    The SB-REM can be deployed:

in a distributed mode when equipped with a controller board: NRCD-A (DC controller board) NRCD-B (DC controller board)

NRCA-A (AC controller board) in stand-alone mode when equipped with a Network Termination (NT) board: NRNT-A

Distributed Mode - Position in the Network

    The SB-REM:

is a downstream interface multiplexer which is slaved to a host DSLAM is a compact system intended for installation in remote cabinets and business

equipment rooms where space is limited or access interface needs are limited

must be limited to installation in locations where access is restricted tomaintenance personnel only

can be co-located with the host DSLAM or installed remotely.

Figure 1-1 shows how the SB-REM (in distributed mode) is incorporated in theISAM architecture.

Note 1 The 7356 ISAM FTTB SB-REM is referred to as SB-REMin the remainder of this manual.

Note 2 The SB-REM physically supports any of the LT boards andsplitter boards supported in the 7330 ISAM FTTN Flexible Density(FD) equipment practice (limitations come from power supply andsoftware support). Therefore, it is also known as the FD-REM.

interface for 3rd party equipment management.

The Ethernet port can handle low speed 10/100Mbps and high speed 1Gbps. Thetraffic is forwarded on a dedicated management VLAN, to be configured by theoperator in the network.

The NRNT-A requires one physical shelf slot position, and does allow for theinsertion of a second LT board. This NT board can be used for LT boards requiringa 1Gbps and/or a 2.5Gbps uplink via de backplane to the NRNT-A.

Scenarios for upgrading to 2.5Gbps mode on the distributed SB-REM

A 1Gbps/2.5Gbps auto-negotiation protocol is implemented for the optical linkbetween each LT board in the SB-REM and its host NT board. This is implementedby running ability checks for both speeds between the LT board in the SB-REM andthe NT board in the host DSLAM.

    The following applies:

When the host DSLAM is equipped with a NANT-A NT board, this will alwaysresult in a REM link that operates in 1Gbps mode (independent of the used LTboard or controller board).

When the host DSLAM is equipped with a NANT-D NT board or a NANT-Eboard without 2.5G license, this will always result in a REM link that operates in1Gbps mode (independent of the used LT board or controller board).

When the host DSLAM is equipped with a NANT-D NT board or a NANT-Eboard with 2.5G license, this will result in a REM link that operates in 2.5Gbpsmode only when the following conditions are met:

A 2.5Gbps-capable LT board is used on this REM link A 2.5Gbps-capable NTIO board is used in the host DSLAM A 2.5Gbps-capable controller board (NRCD-B) is used 2.5Gbps-capable SFP devices are used at the host side and the remote side. A 2.5Gbps license is in use. After installation of all of the above HW components for a 2.5Gbps communication

path between the host shelf NT/NTIO and the SB-REM, the LT board in theSB-REM must be reset by the operator. This can be done by the command:

    admin equipment slot // reboot

    without-selftestExample:

    # admin equipment slot lt:2/1/1 reboot without-selftest

    admin>equipment>slot>lt:2/1/1$

10/01/01 02:56:40 major alarm occurred for lt slot 2/1/1 (service affecting): Boardreset or communication failure

    admin>equipment>slot>lt:2/1/1$

This means that before upgrading to a 2.5Gbps communication on the SB-REM, oneshould carefully check the consistency of the whole communication path:

Table 1-4 Consistency check of the communication path

    Manual Link Speed Configuration

CLI commands can be used to overrule the auto-negotiation protocol as follows:

    Configuring a SB-REM link for 2.5Gbps operation:

    leg:isadmin># configure port lt:2/1/1 ethernet speed 2500

leg:isadmin># configure port lt:2/1/1 ethernet no autonegotiate

    leg:isadmin># admin save

    Configuring a SB-REM link for 1Gbps operation:

    leg:isadmin># configure port lt:2/1/1 ethernet speed 1000

leg:isadmin># configure port lt:2/1/1 ethernet no autonegotiate

    leg:isadmin># admin save

Caution 1 The following important restrictions apply:

Before introducing a NANT-D NT board or a NANT-E board, every

high-capacity VDSL LT board in the SB-REM that is intended to beused in 2.5Gbps mode must always be used together with a 2.5GbpsSFP device and with the NRCD-B controller board.

If this rule cannot be verified during installation, then it is stronglyadvised to manually configure this link in 1Gbps mode (see ManualLink Speed Configuration).

Caution 2 When the rule mentioned above is not followed, thiscan lead to service interrupt and service quality problems, whichcannot be automatically detected by the ISAM in this release.

    Step Check

1 Is the NT board capable of 2.5Gbps communication on the SB-REM ports?

2 Is the NTIO board capable of 2.5Gbps communication on the SB-REM ports?

3 Is the SFP on the SB-REM port of the NT board or NTIO board capable of 2.5Gbps operation?

4 Is the remote LT board, plugged into the SB-REM slot, capable of 2.5Gbps operation?

5 Is the 2.5 Gbps capability license switch set?

The commands above can be used also for troubleshooting:

If the connection between the ISAM host shelf and one or more SB-REMs is lostwhen enabling the 2.5Gbps communication mode and after resetting the SB-REMLT board, the link speed auto-negotiation mechanism can be overruled manually

by means of a direct link speed setting command for a 1Gbps link If the connection between the ISAM host shelf and one or more SB-REMs doesnot upgrade automatically when enabling the 2.5Gbps communication mode andafter resetting the SB-REM LT board, the link speed auto-negotiation mechanismcan be overruled manually by means of a direct link speed setting command fora 2.5Gbps link

Scenario for upgrading to 2.5Gbps mode on the stand-alone SB-REM

The standalone SB-REM can operate in 2.5Gbps mode:

Two uplinks of the NRNT-A can operate in 2.5Gbps mode. This must beconfigured by the operator (as the default operating mode is 1Gbps)

Two host (highcap) LTs can operate in 2.5Gbps mode, if the License Key isenabled. The LT will auto-negotiate with the NRNT-A to operate in 2.5Gbps.

At the network side, the two links must be configured at 2.5Gbps, so these links canbe connected to the standalone SB-REM.

On the standalone SB-REM, NRNT-A, the following must be done:

Install the 2.5Gbps SFPs in the NRNT-A. Configure the operating mode of SFP-1 and SFP-2 to 2.5Gbps:

    configure interface shub port nt:sfp:1 mode 2.5gbps port-typenetwork admin-status auto-up

    configure interface shub port nt:sfp:2 mode 2.5gbps port-typenetwork admin-status auto-up

The 2.5Gbps license key must be enabled to operate the host LTs in 2.5Gbps:configure system max-lt-link-speed link-speed twodotfive-gb

The stand-alone SB-REM must now be reset, so the auto-negotiation process cantake place (this happens during the LT initialisation):

    admin equipment reboot-isam without-self-test

Note In case the link speed is changed with a CLI command, thelink between the ISAM host shelf and the SB-REM will go down.

It will cause the LT boards to auto-reset and to re-initialize with thenew link speed.

To minimize this outage period, it is advised to perform a manualreset of the remote LT board in the SB-REM, just prior to the linkspeed change on the ISAM host shelf.

Note(1) A number of MAC addresses are always used by the system for internal purposes.(2) L3 forwarding is not supported. Only some limited static L3/L4 forwarding is supported to the

extend that this is needed to support the voice LT boards.(3) The same resource is shared for L2 filters and L3 filters. So, the maximum cannot be obtained for

both at the same time.(4) 6 ports are capable of delivering SyncE output. However, in actual deployments it will be less,

since some of these ports will be used for SyncE input. These ports can then not deliver SyncEoutput.
