I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and a restful festive season. I certainly did, it was great spending time with family and friends. Our focus this year is Reflections and you will learn more about this at the shared learning evening details below. Welcome to our five new staff for 2018 Alayne Miller, Paul Rose, Jessica Jost, and Caroline Harris. We have a number of New Students and Families that I would like to acknowledge and welcome – the Stones family, Valbuena family, Lemos family, Chu family, Casim family, Brannam-Gates family, Loh family, Santhara family, Boreham family, Robin family, Soldevilla family, Recordon family, Sequera family, Benson family, Vu family and Wright family. Welcome! Birthdays – No Edible Treats are to be brought to school With regards to various allergies that our students have, our School has decided that no edible treats are to be brought into school. This is a health and safety issue. Birthdays will still be acknowledged, in classrooms in a variety of special ways. Astronaut Mike Hopkins is giving a presentation – 9am to 10am Saturday 7 th April at North Harbour Netball Centre, Takapuna. Mr John Porteous has invited our school to attend this presentation by astronaut Mike Hopkins. Nasa is supporting his trip here and have requested to have him talk to groups about NASA while he is here. Please ask your children if they would like to attend so that I can let John know how many students will be interested. Building Community Picnic and Shared Learning Evening on Thursday 8 February 2018 We will have a picnic together 5pm to 5.55pm (the PTA will be selling sausages at $3 each). Then at 6pm and 6:30pm there will be two identical sessions where teachers will share information that is specific for their Year groups. E.g. Learning expectation, learning targets, timetables, homework, new initiatives, and professional developments for teachers. Children can attend the sessions with you or they may continue playing (we will have teachers supervising). The meetings rooms are as follows: Room 2 for Students in Rooms 1 & 2; Room 4 for Students in Room 3 & 4; Room 5 for Students in Rooms 5 & 6; Room 7 for Students in Rooms 7 & 10; Room 8 for Students in Room 8 & 9. “Jesus You show me that all things are connected. Dear St Michael’s School Community,

Happy New Year! I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and a restful festive season. I certainly did, it was great spending time with family and friends. Our focus this year is Reflections and you will learn more about this at the shared learning evening details below. Welcome to our five new staff for 2018 – Alayne Miller, Paul Rose, Jessica Jost, and Caroline Harris.

EX-SMCS GIRLS STARTING AT BARADENE

CONGRATULATIONS A big Congratulations to Yuri Lee (Rm 3) who competed in 7 tournaments of the USKG summer golf tour - five 1st places' and two 2nd places', placing tie 1st place with overall season points! Well done to Yuri!

PTA NEWS SURVEY Complete the PTA survey by the 3rd February to go in the draw to win 4 Event Cinema vouchers for your family. If you did not see the email on Tuesday regarding the survey please visit: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/FVF28JH This is your opportunity to offer ideas and recommendations to the PTA for the year ahead and your opportunity to pick the events you may like to help with.

BACK TO SCHOOL PICNIC AND TEACHER INFORMATION SESSIONS Please join the PTA and staff for a fun and informative afternoon on Thursday 8th February from 4.30pm to 7.30pm. The teaching staff will be holding information sessions throughout the afternoon to inform parents about the year ahead. Children will be entertained throughout the school yards with fun games and activities. Drinks, ice blocks, sausage sizzle and fresh rolls will be available for sale. ICE BLOCKS During the hotter months, the PTA will be selling ice blocks on a Friday afternoon when school finishes at 2.55pm. Commencing from Friday 2nd February come and visit the school hall to purchase an ice block for $2.00 to cool off before heading home.

PIZZA SALES Please note Pizza sales will commence next Friday the 9th February during the lunch break.

“Take them a meal” SCHOOL COMMUNITY INITIATIVE At the moment we have a number of families at St Michael’s going through difficult times with health issues. To support these families our wonderful school community uses an initiative called ‘Take them a Meal’ – this is an online roster system where our beautiful school community is provided the opportunity to care for those in our community by providing a meal or school baking item to be delivered to reception at school.
