aaliyah Lewis each scored, one in each half, in-cluding what proved to be the winning goal in the 45th minute by Aa. Lewis in a match that the Lady Hornets were able to dictate control and maintain possession through a lion’s share of the opening 60 minutes.

Ar. Lewis assisted on the second goal, her second helper in the prior three matches.

It gives her a team-leading 14 points on the season.

Prairie View A&M (0-8 overall, 0-1 SWAC) put more pressure on in the later stages of the match, cutting the defi cit in half on a penalty kick by Blair Lane after a hand ball was called by the referees.

Alabama State (2-7 overall, 1-0 SWAC) extended their winning streak in head-to-head meetings with the Lady Panthers to three straight dating back to last season’s 3-2 home win on Senior Day last Oct. 25.

The PK was given as a result of a hand ball as the Lady Tigers (4-5 overall, 2-0 SWAC) took advantage of the spot.

Alabama State (2-8 overall, 1-1 SWAC) was outshot 12-7 including 9-3 for shots on goal.

With the teams nearly even in all statistical categories, the shorthanded Lady Hornets dropped a tough 2-1 outcome to Howard at Sicard Hollow Park in a SWAC match.

The Lady Hornets and Lady Bison had played to a scoreless tie at halftime.

In the 58th minute, ASU senior forward Aaliyah Lewis broke through fi rst, scoring on a shot into the right corner of the net after she was given a pretty touch pass from Inma Martinez, who was set up from Lexi Krieger’s cross on the near side of the fi eld.

But, Howard had a quick answer.

Jasmin Miller picked up the equalizer in the 62nd minute when ASU goalkeeper Gianna Guyot rushed up out of goal. Miller was able to beat her to the spot and found the left corner of the net for her fi rst goal of the season.

Inma Martinez put ASU on the board in the sixth minute off a long free kick from approximately 35 yards away and later ASU added a goal in the 32nd minute off a defl ected shot from Ariela Lewis that was put in by her sister Aaliyah Lewis.

In the 77th minute, Karissa Fenwick scored the lone goal for Arkansas-Pine Bluff (3-6-1 overall, 3-1-1 SWAC) to cut the defi cit to 2-1.

For all the offense that the Alabama State and Jackson State women’s soccer teams produced in their wins on Friday, it came to a screeching half in Sunday’s anticipated conference clash between the two as the Lady Hornets and Lady Tigers played to a 0-0 tie at the JSU Soccer Complex.

It came two days after ASU had put up six goals in their win at Southern and a three-goal effort from Jackson in their win against Alabama A&M.

Defense was front and center as both teams stymied each other’s chances throughout the match.

Jackson State held a 14-6 shots advantage including 7-3 for shots on goal, but the combination of the Lady Hornets’ back defensive line and the goalkeeping of sophomore Gianna Guyot held them off the board.

Guyot made a crucial save on a penalty kick attempt with approximately 10 min-utes remaining in regulation to help the Lady Hornets force overtime.

Alabama State (5-9-1 overall, 4-2-1 SWAC) had chances, but the best looks came from Ariela Lewis, who took three shots on goal.

ASU came out fast and ready to play as Ariela Lewis scored in the opening minute on a pretty cross from Aaliyah Lewis.

The Lady Hornets added a second goal in the 28th minute when Larissa White shot from straightaway and found the left corner of the net to make it a 2-0 advantage heading into halftime.

The Lady Hornets’ back defensive line was relatively steady throughout the night in countering the speed of Devilettes’ top scorer Laadi Issaka while sophomore Gianna Guyot made seven saves in net.

MVSU did get one back when junior Danielle Allen burst through to score in the opening minute of the second half to cut the lead to 2-1.

The Alabama State women’s soccer team dug deep and rallied back for a 2-1 vic-tory against Texas Southern in a SWAC semifi nal at Prairie View A&M’s new soccer facility to advance to their third SWAC championship appearance in the past four seasons.

Trailing 1-0, Alabama State showed a never-say-die attitude as it knotted the score at 1-1 when defender Mercedes Padilla scored on an assist from Ariela Lew-is in the 73rd minute.

Ar. Lewis was involved in the winning score as well as she assisted on the Laris-sa’s White deciding goal in the 80th minute.

That set the stage for one of the biggest goals of the season and of White’s career.

ASU goalkeeper Gianna Guyot (10-6-1) made fi ve saves and lowered her goals against average to 1.64.

ASU has now reached the championship in 2016, 2015 and 2013.

Ark.-Pine Bluff 0 1 1 Alabama St. 1 1 2

The third time was the charm for the Alabama State women’s soccer team. Ariela Lewis scored twice including the game-winner as the Lady Hornets defeated Arkansas-Pine Bluff 2-1 to claim the school’s fi rst SWAC soccer championship. ASU (11-9-1) had positioned themselves into the title match in three of the four previous seasons (2013 and 2015), but 2016 proved to be their year. The Lady Hornets caught fi re in the second half of the season and ran their un-beaten streak to 10 consecutive matches (9-0-1) dating back to Oct. 7.

COLUMBIA, SOUTH CAROLINA | NCAA TOURNAMENT

2211.11

Alabama St. 0 0 0 S. Carolina 6 1 7

It should be a season that the Alabama State women’s soccer team will remember for the rest of their lives.

After winning its’ fi rst ever SWAC soccer championship in school history, the Lady Hornets took in all that surrounded them by playing in its’ fi rst NCAA Tournament.

They’ll remember the sights of playing in Eugene E. Stone III Stadium, the excite-ment of the NCAA watch party selection party in fi nding out who they’d play next, the extra media attention with cameras and tape recorders all around and the feeling of playing as one of the 64 best teams in the nation.

Their historic season ended in a 7-0 defeat in the NCAA First Round match against No. 1 seed South Carolina (19-1-1), who entered the postseason ranked as the No. 2 team overall in the nation.

South Carolina looked the part as it took an early lead when Gamecocks’ junior striker and top scorer Savannah McCaskill put them on the board fi rst in the eighth minute and also tallied three assists.

Chelsea Drennan also added one goal and three assists as well to pace SC.

Aa. Lewis fi nishes her career as the school’s all-time leading scorer with 57 goals and 33 assists.
