Yet again I have reflected on how lucky our children are with the range of activities on offer at Aldermaston. Last Friday’s Summer event was greatly enjoyed by all who attended. It was lovely to have so many people there supporting us and raising money for the school. Thank you to all who came, and to our PTA, staff and volunteers for organising the food and entertainment. Great to see our Judo club showing their skills too – well done all! Sunday, Team Year One (Katherine, Nevaeh, Orla, Finley, Tim and younger siblings) completed the Race For Life and raised nearly £600 (so far!) for Cancer Research UK. Our amazing six year olds romped round the course in 27 degree heat and completed 5km (that’s half a million centimetres! ) in just over 70 minutes. Congratulations! Tuesday saw some children from Year 5 and Year 6 represent the school at a cricket tournament. We were thrilled that they came 2nd but especially pleased to hear of their fair play, impeccable conduct and great team work. To quote Mrs Redding, “Some awesome cricket was played in good spirit.” Thank you to Mrs Timperley for helping. Wednesday Years 1, 3 and 4 enjoyed a trip to Studland to support their learning with History, Geography and Science about coasts and the seaside.

Summer Term No. 11 5th July 2018

Dear Parents, Pupils and Friends of the School, Another busy week, jam packed with activities!

Also on Wednesday, as part of their transition Year 6 visited the Willink School for a sports event. Today as part of Design and Technology learning, all of our children have been to visit the Rosebourne Garden centre development. The Site manager, Ian Johnson, talked us through how building sites work and buildings are constructed. We hope to have inspired architects and construction workers of the future! Mr Johnson then returned later in the day to talk to the children in assembly and present us with some animal boxes and shelters for our environmental area.

Tomorrow we finish the week with our Sports Day. We have been watching the forecast closely and are mindful of advice we have been given from West Berkshire; we have made some amendments to the schedule to ensure that children and supporters are not in the sun and heat for too long.

A reminder that the children come to school in their PE Kit wearing a t-shirt in the colour of their House group.

Make sure all are wearing sun cream and a hat and have a water bottle. We will aim to start as soon as possible in the morning—9.30 ish. We will shorten the number of events—no tug of war or parents race, for example this year I am

afraid! We will have Open Classrooms straight after the Sports instead of after the picnic, for your child to

show you their new classroom.

Parents are then welcome to stay for lunch; the hall, decking and gazebos are available for areas of shade. You are welcome to bring your own sun tents.

Rehearsals are sounding great for our KS2 production of “Grub”. We would really love to be able to film the event, are there any parents that could help with this please? Finally we are pleased to announce that a new Rector has been appointed to the Aldermaston Parish, Revd. Jane will take up her position in September. We look forward to working closely with her as a school. Yours sincerely

Alison Burridge Acting Headteacher
