Message from the Principal—
As Term 1 rounds up, I reflect about how
blessed I feel to be a part of this school and
the community. Thanks to the warmth of our
staff, students and their families, my sons have
seled in and con.nuously express how much
they are loving being rainforest kids.
One of the term’s highlights for me was our
Kindness Day where we took ac.on against
bullying. Students par.cipated in building a
bank of strategies to combat bullying, kind-
ness ac.vi.es to build well-being and
strengthen friendships and team building chal-
lenges. Thank you to the parents who were
able to make it down and par.cipate in the
event. As a part of the day, students, staff and
parents pledged their hands to our kindness
wall and our
School Cap-
tains ran an
ac.vity in
which every-
one received
a bag of kind-
ness filled
with kind
words from their peers.
Regards, Emma Taylor

News from The K-2 Class
The little people in K-2 are working enthusiastically towards the end of term. P-2 students are finalising their English assessment that involves writing about and presenting their favourite traditional story to the class. Prep students have delved into writing sentences expressing their preferences and personal opinions on a story using their new found knowledge of simple sentence structure and letter/sound knowledge. They love having the opportunity to share and read their sentences to the class. Year 1 and 2 students have been busy writing their story as a retell using correct story sequence, identifying key events and using their knowledge of interesting sentence beginnings, using interesting and descriptive words as well as their knowledge of familiar sound and letter patterns, punctuation and grammar.
In Mathematics, students have been learning about money with Preps and Year 1 identifying, describing and order-ing coins and Year 2 learning how to add up a small value of coins up to $1. They have also been practicing number facts involving addition and subtraction through games, chanting, writing, songs and hands on activities.
Kindy students have enjoyed participating in real-life activities through play, reading stories and responding to them through craft and other mediums. The Kindy students love being involved in their own ‘Kindy’ experiences as well as joining in with the whole class for such things as reading, well-being activities and other appropriate activities. Phew! It has been a busy, yet learning and fun-filled term!
Thank you to all the students for being Super Star Learners. Thank you also to families for the many ways that you support the little people in their learning - from healthy lunches to good sleeps and encouragement. Kind regards Miss White

3-6 Class Taholoo the butterfly
Long ago, there was a boring brown butterfly. That butterfly was lonely, yet very brave. She was lonely because she wasn’t like the other butter-flies. The butterflies were black, but they had a few dollops of red on their wings, whereas she was just plain brown. She decided she was sick of being lonely so she flew to a different planet, and that was the wonderful planet of Earth. She flew from her planet Dollop to Earth and she landed in Cow-Bay, Queensland, Australia. The beautiful Blue Hole was this magnificent place’s name.
But what Taholoo didn’t know was, when she came to this mysterious planet, the dark, spooky, treacherous spirit of colour was roaming the Daintree. As soon as Taholoo settled down within the canopy, the dark spirit came to where she was resting, taking all the colours from the trees, leaves, and flowers leaving them as brown as Taholoo. When Taholoo arose once more she felt like she was lying in a pit of mud. “I have to do something,” she gently yelped to herself.
Taholoo flew around the Daintree desperately trying to find this beast. She knew that he could not do anything to her because, she was brown, and that’s the colour he had changed the Daintree too. She flew till she found him. She looked for days.
He tried, and tried to defeat her with his evil magic, trying to take her colour, but it didn’t work. When Taholoo had finished him, he fell to the ground and as his spiritual body started to touch the ground he disintegrated, and the colour of the Daintree returned.
The gods were extremely happy with Taholoo. They were so happy that they started to cry down on Earth, filling the beautiful Blue Hole with their tears. They magically dragged Taholoo into the blue hole and when she came out, she was the beautiful Ulysses butterfly. By Chloe Wenden

Welcome to Week 9
We can’t believe that the term is nearly

The class are currently finishing off assess-
ments in English, Maths, Science and
Ci#zenship and Civics, ready to start new
topics next term.
Included in this newsle er is an English
assessment by Chloe Wenden telling the
story of the crea#on of the Ulysses bu er-
fly and the Blue Hole. Other crea#on
stories wri en are ‘How rainbow lorikeets
got their colour’ and ‘How the Great
Barrier Reef was formed’, and many other
good tales. I have really enjoyed reading
these stories and we look forward to
sharing them with the K-2 class.
Don’t forget that next Thursday is School
Sports’ Day. It is a great idea to get organ-
