    The graduates of the Master programAlgology and Mycology will have abilities

    to analyze qualitative and quantitativecomposition of the algal flora / mycobiota of

    different habitats or regions of the countryfor fundamental and monitoringinvestigations, including their restorationand management;

    to make assessments of different types ofecosystems;

    to work easily with wide spectrum ofmodern methods used in taxonomy andecology of algae and fungi;

    to cultivate algae and fungi for differentpurposes (incl. medicine andbiotechnological products) and fortaxonomical needs as well;

    to make reconstruction of palaeo-ecological conditions of ancient basins;

    to qualify diatoms for industrial needs;

    to make biostratigraphical analysis forage determination of sediment rocks since

    Cretaceous period.

    The Master program in Algology andMycology includes the following topics:cytology, morphology, genetics, physio-logy and biochemistry, variability,taxonomy, evolution and phylogeny,distribution, ecology and importance ofalgae, fungi and lichens, and theirbiodiversity as well. The students willbecome acquainted with algae and fungias sources of medicinal substances and

    their application in modern medicineand biotechnology, with methods forcollecting and mapping, for laboratoryand industrial cultivating, withsustainable use and protection of fungaland algal resources.

    The continuation of education isthree semesters, in which the 1st and 2ndinclude lectures and practical courses,and the 3rd is aimed on writing ofmaster thesis.

    The program of education includes 7obligatory (for each module) and 2chosen disciplines, which can be chosenamong the general list of 20 courses.

    The evaluation of knowledge is based

    on European Credits Transfer System(ECTS), where the whole program bears90 credits.
