Alam Steel Ltd. is a regional leader in the steel distribution and processing industry maintaining strong relationships with many of the largest contracting and engineering firms in the region. The company has established itself as a key supplier that can deliver high quality products at competitive prices, on time. Alam Steel was founded in Dubai, UAE in 1979 and its headquarters are in the Jebel Ali Free Zone.

Alam Steel stocks and distributes steel, cement, and timber to major construction, engineering, and fabrication firms in the region. The Company maintains substantial inventory of material in its logistics facilities around the region. Alam uses its extensive supplier network to procure quality products from around the world. Investments in warehousing and transport have created a streamlined supply chain allowing Alam Steel to meet clients’ needs for material to be delivered on a Just-In-Time basis. Over the last 30 years Alam has been a vital player in the construction and engineering sector in the Middle East. Profile of Alam Steel Group Alam Steel Industries: Alam entered into rebar processing in 2007. Alam Steel Industries (ASI) processes reinforcement bars in a 20,000 square meter facility located in the Dubai Investment Park. The machinery and technology for the plant has been imported from a leading German supplier. Alam Steel Industries is one of the largest factories of its kind with an annual capacity of almost 360,000 tons. ASI became the first rebar processing factory in the Middle East to be awarded the prestigious UK based CARES certification in October 2007. Macsteel Gulf FZCO: The group has also entered into a 50-50 JV with Macsteel to set up a steel service centre that will process plate and sections for the Petrochemical, Mining & Earthmoving, Shipbuilding, Construction, Manufacturing, and Fabrication industries. The factory will be based in the Jebel Ali Free Zone and is expected to begin operations by 2012. Although prevalent across Europe and the USA, this specialized manufacturing will be the first of its kind in the Middle East. Mr. SHYAM BHATIA

Mr. Shyam Bhatia is the Founder and Chairman of Alam Steel Group, having 40 years of experience in steel industry. He is a keen sportsman, spent major part of his life playing and promoting cricket at various levels. He has published a book on one-day cricket titled Portraits of the Game and its sequel Portraits of the Game-II, which is very popular among cricket lovers. He has also established a charity Shyam Bhatia Cricket for Care distributing cricket-kits to underprivileged children worldwide. Affiliations: India Club, Dubai, Cricket club of India, Bombay.

Since joining the group in 2002, he has been led the firm’s evolvement from rebar trading to a diversified steel distribution and processing group with a regional presence. He was instrumental in

diversifying their distribution product base and their move into rebar processing as well as Alam Steel’s JV with Macsteel to set-up steel service centers processing flat and long products. He has also been the driver of the group’s expansion into the MENA region and its strategic initiates in South East Asia. Alam Steel has grown into one of the largest diversified steel processing and distribution firms in the Middle-East selling 700,000 tones per annum. Mr. Bhatia previously worked as an Investment Banker at the Carson Group in New York. Mr. Bhatia received a BS in Finance and Economics from Babson College, Boston, USA where he graduated Magna Cum Laude and was honored with the college’s Elite Student Athlete distinction and was a finalist in the prestigious J.H.
